Starting in March I'll be full time student teaching, which means getting up at 6am every weekday ... and of course, I teach privately over the weekends, which means I won't be able to sleep in, EVER, for the next four months

After I graduate this year , i will remember with joy and thank the American system of education for those “free elective” units …They allowed me to go crazy and take whatever class i liked; guitar, French (people did say ‘are you crazy?’) , etc…In Armenia (the Soviet system of education) we would go to the university on the first weekday of September, and the class schedule was ready and hanging on the wall…It certainly spared us the wait at the counseling office and the counselor’s-math-gone-wrong situations…But we never learned to be independent, and there was no room or opportunity for us to decide, think, and in a way create the 5 year long experience for ourselves…

 

So…The French professor is something else …1st chapter. Greeting…

 

“Now you all listen to me, NEVER use ‘Adieu’…It means 'until we see each other before God'…You use it in 2 situations only! 1. The person is terminally ill, and he/she KNOWS it. 2.You are ending a relationship, with a conscious intention not to meet again, and if you do, the ‘Adieu’ will keep ringing in your ears …”

 

After the speech, it took het good 10 minutes to put the class back together…
