I agree with Martin. Not sure about the age 14 thing, but maybe by late teens/early 20's. I think the maturing that Martin refers to comes in someone's 20's. By about 30, you're done. This creates a dilemma for getting married. You have to make sure you are mature enough to know who you are and what you want, but not too old as to be set in your ways. So I say, marriage somewhere between 25 and 30 is ideal. The most amazing thing about having a child is realizing they are born with a basic personality/disposition. I never knew this. How much parenting has to do with it, is up for debate (i.e., Nature vs. Nurture), but again, I'd agree with Martin that one's "character" is determined by parenting.

Given the history of the region, it's hard to imagine remaining an autonomous country for long. For centuries, cultures have moved through there. HOWEVER, having said that, there seems to be this view (due to the United Nations, NATO, etc.) that current borders are fixed. So if we would have been able to make it to the 1980's/1990's, we would have been set. I would imagine Armenia would be just like the other Caucasus countries. Low-profile, with many parts of the world oblivious to her existence. Given Armenians' firey nature, do you think such an Armenia would have ever experienced a civil war? It never ceases to amaze me how the seemingly most homogenous societies will find ways to divide themselves.

Gayane, In that respect, I see what you're saying. Certainly in the States, Armenian girls are going to get a taste of the evil American liberation and make choices on their own. I can see it becoming more prevalent. While I would never approve of parents disowning a child, at least these parents care enough to give a sh*t. The guitarist of King Crimson, Robert Fripp has been influenced by Gurdjieff. I know, I know, you're thinking: Is music all he thinks about??? In the liner notes from The League of Gentlemen album, 'Thrang Thrang Gozinbulx', Robert Fripp (referring to la Grand Place in Brussels) writes: "The most striking feature of the town hall is its precise architectural expression of what Gurdjieff referred to as Heptaparaparshinokh, the Law of Seven. If one missed the clue of the steeple it would be impossible to overlook the rows of statues in sevens with pillars under the first and fourth of each: C, D, E, semitone; F, G, A, B, semitone; C, etc. (the major scale in Western music) I'm not sure what the hell this means, but maybe some of you do.

I have an album from 1969 of her first recordings made in the US (put out by Tekeyan). I REALLY want to like it, but I don't. I've tried...I've never been a fan of that style of Armenian singing. Too operatic. It has a great cover, though! Go ahead, say it: I'm a loser... P.S. I just got the Sayat Nova 2000 CDs. I really hoping there's somthing great amongst the 20 songs. Aneta, Make sure to include Jell-O and movies in that list, since both are made from gelatin which is derived from cows (the hooves, I believe!).
