Marriage age for girls in old Armenia

Alla, I agree with your getting old alone theory. In addition to that, some people feel this amazing need to be around other people ALL the time.

In addition to that, I think up-bringing has a lot to do with it. I just look around to the people I know very closely (esp. the Armenian ones) ... it seems as if for them, getting married is a MUST ... something that everyone has to do. I blame their parrent/relatives for that.

But let me say this. I think if someone is thinking of having kids (a very valid choice in life I think) marriage is pretty much a must. Maybe not the traditional marriage with the ring and the drinking and the big cake ... No! the important thing is the LONG term commitment to the kids.

Can anyone tell me the whole polint of getting married? I'm sure that it's not for the romance, partnership and sex , like one of you mentioned above, because you can get them all without even being married. I also don't think that you get married to ahve children, since you don't have to get married to be ably to ahev kids, accidents happen. So what's the whole point of getting married, what do u get from being married?

In my opinion, i think that some people are afraid of getting old alone, so they want somebody to grow old with. In other words, they don't want to die alone.

Oh I'll tell you why dear Harut!! I'll tell you. It's like a bad addiction ... first it starts off as a "experimentation"... you go in there looking around, enjoying yourself ... then you slowly start to touch the stuff on the shelves ... then read the lables and compare features ... then you buy a couple of things to play around with them ....

... and before you know it, you go there everyday, blowing you hard earned cash on the Fry's "high" ... every day needing more and more to get your "fix". It doesn't just stop in the PC and components department ... you slowly start to go into the digital camera sections and the house hold appliances ... you even go and start playing with those iMacs ... you start buying nose hair trimmers with some attachments that you have NO idea what they are for. You go into the "fun/strange" section looking at the remote controlled cars and the strange lookings gizmos ...

... and then eventually you start getting closer and closer to the special "BOSE" section (you know what I'm talking about ) ... that special hidden room in the back that only a few go in but no one comes out

Until one day you decide, that's it. It's time to stop. NO MORE FRYS.

And then the nausia, shakes, and the headaches start

Mosjan,

I don't mean to be rude, but that was pretty funny! You actually told the judge the guy deserved capital punishment? Man! I got dropped by the defense attorney for not making too much eye contact with the client/"thief!"...you live dangerously!

Hi Seaphan

In old days it used be that way the girls used to get married even at the age of 9. It might sound wierd but that is reality. I remember my granpa was telling story from the village his father was from what had happened is the neighbor who had a girl got married at the age of 9 to a 30 year old man and of course my granpa would tell this just as a joke because after the marrige the girl would take her doll and will go ask other neighbor daughteher to play with her. EVEN very famous Armenian writer Hovanes Tumanian has a banastextsution conserning to this topic and I can tell some of the lines

ZUR ER MARON DUREKAN

NOR ER 9 TAREKAN NSHANETSIN MAROIN TVIN CHOBAN KAROYIN.

I am not sure if you had read this story it is hearfelting story but also based on true life.

So what you saw on TV was the reallity.

Wow! Thanks for the Toomanian quote. This is a very difficult concept for me to grasp but I am starting to find out it was common place among many cultures. Amazing how society changes in like a 100 years ... I wonder what things will look like 100 years from now.

Here's the freaky part ... suppose they got married at 9 ... suppose they waited and had kids around 12. It would mean, that an 80-year old woman could actually be the GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDMOTHER of someone

Oh and even more strange would be that a 100-year old woman could have more than 1000 descendents alive! Then they would HAVE to celebrate on average around 3 birthdays a day everyday of the year!!!

Hi Seaphan

I know exacly what you mean. It is kind of hard to predict the future now but who knows. I personally think it is not right to make your kids get married at the age of 9 first of all they mental thinking is not ready to make family decions.
