Ever since I have known you, you have beaten me in chess every game you played. You weren’t shy to ridicule me when you would mate me in a matter of 2 minutes while I was struggling to get my queen out for an attack. I guess those days served as a beginning of my feminist orientation. Being in constant company of you, Karen and a few others of my childhood male friends, I realized that I had to prove myself as a girl, since most of them took advantage of my petite build and my colorful dresses and bows in my hair, which served as a target of mockery. And xxxSip you tought me a valuable lesson… I remember when you put my favorite dress on, it was sky blue with a little apron that had a princess with snowflakes embroidery, the edges of the apron were adorned with delicate lace and the ribbons were to be tied in the back for a beautiful effect of a glorious bow. What a dress it was! To my great horror I watched you parade in my room with that dress on, as it was slowly tearing at the seams with tiny particles of the grape leaves of dolma stuck in your golden teeth you said with a triumph: “You see I am wearing a dress, however it just doesn’t fit me as well as it would fit a woman, does it? Well this is a proof that you should never try to be what you are not, girls wear dresses and men lift them with one hand and with the other they try to reach the sky, and that will never change, now go to the kitchen and learn how to cook!” I will never forget those words, I still remember your gut ascending from underneath that delicate apron distorting a slim figure of a little princess, I slightly remember that her face looked green perhaps from the lack of oxygen, and your chest hair (yes Armenian men start growing hair at a very young age) was peering from the white collar of my sky blue dress giving it a unique look of an expensive fur collar. Dear XxSip, you were an inspiration to me, your mind that was not corrupt with an intellect, your short temper, your ability to shove pebbles far down your ears while you cracked nuts were some of those exceptional qualities that make me realize that I am so thankful that adult age came quickly… Happy birthday to you, You devil!!!! Agh the blue dress turned into a dust cloth (a very Armenian tradition of recycling clothes aka dust cloths), since his male form ripped it along the seams. And speaking of that it reminds me my most hated article of clothing ---- kalgotkaner or retuz, yuk! I hated those stubbly things with a passion and what is more I can’t believe that boys used to wear them without any pants over it. I think all Armenian men would be natural ballet dancer since from childhood they were introduced the comfort and flexibility of tights. As for xxSip, I hope he won’t kick my ass, for the record I exaggerated that story about him shoving a pebble down his ear while cracking the nuts... Also MosJan I must say that I really like your avatar, it gives me this sense of mystic and yet tranquil feel. Although I must admit I thought it was a tree by the moon at first and then I realized that it was the fierce anima, the bad wolf that has been given a very bad reputation by the worlds’ misunderstanding of his habits of survival, and now he is howling at the world in despair and injustice….Err whatever it’s cool in other words.
