Yervant1
Inside the GamesOct 4 2021 Record-breaking weightlifting finale in Finland by Armenian super-heavyweight Lalayan3 Add commentBy Brian Oliver Monday, 4 October 2021 Varazdat Lalayan highlighted Armenia’s prowess in the heavier categories of men’s weightlifting by rounding off the European Junior and Under-23 Championships in Rovaniemi in Finland with three continental records. The 22-year-old missed his final two attempts but by then he had already bettered the European under-23 super-heavyweight records across the board with a snatch of 206 kilograms, a clean and jerk of 241kg and a phenomenal total of 447kg.That was 6kg more than Ali Davoudi of Iran made in taking silver at the Tokyo Olympic Games in August.Second-placed Eduard Ziaziulin of Belarus, who holds two European junior records, was 16kg behind Lalayan and the bronze medallist Oleh Hanzenko of Ukraine was beaten by 69kg.Hanzenko’s team mate Bohdan Hoza had arguably the outstanding single performance of the week when he broke his own junior world record for the 109kg snatch, making 190kg on his way to victory.Ukraine’s junior world champion Kamila Konotop, who was fifth in Tokyo, made 95-114-209 in winning the women’s 55kg.Ukraine finished third in the combined junior and under-23 medals table behind Russia and Armenia, with the ever-improving Italian team fourth. Armenia won the men’s 81kg, 89kg, 109kg and over-109kg in the under-23 event.Gor Minasyan, Lalayan’s 26-year-old national team mate, would be the best super-heavyweight in the world but for the presence of Lasha Talakhadze, the unstoppable multiple champion and world record-holder from Georgia.Lasha was in Finland to train and as a special guest of the organisers, but he was not there to see Lalayan’s effort as he was being taken on a visit around "the official hometown of Santa Claus", as Rovaniemi sells itself. In the junior super-heavyweights Enzo Kuworge of The Netherlands made it look easy with six from six.Kuworge, who totalled 409kg when he finished sixth in Tokyo, did not need to lift anywhere near as much as he comfortably added the European title to the world junior title he won in May.The 20-year-old made 175-210-385. There were rare gold medals for Serbia, via Radmila Zagorac in the junior women’s 45kg, and Norway, whose Solfrid Koanda took the under-23 women’s super-heavyweights.Athletes from Israel, Czech Republic, Finland, Denmark and Slovakia made rare visits to the podium through the week and Britain took gold and bronze in the under-23 women’s 55kg through Fraer Morrow and Catrin Jones. But apart from Italy - which has improved from ninth to fifth to fourth in the past three Junior and Under-23 Championships - the dominant nations were from eastern Europe.Armenia had five winners in the juniors, three men and two women, while Russia had four.Artur Babayan, with a 365kg total in the junior men’s 96kg, Evgeniia Guseva with 103-127-230 in the junior women’s 71kg, and Daria Akhmerova, with 245kg in the under-23 women’s 87kg, were arguably the top performers for Russia. For Italy, Giulia Imperio set a clean and jerk continental junior record of 101kg as she won the junior women’s 49kg with 82-101-183, and Giulia Miserendino took the Junior 64kg with 100-120-220.Their junior men’s winners were Sergio Massida at 61kg with 126-154-280 and Cristiano Ficco at 89kg with 158-196-348.There was a poignant victory for the Romanian Bianca Dumitrescu, who was presented with a unique Fair Play Award by Lasha and Santa.Dumitrescu should have competed in the under-23 women’s 45kg, where she was a strong medal contender, but was temporarily in isolation with the entire Romanian team after a false COViD-19 positive for a team mate. The amended result of the false positive was not provided in time for her to make the official weigh-in. Instead she lifted alone between sessions, but her results could not count.Milan Mihajlovic, secretary general of the European Weightlifting Federation, praised the "correct and impeccable behaviour in the spirit of the sport" of Dumitrescu and the Romanian Weightlifting Federation. https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1113794/weightlifting-euro-junior-u23

Yervant1
Tehran Times Iran - Jan 17 2022 Landscaping, cleaning project completed on Bushehr Gregorian Church Tourism January 17, 2022 - 22:47 TEHRAN – The old structure, courtyard, and other premises of Bushehr Gregorian Church have recently been rearranged and cleaned as local authorities plan to reopen the historical place to sightseers in near future. “The Gregorian Church of Bushehr is one of the most important and significant historical monuments of the southwestern Iranian port city. It is now fully cleaned in preparation for reopening to sightseers,” a local tourism official said on Monday. In addition to the main building, the courtyard and other premises of the church have been landscaped, the official said. Furthermore, tombstones of the church were treated to become documented in near future, the official explained. Iran is home to many historical churches, chapels, and cathedrals. The Iranian churches St. Thaddeus, St. Stephanus, and Dzordzor (Zorzor) in East Azerbaijan Province and West Azarbaijan province were registered on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2008. The UNESCO website described the monuments as “examples of the outstanding universal value of the Armenian architectural and decorative traditions,” and adding, “They bear testimony to very important interchanges with the other regional cultures, in particular the Byzantine, Orthodox, and Persian.” The St. Thaddeus Church, also known as the Black Church (Qara Kelissa), is probably Iran’s most interesting and notable Christian monument, located near the Chaldoran region in Maku, West Azarbaijan. Christians from all over the world annually gather at the church on July 1 for their annual commemoration of the martyrdom of St. Thaddeus, one of the 12 disciples, also known as St. Jude, (not to be confused with Judas Iscariot), who was martyred while spreading the Gospel. Located near Marand in East Azarbaijan, the St. Stephanus Church was renovated during the reign of the Safavid king Shah Abbas (1588-1629). According to Hayk Ajimian, an Armenian scholar and historian, the church was originally built in the ninth century CE, but repeated earthquakes in the region severely damaged the original structure. The Dzordzor Church, located in the village of Barone in Zangar Valley of the Chaldoran region in the northern part of West Azarbaijan Province, was built in 1315 CE. The term Gregorian Church is an exonym not preferred by the church itself, as it views the apostles Bartholomew and Thaddeus as its founders, St. Gregory the Illuminator was merely the first official primate of the church. It is also known simply as the Armenian Church. Yervant1
