Car (& 4WD) talk

Recommended Posts

My new babe is sparkling “white”. She is intelligent, sophisticated, elegant, attractive and tender. She is not pretentious. She loves to listen the same type of music that I do. She is cool (literally), she is calm, and she is fast and powerful. Besides all these she is not ‘high-maintenance’. She is rather modest but demanding and I treat her right.

She loves to go out with me early in the morning and late at night. She never says NO.

She is everything a man can dream about. I have the feeling that she is designed specially for me.

She has nothing Armenian in her, except when I’m inside her. She is Swedish…. her name is VOLVO S80 2.9!

Sorry to hear it Mosjan jan ... but at least you don't have to work in 20F :) I was working on the jeep for 2 days last few days and I am not sure if I have knuckles or fingers anymore :D

Question - what kind of winter tires are you using Sip, now that you're in snow country? I've got Yokohama Geolanders (4 season) on my car, and they're brand new - but i always use winter tires. I've just never had an AWD before, so I have to look into what's available and what's good. I hear positive things about the Toyos (G02) but they're a bit pricey around here. Besides not everything is available in this size: 225/65-16's...

I am running Goodyear MT/Rs on the jeep and BFG LTs on the blazer. I have also run BFG MTs and seen my brothers BFG AT/KO's in action. The BFG LT and AT/KOs are great on snow. The MTs and MT/Rs are excellent offroad but not that good on snow and ice.

I like the Goodyear MT/Rs because they stick to rocks like nothing else ... they have a really strong sidewall and are quite soft which makes them ideal for the kind of offroading I do.

As far as passenger car winter tires, I don't know much about them. But if I were to get a set of winter tires for all around good snow/ice performance as well as regular driving for a truck/SUV/jeep, I would definitely go with BFG AT/KOs.

You can also "sip" the tires (no pun intended) for much better snow/ice/wet traction but I've never done it myself (yet).

Wow no kidding Ed? NICE!!!

Vava, this website would probably do a better job in explaining than me. Basically they just cut a whole bunch of tiny slits in your tires which makes them perform much better in icy and wet conditions. I haven't done it myself but have been told by a couple of experts (in the tire business) that it is suposedly worth doing... so far, my tires have been just fine especially since I can always throw the blazer or the jeep into 4x4 :D

Haha ... I was actually just thinking about driving to big bear for x-mas (we always rent a cabin there with some friends) and then come down to LA ... I was planning to drive back after our x-mas on the 6th. But I will probably take the jeep so I can't tow anything :(

Edit: hmmmm ... but if you also find the tow vehicle for it, I might be able to drive it out for you if you want. I'll just then fly back. :)

It was in the beinning (mid 90's) ... but now every one of them has some sort of additional "attachment" :) The good thing is though since they started showing up, the air quality in the cabin has gotten MUUUUUUUUCH better. Before, sometimes your eyes would water from the really low air:fart ratio.
