  1. I think it's great that most of these spiurgahyes are completely assimilated. It shows that the Turks won.
  2. quote:Originally posted by THOTH: And as for Tigrannes....sigh...to think he is at the young, expiremental age of his (so short) life - at a point where he should be most open to new ideas, idealistic and all - and look what a terrrible old man he has become already...so close minded and negative. I truly fear for him for the future...though perhaps he will grow out of it (when he becomes less insecure about being an Armenian)...while there is still some time to enjoy life. Oh & Tigrannes - when you do finally move to Armenia (we are still waiting) - will you be bringing your satellite dish to recieve all of you Bucks & Packers games? (And just how will that cheese-head go over in Yerevan fashion circles?) Are you waitng for the McDonalds in Republick Square? Do you think they sell Polo there? Perhaps you could become the Armenian snow board team for 2006... [ February 27, 2002: Message edited by: THOTH ] 1)I don't snowboard. 2)Sports are just a distraction, not a necessity. 3)I don't even have satellite or cable here. 4)I'm moving there once everything here is settled.
  3. quote:Originally posted by Azat: [QB] Tigran, what would happen to Kazza, Thoth and to all the rest of us with our attitudes if we went to Armenia? Oh ya, sorry the Lakers kicked some Buck butt tonight. QB] 1)You'd get beat, like them freaks who tried startin a hare krishna thing 2)Devin George looks funnier than Sam Cassell
  4. quote:Originally posted by ARTURian: Kazza, btw i am not in London. Visit Moscow and you'll understand what I mean. About words silly etc. i ask you not to use such words. I am not going to comment on your sayings about me, I am an Armenian, and you still have an Armenian blood in you, so I will have to show respect. If you'd be an english girl, i would act differently. I ask moderators to delete Kazzas signiture. It is disrespectful to us and disgraceful for an armenian girl to post such things in public. PandukhT pls reply and tell wether you are going to ask Kazza to change it. It is an armenian forum, and members should respect out traditions, values and views. Thoth, no comments. You are not serious again. Regards, Artur Don't worry about it Artur, we both know what would happen to people like Kazza and Thoth if they actually went to Hayasdan with their attitudes.
  5. quote:Originally posted by hagarag: My great-grandfather was a major benefactor od the Armenian Church. He solely paid for the total restoration of an Armenian Church. I thank God that he allowed his youngest daughter to marry an Armenian Catholic and convert to Catholicism. I am glad that my father, having received the ultimate insults from the priests in boarding schools of that church, bolted to become a Protestant when his young children had major problems with church officials. You say we don't question, we worship. Worship what, the words of Jesus or the words of Sol Invictus? Do you really know what you are worshipping? I would have been very uncomfortable in a church where one could not question the validity of the doctrines of the church leaders. That's all good and great, but still.... the Armenian Church was started by an Apostle, the Protestant churches by men. Are you fasting for Lent?
  6. quote:Originally posted by Harut: surprise, surprise!!! Sweden - Belorusia 3 - 4 Sweden lost!!! ==== Russia - Czech Republic 1 - 0 any predictions for the Russia/US game? If Xabibulin plays like today, Russia is goin all the way.... who's gonna stop em, the Canadians???
  7. Who're you guys cheering for??? Until there's an Armenian team..... I'm pulling for ROSSIYA (up 1-0 on Czech Republic right now)
  8. quote:Originally posted by Juggernaut: The ambassador should be demoted, as a slap in the face for Isreali policy........ Lots of Armenians are calling for persona non grata status for the Israeli ambassador.
  9. quote:Originally posted by hagarag: Tigrannes III, Would you still feel this way if I informed you that the line of Dikran Medz and the Bagratuni line were the two Armenian royal lines which were direct descendents of Jews? The Roupenians and Hetumians were primarily Armenian-French with only periferal Jewish ancestry. so what, I'd be in charge
  10. quote:Originally posted by khodja: Restoration of the Armenian monarchy will bring stability and an interesting tourist draw to Armenia. To those of us who are geneologists, it will be a boom for our business. Personally, I wish to have my title restored by the new monarch, as a member of the Cilician nobility. LONG LIVE THE ROUPENIANS AND THE HETHUMIANS!!!!!!!!! only way that works is with the continuation of the Medzn Dikran line....... naturally
  11. quote:Originally posted by Juggernaut: The ambassador should be demoted, as a slap in the face for Isreali policy........ Armenia should kick them out of the country and begin a policy of categorically denying the Holocaust. Auschwitz was nothing more than a German-Jewish party, like Mardis Gras!!! They're lucky I'm only sarcastic and not willing to stoop to their level.
  12. http://groong.usc.edu/news/msg43889.html They better not say it to my face...
