Armenia goes head to head with Azerbaijan, winning 88-76

Aslanian took home the trophy after averaging 17.4 points, 16.2 rebounds, 3.6 block,s and 3.6 assists per game for the gold medal winner, Armenia. She scored in double-digits in every single game, including a monster performance in Armenia’s win in the final versus Malta on July 29, with 22 points, 31 rebounds, and 12 blocks.

The entire team from Malta had six blocks throughout the Championship. Aslanian saved twice as many just for the Final outing, finishing the game with 22 points, 31 rebounds, 12 blocks and sevan assists. She almost singlehandedly outrebounded Malta, who had 39 rebounds.

Malta struggled with their shooting percentage, connecting on 19-of-79 shots from the field. With such a poor shooting performance, they could not make their 18-7 edge in steals count. Michaela Zammit Cordina was their lone ranger in double figures with 15 points.

Joining Aslanian in the All-Star Five in the tournament are Mariam Okropiridze, Agnesa Rrahmani, Mireya Benitez Lopez, and Michela Zammit Cordina. Okropiridze had 32 points for Georgia in the Third-Place Game, hitting 6-of-13 from the great beyond, and her tournament averages were 19 points and six assists per outing.

YEREVAN. – Despite the absence of modern laboratories, the schoolchildren of Armenia win medals at international Olympiads, biology teacher Gayane Ghukasyan said at a press conference on Friday.

She noted that this year the country’s schoolchildren have won 4 silver and 7 bronze medals and received 2 certificates of honor, but added that the respective situation is worse in the neighboring countries.

In turn, Ashot Arakelyan, head of the Public Education Department at the Ministry of Education and Science, said Team Armenia has never returned from an Olympiad without medals.

“Armenia doesn’t ‘lose it’ even alongside such countries as China and the US,” he added.

PanARMENIAN.Net - An Armenian team of young women was selected among the finalists and won the People's Choice Award in a months-long app-building competition, The Technovation Challenge, organized by Google at the company’s campus.

More than 11,000 girls from 103 countries formed teams to address issues in several categories: peace, poverty, environment, equality, education, and health. This week, the finalists traveled to Google’s headquarters in Mountain View to pitch their ideas to a panel of tech leaders and other experts.

The Armenian team was comprised of Aghavni Hakobyan, Sona Avetisyan, Svetlana Davtyan, Violeta Mkrtchyan, Vardanush Nazaretyan, Google said in a blog post.

When a deaf classmate visited their school, the team of five girls from the village of Karbi, Aragatsotn village, came up with the idea for an app -- aptly called Armenian Sign Language -- to help people learn Armenian sign language using videos of sign gestures. Armenian Sign Language was developed to help connect those with poor hearing and those with good hearing. The app is suitable for English and Armenian speakers of all ages.

Four girls from Kazakhstan behind a safety app called QamCare were crowned the winner of the Senior Division and will receive $15,000.

Armenia, other finalists Kenya and India will receive $10,000 each.

Armenian gymnast sets ‘Guinness’ record for 92 rotations on high bar
http://www.aravot-en.am/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/david-fahradyan.gif

Four-times record-holder David Fahradyan set the next fifth record making 92 rotations in a row on a high bar with a reverse grasp in the USA in 2016. At the meeting with journalists, David Fahradyan informed that recently he has received the record certificate. “The record application was accepted, and a few months later we received the online certificate, and now we have received the original certificate itself. Such a record was not made by any gymnast, I had been training for about three years. This is the fifth record: it’s unique in gymnastics, to have 5 certificates”, noted David Fahradyan.

He noted that high bar is one of the forms of gymnastics: “Rotations are unusual, I hold on the bar almost with two fingers, with my arms in opposite position. Preparing for the record took a long time. I made 94 rotations, the application was for 51 rotations, but I surpassed within 2 minutes and 18 seconds”.

David Fahradyan has been going in for gymnastics since he was 7 years old. He has founded a gymnastics school. He teaches at YSU Sports Department.

93-year-old Armenian man may be the world's oldest masters diver
http://media.pn.am/media/issue/247/712/photo/247712.jpg

Even at 93 years old, Tom Hairabedian is diving head-first into competition.

The oldest masters level diver in the world, known as “Dr. Dive”, began competing at 17 years old, and though he’s slowed down a bit, he’s still performing dives most people decades younger wouldn’t even dream of attempting, FanSided says.

According to the International Swimming Hall of Fame, where Hairabedian has been a member since 2007, he developed his “can do it” mentality from his mother and father, who survived the Armenian Genocide and served as a Captain in the Russian Army, respectively.

He competed on USC’s diving team and then went on to become the head swimming and diving coach at Central Missouri State University.

At the Masters level, he has more than 140 national titles and 16 world titles.

He even takes his dives all the way up to the 10-meter platform (that’s 32 feet). Check out his backflip from that height when he was 90 years old.

Born in 1924, Hairbedian is capable of putting on a show off the diving boards, too. In July, he played the national anthem on his harmonica at the USA Masters Games in Carlsbad, Calif.

He has a doctorate degree in physical education and follows a raw foods diet, and it’s paid off. He doesn’t have any metal holding his body together, like many of his friends who are former divers, and he reports no major health issues.
