wh00t
A Turk on one hand, an Armenian on the other.. both naive and oblivious to the world around them. Â It is one thing to be a pessimist, and another to be a realist. The outlooks of both philosophies are often mutally interchangable, that's a given, because hey... contrary to what you two believe, the world isn't all sunshine, flowers, and lollipops. Go back and read my "story" - most of the things I wrote there were reiterations of your own crap.Realistic?? YOU??If you were realistic, you would have taken my point regarding outright generalizations and working on elevating that 11% to 55%.Come on, I'm waiting, damn it - how am I your inferior?? YOU??I'm sorry, but if you can sit there and honestly try to tell me that a Turko-Armenian marriage would not be frowned upon by anyone, then yes, you are naive and oblivious to the world. I can't speak for Turks, but for many Armenians, marrying someone of the other race (odar) is not a good thing. Before you launch your whole generalization schpeil on me, I suggest you read the posts in this very forum.. one even wrote a message about killing an odar man who was going to take an Armenian girl away from us. But joining a Turk and Armenian would without a doubt trigger the worst response among Armenians when it comes to odar marriages. Marriage of an Armenian girl to a Turkish man must be the worst of them all, as it brings back painful memories of Armenian girls who were forced to do that (and convert to Islam) in the 1910's and beyond. You see, we've had the displeasure of having our population artificially reduced, almost to the point of extinction... you can see why preservation of our race is important. None of what happened in history will give you the right to gobble about Thorny and an Armenian man coming together.I am not aware of anyone who will seriously frown if I were to make such a decision and absolutely nobody and nothing could get in my way. That said, and generalization put aside, you actually condone the killing of other people because they decide they would like to make their own choices?OK, then, f.u.c.k. it, let me be naive and oblivious - those that advocate such are BARBARIANS. They are no different than the ones that kill their own kin who choose to convert to another religion, even another sect, because "our ancestors suffered so much to protect their faith," and even I get the same shit because I am an atheist; I am reminded that our people fought the War of Liberation for their faith, boo boo boo, what I am doing is betrayal, boo hoo hoo. Stiff crap! I am FREE, and I opt to view those struggles as fight for freedom - of their own and mine.It is your own incompetence if you can't tell the difference between rape and a grown-up's choice!Come on, Twoot - where is the list of things that make me your inferior? In fact, some probably encourage marrying Armenians. I know of a woman in my grandparents' apartment complex who is actively seeking an Armenian wife for her son. Go figure. That said, and generalization put aside, you actually condone the killing of other people because they decide they would like to make their own choices? It wasn't me who spoke of killing the odar man.. and I certainly didn't condone the idea.If you wish to ignore your heritage and seek a foreign mate, well so be it. ThornyRose
My being prodded for being an atheist IS a problem, Twoot. I do not deny that there will be brown-nosers. I'll bet he also tells his 5-year-old kids that Santa Claus doesn't exist because rein-deer can't fly! Moreover, he succumbs to public opinion regarding spouses from another community - the more you succumb, the more they will feel justified to bully you! MJ
I have not mentioned your name, have I? Why this insecurity? Something wrong deep inside?  Supporting or not supporting one’s marriage is one thing, and not intervening is another.  Long time ago I have gone to an Armenian Church in LA and Detroit. I have seen a lot of Turkish faces looking unpleasantly at Philipino wives.  I don’t see where have I raised uproar on the subject. Do you? [ September 09, 2001: Message edited by: MJ ]