  13. quote:Originally posted by aurguplu: Domino, 1. the armenians were not killed simply because they were christians. there were armenian revolutionary bodies, formed in the late 19th century, with the aim of overthrowing the ottoman administration and establishing a free state. terrorist activities by some of these groups also date from that period. the armenians had also formed armed groups who had fought on the russian and french sides BEFORE 24th April, 1915. this is not taken from any turkish propaganda but from actual armenian accounts which give detailed info on the above moreover, armenian inflammatory propaganda directed at the ottoman armenians (in some cases multilingual) also abounds, and could be found in the libraries and archives of any self-respecting academic institution that specialises in the affairs of that period, not necessarily founded/run/staffed/financed/directed by turkey (some such institutions exist in england, germany, france, and the usa, for instance). regards, Oh no, Armenians fighting to have their state independent from foreign control! My, what a sin!
  14. I've heard some not so good things on how these girls go about getting their places in the contest.....
  15. quote:Originally posted by hasmiek: so what makes someone an Armenian? 1. having an armenian name 2. having 2 armenian parents 3. having one armenian parent 4. talking the armenian language 5. knowing how to read and write armenian 6. going to an armenian church 7. eating armenian food 8. having armenian friends 9. living by the bible and what unarmenians some one? having sex before marriage.... having a non armenian (wo)man? ... you should really look at 9 again. You spit on my martyred ancestors.
  16. quote:Originally posted by hagarag: Tigrannes III, We should maintain the good parts of our culture and reject the bad. Most of the bad is not part of the original Armenian culture anyway. By advocating the maintenance of those aspects of our culture you are driving many Armenians out of our community. It is the conservative Armenians who drove my father, the grandson of an Amira, to become literally an odar, changing his name religion and approach to life. He emerged a quintessential American, Protestant, harboring no accent (years of phonetic lessons), and with an Anglo name. With his fair hair and green eyes he passed easily as a Northern European. He rarely divulged his heritage. It was you conservative Armenians harboring the negative aspects of the Armenian psyche that drove him to this. Tell me what 'other' Armenian culture would permit some of the stuff that goes on today?
  17. The numbers aren't important so much as the concept- there was an attempt to kill the whole Armenian population. Seeing as how the Turks left the infrastructure to move in other Muslims, the objective becomes quite clear.
  18. quote:Originally posted by Juggernaut: Yeah, I'm really bad at controlling myself when it comes to PC games, so I stopped playing any after Age of Empires 2 got the better of me and I failed a uni subject . The only game I've played since for any length of time was Sudden Strike (a very good world war 2 real-time strategy sim, you will need to get a mod though, to make it truelly realistic). Stopped playing that six months ago, but I think I'm gonna get hoocked again when Warcraft 3 comes out . multiplayer tip for AOK players: to be very good at multiplayer (I was ), you must use keyboard shortcuts. And my fave army were the Turks, there is no way of beating Janni/hussar/bombard cannon combo in imperial, they are the BEST. we created a Crusades scenario where you destroy all the mosques ))) send them janissaries back to their real people
  19. quote:Originally posted by hasmiek: So I guess you are the one without the heart… My parents raised two children who both have their MSc dedree. Added to that my brother has graduated from a most respected art school, and I recently got into phd program in the university. Education isn’t everything, I know, but I can say that both my bro and me are good people. My parents know how society works, how human relationships work and how to adapt in a foreign culture without loosing their own cultural heritage. If they had not adapted to the Netherlands my brother and I would NEVER have the opportunities we have now. Tell me, consevatives, do our parents speak proper english? Do your parents understand what you are doing in school and in your free time? You have no respect for people. Every other culture embraces all the people who are slightly part of it. You conservative Armenians are a shame to us; you are racists. Not only to other cultures (wich is bad enough), but also to Armenians who accept the fact that they live in a country with other values and who partly live by those values. I have lived in holland, in India and in Germany. In every country I took over a part of the local culture, but i never neglected my Armenian traditions. Even in India I found my way to Armenian churches and families. Did I look for Dutch people...no, as i am not Dutch in the first place. And yes, i took some parts of evey culture with me, and that makes me a richer person. And who do you think you are to judge of who is an authentic armenian and who is not. God? well, boys, I don't think so. You want to talk education? I come from a family of attorneys, my mother is a nurse, and I go to one of the best universities in the USA, and I will leave with a masters from one of the best programs in my field. As for not neglecting your Armenian culture? Oh, yes, you have. From all the people from Hindusdan that I know, they act alot more like Armenians- they dont go off living with white guys. Yes, your parents should have adapted a little, but they are fully assimilated if they are not chastising you. It is you liberal 'Armenians' who are destorying the diaspora. How can you ever call yourself Armenian if you can't even live by a few of the principles?
  20. quote:Originally posted by Harut: i personally like strategy games: warcraft, age of empires, ceaser, and all those old war games. i also like chess, though haven't played for a while. another game than i find interesting is SWAT 3. it's pretty challenging. and of course besides all these i play bunch of other time wasteing games. tavlu (nardi) is about the only game i play wtih regularity, but odars here don't know it, so i can't get the necessary practice minus yahoo games. my friends got me pretty hooked on age of empires II, though. thank God I don't have a copy here.
