Have we cleaned them out yet?

I, as a citizen of the USA am sorry and ashamed to say that our foreign policy is STUPID, dictated from telassviv and ankakara, based on fictitious stories of chemical weapons, we send our entire naval armada to the seas of Syria.

More power to Bashar Assad thumbing his big nose I hope he sinks all those ships to the bottom of Atlantis.NATO/ North ATLANTIS Treaty Organization. When did furkey become a North Atlantic Country like Norway and Sweden?

Damascus, (SANA) The Syrian Armed Forces did not use the chemical weapons as no country in the world would use the weapons of mass destruction against its own people, Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Walid al-Moallem, said on Tuesday.

Syria is committed to offering all facilitations and ensuring the safety of the UN inspection mission into chemical weapons use, al-Moallem added at a press conference in Damascus.

"Syria has immediately agreed to the UN requests and there was no delay, and I say to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry that we are not obstructing UN inspectors' work," Minister al-Moallem, added .

"I assure the residents of Damascus that the objective of the Armed Forces' military efforts taking place currently is to ensure their safety, so the endeavor will not be halted, and they {the West and the US} will not limit the Army's victory," the Foreign Minister said.

He added that what is circulated by the US administration's officials on the use of the chemical weapons is "categorically baseless", as we transparently dealt with the UN investigation mission and expressed commitment to reveal the truth.

The Foreign Minister said, "Since the beginning, we have doubted the U.S. intentions towards Geneva Conference, and we told our Russian friends we trust you but we do not trust the USA because it does not want a political solution and the reason is clear which is that Israel does not want this solution, but rather it wants the continuation of violence and terrorism."

Al-Moallem pointed out that U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, held a telephone conversation with him and asked for immediate access for the UN inspection mission into eastern Ghouta, adding that Kerry was told that work will be done in the framework of the Syrian national interests and the conversation ended friendly.

"We have agreed to offer all facilitations and to ensure the safety of the UN inspection mission into chemical weapons use. We stressed that we are committed to ensuring the safety of the mission in the areas under the control of the Syrian Armed Forces," the Foreign Minister said.

He noted that when the mission wanted to enter the area under the control of the armed terrorist groups, they were shot at and they could not continue their tour in these areas because the armed groups did not reach an agreement on their safety.

Al-Moallem said that the British Foreign Minister William Hague has accused the Syrian government of using chemical weapons against civilians and when the Syrian government agreed on allowing the inspectors to access the areas which allegedly witnessed the use of these weapons Cameron accused the Syrian Army of eliminating the trails of these weapons neglecting the fact that the Syrian forces cannot do so because these areas are under the control of the armed groups.

"If the countries which want to launch a military strike against Syria believe that such a strike will affect the military operations in the Ghouta, then these countries are mistaken," al-Moallem said, adding that "The military operations in al-Ghouta aim firstly at launching preemptive strike to the schemes of invading Damascus and secondly protecting the civilians in Damascus neighborhoods from the terrorist rockets launched by the terrorists."

On the Turkish stance and the statements of the Turkish foreign minister saying that Ankara will be part of the coalition that will fight Syria whether through or outside the Security Council, al-Moallem said "I do not want to comment on these statements but I am sure the friendly people of Turkey will do, the Turkish leadership has lost balance after the events in Egypt, this imbalance will aggravate because of Syria."

He stressed that Jordan will not benefit from a strike against Syria, adding that Syria has suffered a lot from the Jordanian side for the two and half past years and yet Damascus has not made any act against Jordan as it is keen on the safety of the Jordanian people.

He called upon the Jordanians not to allow other sides to extort the neighboring relations between the two countries, highlighting that the security of Jordan is linked to Syria's security.

Al-Moallem saw that the US and its allies launch military efforts firstly in the interest of Israel and secondly in the service of Jabhat al-Nusra in Syria, asserting that the military strike which they plan for will not affect the achievements of the Syrian Arab army.

"The Syrian army operations in al-Ghouta aim at directing preemptive strikes against the plots of the terrorist groups to attack Damascus and preventing the safe citizens in the capital from the terrorism of the mortar shells which daily fall in a number of neighborhoods," al-Moallem said.

On cancelling the meeting between Russia and the US which was due in The Hague, Foreign Minister said that Syria, since the beginning, doubted the US intentions on the international conference of Geneva, affirming that the postponement by the US side is a proof that it doesn't want any political solution.

