It is often hard to pick out a present for other people, and often due to social expectations, it is seen as being stingy to not give a gift. One possible solution is to give a Kiva microloan card out as a Christmas gift. What Kiva does is allow them to select someone from the developed world to give a microloan to. There is however a small chance you could lose your principle, but they have 98.98% repayment rate, so it is unlikely, and especially so if you look at the history of the local micro-lending partner and check out their repayment rate. Whatever you get someone in the developed world, they will not be very happy by it, but in the non-developed world even a $25 microloan makes a big difference in helping them obtain a livelihood. This way you can give your friends or family the money represented by the gift card eventually as the loan is eventually repaid and help someone else out in more dire need also. There are many Armenians you can choose to loan to. Mods/Admins: Maybe you can make this sticky or figure out other ways to make this far more visible on this forum?

History Course Proposal Upsets Canadian Turks

What do you expect when you allow unfettered immigration from Turkey to countries like Canada? They think they are back in their homeland... -
Here is an Islamic fundamentalist blog post: Compare this to Ataturk's eternal mission: Fundamental Islam: If someone does something un-Islamic it is up to the ummah to prevent them Turkish nationalism: Even your government may be traitors, it is up to you prevent them and save the Turkish independence Very similar. Turkish nationalism is the worst meld of Islam and the most fascist aspects of European nationalism. What is happening in Turkey is they have replaced Islam with belief in the Kemalist official ideology and Turkish nationalism. When an author like Akcam is challenging the official history he is being responded to like muslim faithful would to someone challenging Islamic dogma or fatwas: "it is the duty of other Muslims to prevent it from happening". This is why they attack intellectuals in Turkey.

Turkish Jews were compelled to speak only Turkish, not Ladino their mother tongue even as late as the 1960s. The large Israeli, German language daily, Tages Nachrichten(Tel Aviv) reported on the poor condition of Turkish Jews on April 5, 1964. Source: Ypourgeion Exoterikon(Greek Foreign Ministry), Athens to Washington and London, Dispatch No. DSK412-77, April 11, 1964. cited in: Vryonis, Speros. The Mechanism of Catastrophe: The Turkish Pogrom Of September 6-7, 1955, And The Destruction Of The Greek Community Of Istanbul. Greekworks.com (New York, 2005) pp. 563. You think a cabal of secret Jews carried out the Armenian genocide? Did the crypto Jews also decide to pass "speak Turkish, citizens" laws and then apply these laws even to their own people? I mean how stupid are some people?

History Course Proposal Upsets Canadian Turks

Raphael Isreali, who used to be a dhimmi living in Morocco has talked about restrictions to unfettered muslim immigrantion which is something I agree with. Instead of adapting to Western values, Turks in Canada are brining their national rejection of these values to Canada with them. The problem is that the Turkish government is very sucessful to hide things from the common knowledge, like: http://hyeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=17...20&start=20 Turkey has been so successful to infiltrate academia, to get its theses repeated in the Western press, most do not know this. They do not know that most Turks rejected and still reject Western values, but pretend to respect them for sake of argument. A challenge has to be presented to the Turkish endowed facilities of history and this challenge must be repeated to the press, so it can start to enter the common knowledge. -
Above gives an example of why the USA does not recognize the Armenian genocide and it has nothing to do with a Jewish cabal conspiracy that is running the world. Secretaries of State, like Kissinger lament that the American population do not think in terms of heuristic calculus of geopolitics and "world balance of power". He is sadly very wrong because they are many stupid/base Americans thinking "in terms of world balance of power".

It is a waste of time to bother with people like him. The real issue is this: The Turkish state is having positions on history and it imposing them on the Turkish populace and historians. It also imposes them abroad successfully in chairs of Ottoman and Turkish history. Someone needs to take Ottoman history Chairs at Universities in the USA for example away from the Turkish state. Some rich Armenian American, Greek American or organizations needs to get more people descended from Ottoman Christians who know modern Turkish and Ottoman Turkish into the field as Professors to challenge the Turkish hegemony.