  21. quote:Originally posted by hagarag: The Turkish government wants the average American to view all Armenians as terrorists. So they will be honoring a US FBI agent, Peter Elliot,in Turkey. This was the FBI agent whose research put Murad Topalian behind bars. The hundreds of famous and the millions of not-so-famous Armenian-Americans, some of whose Armenian ancestors have been in America since before the Revolution and many of whose ancestors came to America at the turn of the 20th Century, the Turks hope to dismiss. Instead of focusing upon these millions of productive Americans, they will focus upon an Armenian-American who was convicted of involvement with violent anti-Turkish activity. They are riding high on the wave of September 11, but the wave will pass soon. Next they will be lobbying to keep Saddam Hussein in power so that the Kurds do not get any stronger. This will put them at odds with the West. turkish police keep on arresting citizens who are burning US flags. if only the military didn't control everything..... Turkey could be called Pakistan! Literally. Anybody with an 83% literacy rate shouldn't be allowed into the CoE let alone the EU.
  22. quote:Originally posted by THOTH: Rich - how petty and simple this post makes you look... Ha! You're the one who tries to call himself Armenian while being in complete opposition to that culture's fundamental principles.
  23. quote:Originally posted by hasmiek: wow, this is annoying so what do yoy old fashioned boys do with girls who had sex before marriage...throw rocks at them on some kind of executionsquare? I live with my (non armenian) boyfriend; my parents have no problem with it and neither does the rest of my familiy. Funny how 60 year old people have more understanding for the new ways in the changing society than a you students. shame on ya! you live in the netherlands. i think that says it all. you're dutch, not armenian.
  24. quote:Originally posted by THOTH: Rich - By your definition your father should never have dated your mother. Are you now telling us there are exceptions to this rule? Could you please define the exact circumstances of acceptability for an Armenian to date outside of the "race".... Your post has nothing to do with the point I have made. And who are you to claim a monopoly on what it is to be Armenian. I bet my Shish Kebab and Pilaf blow yours away any day. And BTW - my non-Armenian wife makes a fine paklava. i must admit I am the Pilaf make of the family - though her Persian rice is unbeatable - and I can't seem to be able to duplicate it. I also have a fine collection of Armenian carpets, ceramics, music and other items in my home. I follow Armenian political issues and am a staunch advocate of Genocide recognition - on the net or otherwise. No one who ever meets me - even when I travel to Turkey - has any doubt that my heritage is Armenian. So please refrain from telling me what I am or am not qualified or eligible to comment on... If I have to be a hypocrite to love my mother so be it. I'm sorry you can't see that. I, for one, will never be with an odar and all Armenians should be the same. You obviously failed that test. As for your culture? You're an atheist, a liberal, and advocate pre-marrital sex. You really have no business flooding this forum with your filth. Food doesn't mean anything. Is she in the church even? Oh wait, you're not even in the church.
  25. quote:Originally posted by THOTH: Follow on to above post (of mine): I do beleive that the Armenian culture has intrinsic value and that it will survive (Westernization/assimilation)...in some form (as it has survived everything else...much tougher even then this). I think there are more fundemental things for (Diaspora)Armenians to be concerned with. One is the fate of their brethern in Armenia which is in a really percarious situation and needs our help - and as a rallying point is good for maintaining Armenian awareness in the Diaspora. Another problem i see is with the Armenian Church(s)...by and large they suck! (and this is not so much my opinion as my observation and from much talk with friends and reletives who do attend and are active with various Armenian and other (having chosen to leave the Armenian congregation) churches. I beleive the Arnmenian churches have a great deal of necessary reform that they are avoiding. They are loosing/have lost (much of) their relevancy and there is the problem of the supply of priests - particularly here in the States (but I think in Europe too)....(so perhaps every Armenian in Armenia can becaome a priest and supply the world...essentially what is happening...good for job prospects - but bad for the church in the Diaspora - these guys are frequently like our budy Arthur - they are out of touch)...lets see - other problems - there are many I supose - but nmost of you probably know these better then I. It is just my opinion that too much concern is placed over this idea of assimilation - a problem that you really cannot do anything (effective/directly) about. It is going to happen to a certain extent - this is inevitable (and is not necissarily a bad thing either - for a number of reasons). What I am saying is that I think there are more direct problems in the Diaspora/community that require dealing with - as opposed to wasrting breath concerning something you will have little success with....(something like me trying to convince Turks concerning the Genocide I guess...LOL...but I actually have had [at least some] sucess there...and I would hope the momentum is in my favor...) who are you to talk about Armenian culture? Just who are you to even have positions on these issues? You are an American- not an Armenian. Go ahead and try to say that my mother is American- she's more Armenian than half the people on these forums. As for the priests..... hmmm, maybe they preach what they're supposed to preach? Ever think about that. Now stop advocating things that our culture doesn't approve of.