Jan 19 2022 Blair High School Armenian Academy Student Named Finalist in Congressional App Challenge Published on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 | 4:41 pm Congresswoman Judy Chu, at left, and Blair High School student Ruben Ghazaria at right A 9th grader at the Armenian Academy at Blair High School in Pasadena has been named one of the 2022 finalists in the Congressional App Challenge, according to a report by Asbarez, a newspaper and news website serving the Armenian American community in Southern California. Ruben Ghazarian, the son of Pasadena residents Garabed and Lucine Ghazarian, was among 27 high school students who entered the Congressional App Challenge in California’s 27th District. The report said U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu, who represents the 27th district which includes Pasadena, announced five finalists and the winner on December 16. The report added Ghazarian has been coding for over two years and was excited for the opportunity to compete in the challenge. His app, called “Resto-Math,” took him over two months to develop, using his free time in between classes and while at home. Ghazarian said he designed the app to help students learn math in an entertaining way, without being repetitive. He hopes to one day have a career in business, computer science, engineering, or robotics. The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide coding challenge created through a House of Representatives resolution in 2013 and aims to encourage high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. With help from the Internet Education Foundation, the leaders of the U.S. Congress wanted to foster an appreciation for computer science and STEM. Every year since then, members of Congress have been challenging students in their districts to create and submit their original apps for a chance to win the Challenge. Each challenge is district-specific. U.S. representatives publicly recognize their winning teams, and each winning app may be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year. Yervant1
May God bless and reward your kindness, job well done patriot! March 17 2022 Local nurse helping train people in Armenia while maintaining its culture (WXYZ) — We're continuing to celebrate women making a difference in local communities and beyond as part of Women's History Month.Nairi Karapetian has spent the last two decades trying to improve the quality of life for people in Armenia. The country has a long history of genocide and unrest.Karapetian is a nurse at Beaumont Royal Oak and a proud grandchild of four Armenia genocide survivors. Despite being born here, she's been traveling back for years to bring aid and provide medical care to her people.Since 2020, they've been at war with Azerbaijan, a conflict similar to the one going on in Ukraine.St. Sarkis in Dearborn is where Karapetian got married. It's also where two of her kids were baptized. There's a lot of meaning within these walls, but what she loves most about being there is how connected she feels to her roots."Although I wasn't born there, Armenia was part of my identity, it was part of my soul and we all felt a commitment to honor the survival of our ancestors, of our grandparents," she said.An estimated 1.5 million people died in the Ottoman-era Armenia genocide. Turkey, the ultimate heirs of the Ottoman Empire, denied the massacre.Last year, President Joe Biden declared April 24 National Armenian Remembrance Day. Karapetian and others living in the U.S. waited a long time for that acknowledgment."There are more people living in the diaspora Armenians than there are people in Armenia, but all of us are magnetized back," Karapetian said. She said that pull got stronger in 2020 when violence erupted between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Republic of Artsakh. Both ex-Soviet neighbors claim the territory belongs to them. Mind you, this was all happening during the height of the pandemic."Ukraine is getting a lot of attention, which is what it should be, but Armenia should have gotten attention too and so should a lot of other countries when they were being brutally attacked in a very similar way. There are lots of parallels," she said.As a long-time nurse, Karapetian knew she could help injured civilians. She collected over 280 boxes of medical supplies and headed for Armenia's front lines"We've got this ongoing genocide right now and our history is just so sad and it just seems to never end. It is just an ongoing trauma," Karapetian said.A nation that was once a large empire is now the size of Maryland. Karapetian fears Armenia will one day be no more, which is why she weaves tradition, language and culture into everything she does."I told my daughter, whether it's in my lifetime or yours, if Armenia is gone, it needs to exist in our hearts and we need to keep it going," she said.Karapetian is going to Armenia next month to start a pilot program for nurses. She wants to empower them to take more initiative by the bedside and bring them up to date on CPR and other life-support training.https://www.wxyz.com/news/local-nurse-helping-train-people-in-armenia-while-maintaining-its-cultureWatch the Video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrhbu51ktkY https://news.yahoo.com/local-nurse-helping-train-people-114526839.html