I use Finereader 8,0 but a version that is not international, it can only OCR English. I need to get the International Version so hopefully I can OCR some Greek texts.
-
What OCR software do you use? Also since Ashotna voluntereed do not OCR it in anyone else, but you free to download it. I have plenty more books I scan from like especially The Dhimmi: Jews & Christians Under Islam because for example many Turks always repeat: "How come if we are so intolerant we did not kill all the Christians or Armenians earlier." And that book by Bat Ye'or best answers such a stupid claim using instead of conjectures the muslim tradition of jurisprudence.
-
I would rather plain text, infact I just uninstall MS Office. The article is good, but I am shocked that someone replied positively so fast. Your software should allow to output into Clipboard. I know Abby Finereader 8.0 Professional does. But my version does not support other languages really and will strip out accent marks and diacritics of which this article has many. The Greeks participating on forums that I posted similar requests to, except I scanned in from The Mechanism of Catastrophe: The Turkish Pogrom Of September 6-7, 1955, And The Destruction Of The Greek Community Of Istanbul. and none of them replied. The stupid chirping cicadas.

I have been thinking about making a site to counter the Turkish official history by bringing out some of the scholars that are not in bed with the Ankara regime. I do not want a popular site but rather a site where people do something besides useless banter, like post excerpts from historical works or scan them in. Something like a website to brige the gap between the general public and historical works that can be considered dangerous to the lies of Turkish official history. Below is : Astourian, Stephan H. 1999. "Modern Turkish Identity and the Armenian Genocide:From Prejudice to Racist Nationalism" From the book Remembrance and Denial: The Case of the Armenian Genocide http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php?file=92bb6176 File: 23-49AstourianTurkishIdentity.zip Size: 2.77 MB I scanned it into GIF images. I want to see if some Armenian will meet me halfway by OCRing it in. I would do it myself but A.) it takes additional time compared to the long time I took to scan it in, B.) like I said I want to find people who will do more than engage in useless chatter, like take time to OCR something in. If someone does OCR it in, do not bother if your software cannot handle foreign characters(like mine) because there are lots of Turkish words. Also do not discard the page numbers, so the resulting text is easy to cite. If you do OCR it in or are willing to help me by OCRing such works then PM me. I am getting on inter-library loan: Vryonis The Turkish State and History: Clio Meets the Grey Wolf Heyd Foundations of Turkish Nationalism: The Life and Teachings of Ziya Gokalp I am just one man, I cannot scan and OCR so much.

I do not see why you classify or say Zurcher, is on the "Turks side". He is an Ottoman/Turkish historian but I do not think he is like that, if he was like that he would never praise Akcam or recognize the Armenian genocide. Turkey is a state that has positions especially on important "national issues", that it imposes on its subjects. I was looking at a library at Kinross's biography on Ataturk and read the Intro where he thanked prominent Turkish politicans for access to certain archives, and he contacted many Nationalist Movement leaders which he thanked in the very Intro. I was thinking to loan it out to scan that in, but I did not. Zurcher in Turkey : a modern history(1994 edition) on the otherhand thanked mostly non-Turks for this work. Alot of historians are very willing to assist the Turkish state in being voices to repeat "resmi tarih" abroad, I doubt Zurcher is one of those voices.

The fanatic Sunni Muslim nation known as Turks have done it again. At least the following print newspapers in their online edition or news portals have full articles urging Turks to intervene in this online web poll: http://www.turkiyegazetesi.com.tr/haberdet...?haberid=350336 http://www.hurriyetusa.com/haber/haber_detay.asp?id=13284 http://www.turkei.net/news_detail.php?id=27914 http://www.dunyabulteni.net/news_detail.php?id=25603 http://www.karapapak.net/turkce/haberler.aspx?id=458 http://www9.gazetevatan.com/haberdetay.asp...p;Categoryid=30 http://www.gelecekonline.com/haber/haber/1...imi-anketi.html http://www.8sutun.com/node/42648 http://haber10.com/haber/96238/ http://www.sonhaber.com/tr/haber_detay.asp?haber_id=14287 Probably the best search terms for Google are: ermenihttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21253084/ (It works, for some reason I had to remove the space.) Instructions for Google to search only .tr domain for sites that contain the link to that poll: http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&...-8&oe=utf-8 Less successful keywords: MSNBC.com Ermeni soykırımıyla MSNBC’nin soykırım MSNBC Anketi Ermeni WOW, just wow. Such a fanatic and vigilant nationalism. They are so low to even make web polls into major news that newspapers should carry, just so they can manipulate public opinion abroad like they do with the fascist Kemalism at home(with article 301). If you sift through those results you will see the massive campaign the Turkish internet world is making over insulting their overblown Sunni muslim sense of honor. Honor is about your good and noble deeds, stupid Sunni muslims, not from being fanatic and uncouth.

