Armat Posted December 11, 2003 Report Share Posted December 11, 2003 I started a new job recently and upon completion of my fifth day of training I must take a test, which is pretty complicated and long. The data is about twenty pages long and I must know it all word by word to pass. If not I don’t get the job. I am bit nervous since this job means lot to me and needed some advice in best method of memorizing or learning the material. I don’t have much time. At best I got 12 hours to know it all. Dan Posted December 11, 2003 Report Share Posted December 11, 2003 words lot of complicated words 80% French termanalogies oh... in that case.. hmmm.. well, I learned a lot of English words I didn't even know existed when I was taking the SAT I test, and I put the words on small papers and the meanings on the other side, and tried to take a guess at each word and then see if I had got the meaning right... so even if you don't have to know the meanings of them, you could still do something like that to memorize them in order (if that's what is required).. just a suggestion. In my case, I can sometimes visualize things and sometimes "hear" things. I think I remember random strings of numbers and letters best by the auditory method. For example to memorize my credit card numbers, driver license and bank account numbers, etc, I repeat it several times and then after a while, it "sounds" natural to me! I was at the bank a few months ago and the teller lady wanted my driver license and savings account numbers. I couldn't write it down from memory but she was shocked to see that after a couple of tries, I was able to say it out loud! In other cases, when there is "structure" to data, I learn the structure. That is the best way to memorize complicated things. It is hard to explain but for example how can one memorize the steps required to accomplish a task (for example a computer algorithm or something as simple as "loggin on to hyeforum"?) There is often a logical and natural sequence of steps that is easier to memorize than random letters and numbers. By the way, in my experience, some people are extremely visual, some people extremely auditory, some people must write down something to remember ... for me, I think I am a combination of those in different cases. Also, remember that just because there is no inherent structure to the "data" you are trying to memorize, that doesn't mean you can't artificially create and impose a structure on it! Great - congrats! seee....now about that Margaux..I hope your talking something perhaps 1990 or before...otherwise I would suggest waiting a bit!
