Sarma is the grape leave dolma that is served as part of mezza. Also known as yalanchi. For us, dolma is made with meat, tomato sauce, rice and parsley and wrapped in cabbage (or stuffed into a bell pepper, tomato, etc). It's served hot as a main course. Mike

Welcome back, Artur! If I didn't let my wife drive...oaf, I have no time to get anything done. She does everything while I work. Mike (Pilafhead) [ October 04, 2001: Message edited by: Aghmug ]

quote:Originally posted by gamavor: You have gone too far. What if they were 5,000 innocent people belonging to the Eastern Society (I do not mean turks of course). Easterners by default are not innocent or the life in the East is so cheap that there is nothing to mourn about. No, that's not what I was implying. The Muslim extremists are against Westerners. Right now it's American targets, but in general they are against the freedoms Western Society gives its citizens. If it were Christian extremists horrifically targeting innocent Muslims with 747s I would feel the same way. A human is a human. To say you're not crying over 5,000 dead Americans because no one in America is crying over 1,500,000 dead Armenians is insensitive and ignorant. And the thousands of people killed were from all around the world and all religions. Did you see the memorial service yesterday in NY? Do you know why there were so many Muslims in the audience? Because they felt guilty? No, because they lost family members also.

No Thorny, his idiocy goes beyond that. It's more than just a tit-fot-tat issue. He fails to realize that it wasn't just 5,000 Americans, it was 5,000 innocent humans that are part of Western society. If he'd take off his near-sighted glasses, he'd realize that Montreal could easily be next.

Wh00t, You are by far the biggest idiot I have come across in this forum. If you take a step back and read the crap you've posted, maybe you would get a clue. I'm not sure how old you are, but you really need to grow up. I'm sorry people like you are part of my race.

For you youngsters that like the new System Of A Down, that section in the middle of "Science" is Arto Tuncboyaciyan. He's awesome! If you like that part of the song, look for his CDs TEARS OF DIGNITY and ONNO. They're hard to find though; I think they were only released in Greece. Btw, he's playing in Los Angeles on November 18th at the Skirball Cultural Center. Tickets aren't on sale yet. www.skirball.org

Harut, Very bad. But in respect of free speech, we'll let it stand. Just for that no dessert after dinner. Mike

Sandy, You may also have not considered the fact that many of the moderators and members are so damn depressed, scared and stressed about the whole thing that we're dealing with it with our family and friends in real-life and not on-line. My family are shocked and horrified by this. I'm a fourth generation Armenian-American and neither I nor my parents have ever seen anything like this. I'm at a loss for words. About the only thing I could do was place an incredibly large flag on our house. It symbolizes my sadness as an American and a human. Mike (one of the moderators here) P.S. Is the Armenian community in Hawaii close-knit? I have a cousin there that I'd love to get back in touch with. [ September 22, 2001: Message edited by: Aghmug ]

Didn't have my hopes up based on the new songs I had heard them play live last year, BUT the new CD is good stuff!! I like Slipknot alot also, so I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and pay scalper prices for good seats at The Forum.

John Bilezikjian (my oud teacher when I'm being a good student--which I haven't been in a long time) is playing from 4:00pm to 5:00pm that day. -
The Armen Tamzarian (that they took the name from)is a friend of a friend! Really.

Sorry, Harut. I just now saw your post. I have a BS in Math/Statistics, so I obviously like statistics. It's been ages since I've dealt with much else. Fire away with a question or two, Martin! Mike

I'll try and get some info--my cousin is currently doing graduate work in Armenian art at UCLA. -
Lithium, Part of the problem may be that most of the kids are trying to get away from the ways of their immigrant parents/grandparents and they just want to be "regular" Americans. That's how my mom was. I say that even if you have 5 members, you're doing OK. College is probably a better place for that when alot of kids become more socially and politically aware. Since your high school is so close to CSUN, maybe you can co-ordinate with their Armenian Club? Mike

Are you studying from a book? Which one? Mike