Wait till the Turkish newspapers hear about this. The Turkish newspapers are so ultranationalistic and fascist they will write articles mentioning these polls and and urging to vote on the website to skew the results so that the fascist official ideology of the Turkish Republic can be reflected in the poll results. All major Turkish newspapers made a massive effort to skew the results of the TIME Man of the Century poll. They made Ataturk beat Bob Dylan for entertainer of the Century. See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/despatches/europe/18385.stm When Ocalan was arrested Time Magazine covered it and had a poll which Turkish newspapers skewed and Turkish university student wrote a script that forced the voting to close. See: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/1999/ocalan/ (For the poll, from memory I remember that I could not vote because the poll was closed because of the script) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17497711/ .. "The video prompting the ban allegedly said Ataturk and the Turkish people were homosexuals, news reports said. The CNN-Turk Web site featured a link allowing Turks to complain directly to YouTube about the "insult."" ...

I do not know much about the Arab acceptance of Armenian refugees. That is really going on a tangent from my post. Arab muslims today direct their nationalism and Islam more against Israel and Jews. If an American tourist who visited Turkey saw this conversation he would think we are all fanatics(not the Turks) because they were so nice and kind to him, blah blah. But the idiot tourist would not realize or care Turks direct their nationalism and Islam against Armenians, Greeks, Kurds and show a fake kindness to tourists. The great ambassador Morgenthau finally left Turkey because after the genocide the Turks were all so kind to him and it was so sickening and disgusting to him this kind of behavior.
-
This does not make any sense. Why would someone with such a small connection to Turkish identity and Turkey spend so much effort? Sending letters since 1980 Holocaust Memorial Council and Carter and then 20+ years later to still maintain the Tall Armenian Tale site. There is something deeper here than that article reveals. Who is his inside connection to the fascist Kemalist ideology if he does not know Turkish?

The famous American director of Greek extraction(but born in the Ottoman Empire) made a movie called America, America dealing tangetically with the Abdul Hamid massacres of 1896, The massacres and their climate prompt a Greek family to send one of their sons to Constantinople to get abroad. On the way there a muslim Turk "befriends" him and keeps robbing him. Here is some pivotal dialogue from that movie that I got from opensubtitles: You may say well that is just a movie, what is point. But the dialogue above really does describe the conditions that non-muslims face when they live amongst rotten muslim nations like the Turks. Real historical studies confirm the kind of message Elia Kazan was trying to convey. DeLaLa, You are very confused. You say that Glendale is also not an Armenian city? The USA has its faults but the American people are nothing like the fascist and Islamic Turkish nation. For an Armenian to live in the USA he does not to have to follow the official American ideology, there is none. Everyone in Turkey has to follow the official Kemalist fascist ideology OR ELSE, and this fascist ideology the fascist Turkish population loves so much is very anti-Armenian. Here is an extract from the Pact of Umar The Harut Sassounian article about Moustafian confirms this pact of Umar attitude is expected from Turks, that the Armenians are obligated to act as deserving less than true human dignity to be allowed to live. In Turkey in 2007 the Turkish people is thinking the Armenian community is their hostage and if this nation does not get their usual Islamic tributes from Washington in rejecting to recognize the Armenian genocide they will dissolve the Armenian community. So DeLaLa you may want to educate yourself. There is no future for Armenians amongst Turks. You cannot afford to be human amongst Turks or any muslimn nation, they will take advantage of you.

Political Correctness Reigns At The United Nations
Nikephoros_Phokas replied to Դրօ's topic in Genocide
Jean Jacques Rousseau extracted from the works of Abbe de St-Pierre the writings called Project for the Perpetual Peace and Polysynody each attached to a Judgement, a commentary of his own. In this works it is suggested that a Confederation of European Heads of State be established tp defend the common interest of maintaing peace to prevent war. The Indispensable Rousseau. compiled by John Hope Mason. Quartet Books (New York; 1979) pp.103-104. My feeling is the participation of warlike muslim nations like Turkey in the United Nations just corrupts the institution. The above news story is just one small example. It is such a lie that is easy to debuk. The Kemalists continued to pass laws to seize Armenian properties, they tried to destroy the newly independent Armenian Republic with miltiary campaignsm, the Angora government thought it their duty to protect members of the CUP from Armenian vengence and any prosecution, to this very day modern Turkey makes its its lies upon history to hide the truth of the Armenian genocide. Modern Turkey has total continuity for the Ottoman Empire's Armenian policies including the genocide. -

