lol, who said that? provide a link to the article, otherwise your point is null and void. and Domino, i am VERY critical of gay activists, and that's part of the reason why i put an end to my involvement in activism efforts in the gay community.. i admit they stretched it a bit too far, but i still support the basic idea behind equal marriage, and i'm not being "in anyone's face", just stating facts and arguing about something that courts around the country are unable to deny anymore. frankly, i don't think i care a bit about marriage.. i don't think i would get married to a man even if i had the right to.. but i want others to have the choice and equality... we don't want to be equal but separate.. we don't want to be treated differently.. we don't want to be segregated.. i am against segragation efforts from both sides, gay or straight -- i really despise the idea of the "gay school" in NY. i think it's terribly stupid... need i say more?

that's the point, civil unions are recognised by states separately, and that's one of the disadvantages to it. wrong again. marriage has existed long before christianity and definitions of heterosexuality even existed. do i really need to re-read the 40 page article i recently did a presentation on to give you examples of tribes that conducted gay marriage? the concept of marriage has been stolen by organised religions and appropriated to the set/system of beliefs of each religious organisation, but the history of marriage tells a lot about what marriage REALLY means... marriage is about commitment, not about gender. which would you prefer: a husband and wife in a hetero marriage who are totally unfaithful to one another or 2 gay men who are married and are committed to one another? No other answers - the first or the second? just as simple as that.

Domino, I am editing my posts because i have so much to say and don't want to spam the board. i did not delete anything major in there, just added a coupla arguments. so are you telling me that fighting for marriage is not worth the trouble but fighting to change the definition and features of civil union is worth going through? why change civil union if you should have the right to marriage at any rate... ? civil unions do not give couples the same benefits as married couples, and i think that's very clear in that article as well as any article about this issue that you can find anywhere, including on Google..

first off, it's not necessarily a slippery slope.. it does not follow that everyone will now follow our example and demand rights, etc. that's a very low excuse for not giving someone their rights... besides, civil unions are not the same as marriages... and if gay people want to get married for romantic reasons, so be it... why prevent them? read the article I posted above. and even if there were no difference between civil union and marriage, it's an issue of principle and being told what one cannot do in a country that claims to give its citizens basic human rights, including the right for marriage (limited to heteros).. double standards there?

why is it an invalid argument? edit: i'm assuming you support everyone's (hetero) right to get married, as long as they're not violent people, right? so why should gays be excluded? care to give a reason/explanation for it? and don't start with "marriage started with christianity and christianity does not approve of homosexuality", cos we both know that's a load of BS.

and why would a straight couple need it then? it's simply a matter of equality...

Domino, marriage is a right for ALL, whether gay or straight. everyone should have a right to get married -- the issue is whether or not there are any churches who are willing to bless gay marriage (and there are a lot of churches that do).. so if the church disapproves of the marriage between a certain man and a woman, it has the right to deny the couple the right for marriage? i don't get it...... and what about interracial marriage? i mean, i'm all for civil unions between 2 people (man and woman!) of different races, but i fail to see what marriage will bring more? what does marriage bring to straight couples anyway, and why do straight couples get married? is there some kinda benefit to it? what about atheists who get married? eh?

oh, and here i was thinking that birds of a feather flock together... which verse is that? and can you prove that the bible is more than just a human creation? i'm sorry, but i don't blindly follow something just because "OUR church says so." so heterosexuals who are infertile should not get married? or wait, is there some double standard on that one? besides, who said gay people can't have kids? science is advancing... and to say that gay people should not get married just cos they can't have babies is like saying that people who have cancer should not have normal lives and go to work or have social relations or even get married or try to get healthy or whatever.. ooops, there we go.. the standard argument haha... please.. if you can prove that there indeed WAS an Adam and Eve, i will get married to a woman lol.... tell ya what, why don't you start a chapter of the Schutzstaffel in your area against gays, cos apparently they've hurt you so much...

haha, well said... and here i was, expecting something "good" from egoyan.. what a shame... *sigh* he couldn't even make a movie that treated at least one theme decently... Ararat is NOT the movie that represents the suffering of my ancestors. it's a movie that represents nothing, actually. what was i thinking when i expected something like Schindler's List from him.. oh well. No wonder it didn't make it to more than one movie theatre here in Toronto. Enough said, I guess. I'm not usually this harsh on people, but I must say that Ararat did NOT represent what I and many Armenians hoped to see, and it definitely did not represent one cm of what those who were massacred by the Turks went through...