The same way that animals are ontologized: Insect, Reptile, Bird, Amphibian So too can Turks!: Fanatic but kind of honest = Karabekir dishonest, cunning, pretends to be tolerant at times that it suits him = Mustafa Kemal You run into Turks on the internet sometimes that do not deny the Armenian genocide and instead brag for it. You run into Turks on the internet that are thoroughly dishonest, in front of Americans they say what they think they want to hear, in front of Armenians they say another thing, to other Turks they say another. Anyway whichever Armenian wrote that piece was all over the place. What I would have done is take out from the library a well researched work like that of Dadrian or Akcam and used it to present in a few words some of the various compelling Turkish sources that verify the Armenian genocide. I mean you can never stop the dishonest but pretending to be tolerant ontology of Turks, but you can make things hard for them if you just know where to look. -

The Turkish kanums placed upon history are specifically crafted to sound reasonable to historical ignorants. So you cannot compete with the deluge of Turkish kanum state backed history until you actually start reading some of the serious studies on the Armenian genocide written by non-kanum backed historians. Until then any Armenian arguing with a Turk is competing in a battle of the historic ignorants which Turks will win. A Greek language Armenian magazine interviewed Dadrian once during May-July of 2002: Anyway I posted a reply without even reading the article using my growing anti-Turkish archives. After that reply I read the article and was shocked at how bad it was. If you are not interested enough to go to the local library beforehand to do some research, why bother? Back to that Dadrian interview I posted a small excerpt of; that book was first published in 1995 and the interview was conducted 2002 and in that time only some 5000 copies were sold. If it sold some 500,000 copies and much more diaspora Armenians had read it most Turks would just shut their mouths on the internet about the Armenian genocide, because they would be scared to hurt Turkey's public image by making lies that are so easy to counter with compelling evidence. from the University of Texas Libraries Homepage. When someone has such a resource so near to them there is no excuse for the Armenians posting there. You cannot just expect to counter the Turkish official history without ever accessing that library. -
Turks Have Stunt Planned For April 24th

What losers. There are so many people with history degrees out there that never get a job in the field. So they pick someone with some kind of integrity to expect to join the Kemalist state controlled circus. -

Who will inherit his property? If his property is confiscated by the Turkish state, that is about as evil it gets.

I just read an excellent study by David C. Young, The Modern Olympics a Struggle for Revival. The modern Olympic movement was destroyed almost completely by the concept of amateurism coupled with Christian bias against the flesh and athleticism. Even in the ancient Olympics athletes were professionals sponsored by rich nobles. The concept of amateurism in 19th Century Europe was a concept of gentleman's amateurs, meaning people who never worked in their life say as a mechanic or laborer, instead of denoting people who were not professional athletes, as we define an amateur today. The only way for people today to understand the snobbish 1800s concept of amateurism that no longer exists is to read about it. Men like Brookes who started the Wenlock Olympics, Coubertin, Evangelis Zappas, etc. and others were against the snobbish concept of amateurism that prevented workers from participating in sporting events along with gentlemen who were rich enough to never work, but competed athletically for money anyway in violation of modern concepts of amateurism. Mahaffy, an incompetent, snobbish Anglo-Irishmen started the modern myth of ancient Olympic amateurism. page 49 David C. Young even wrote a whole work on the false notion of amateurism called The Olympic Myth of Amateur Athletics. Unexpectedly, in H.L. Mencken's the American Language(3rd revised edition, printed 1930) there is a glimpse into the concept of English snobbish amateurism, that was not as strong as in the more egalitarian United States. Chapter IV American And English Today Section 3. Honorifics page 143 Even with our concept of amateurism, as in not a professional, I would still be against Olympic amateurism. On a global level televised around the world, competing in stadiums of thousands, is no place for my high school basketball team. It has no basis in ancient Olympic history either. The amateurs have their own smaller, local events.

So how do they learn the language? Do you know? Did Armenian speaking grandparents watch them alot or do they learn through a Church School? This lady I know was born in Italy and married another Italian here in the States and both of her kids know Italian. But even they according to her, are speaking Italian worse now than when they were younger. Same with my uncle he probably speaks worse Greek now then when he came to the United States and forgot how to read and write, because he only uses Greek to speak to his mother. Every example around me, only non-mixed couples transmit their language within the diaspora. It is exceptional for mixed diasporic families to transmit a language from what I see around me, and I cannot think of one real life example.