As for the Russian Foreign Minister's comments yesterday on any possible aggression on Syria, Minister al-Moallem said "what would you expect of a Foreign Minister to say on this occasion, would he say that they have an interest to transport the global war into their lands."

Concerning the Syrian interaction on a possible strike, the Foreign Minister replied "basically, we didn't assert that there is an attack against Syria I said maybe it would be a psychological war."

Al-Moallem considered that today we live in an age which is nearer to the wild society, adding "they talk about an international law while they, themselves, violate it."

On the reason behind the timing of the strike and if any US of Israeli officers present in al-Ghouta, al-Moallem denied any information about this issue, and the timing of the strike was because of the victories of the Syrian army in al-Ghouta.

As for the massacre in Lattakia countryside by the armed terrorist groups against civilians and the silence of the UN Security Council regarding this issue, Foreign Minister said "we don't expect anything from the Security Council; nevertheless, we are now making legal documentation of Lattakia countryside massacres.

Al-Moallem said that the Syrian TV has screened a film showing experiments on the nerve weapon that took place in the Turkish lands with Turkish poisonous materials, adding that the film is existed, so, those who provide the armed terrorist groups with these materials are responsible for the crimes in Syria.

"Syria has asked the Russian friends to go to Khan al-Asal in Aleppo to document what has happened they really documented what happened there and took samples from the site and returned to Moscow, and then they submitted a documented report to the UN," Foreign Minister said.

On the investigating in Khan al-Asal, al-Moallem said that after 5-months of the Syrian complaint, the committee found that there was no need to go there and asked testimonies to come to Damascus, reminding that the delay of the committee was because of the French-British obstructions.

"The Syrian state is not a supervisor for the committee, but it provides them with security guarantees," al-Moallem said.

As for the observer mission's investigation into chemical material in Joubar, and if these materials were the evidence to which the Syrian government are talking about that they were used by the terrorists, al-Moallem clarified that this was part of the evidence in Joubar, adding "there is another part related to what has happened to the soldiers and the medical analyses run to them before being treated in the hospitals.

On hidden reports saying that the Syrian government has accepted to offer political concessions, through the Russian mediator, to the opposition abroad, al-Moallem said "there is no mediator between us and any other side, if they want to communicate with us, we will respond them as we didn't cut off the door of contacts with anyone, the Syrian government has a political program to which it is committed."

International pressure has been building for a military strike on Syria in the wake of an alleged chemical weapons attack in a Damascus suburb. The West has laid the blame at the feet of President Assad, as UN inspectors probe the site of the attack.

Tuesday, August 27

19:58 GMT: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry have discussed in detail the situation in Syria. The phone conversation was initiated by the American side, the Foreign Ministry said in statement published on its website.

Kerry voiced his stance about the alleged chemical attack, which, he stated, was based on information from reliable sources. He blamed the Assad government for the incidents where chemical weapons were used.

Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s position that conclusions should be based only on expert analysis. He underlined that the work of the group of UN investigators in Syria should get “maximum support.”

19:48 GMT: A top UN official visiting Iran for the past two days has urged it to help bring the warring sides of the Syrian conflict to the negotiating table in Geneva, said the UN.

Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman “shared the U.N. position that Iran, given its influence and leadership in the region, has an important role to play and a responsibility in helping to bring the Syrian parties to the negotiating table," said U.N. spokesman Farhan Haq.

Feltman discussed with Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, "the worsening situation on the ground in Syria, including the U.N.'s grave concerns about the potential use of chemical weapons and how the U.N. can work together with Iran and other states to end the bloodshed and suffering of the Syrian people."

18:28 GMT: French President Francois Hollande will meet with the head of Syria's main opposition group Ahmad al-Jarba on Thursday, said the presidency, AFP reported.

17:38 GMT:

17:35 GMT: US President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper have agreed that the use of chemical weapons in Syria deserved a “firm response” from the international community, a spokesman for Harper said in a statement.

“Both leaders agreed that significant use of chemical weapons merits a firm response from the international community in an effective and timely manner,” the statement read.

17:17 GMT: The US will release a public version of an intelligence report on chemical weapons use in Syria “in the coming days,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said. He added that the options the US government is considering “are not about regime change” in Syria, but will come as a response to the “violation of an international norm.”

“A decision about the use of military force has not been made. The president is reviewing his options, plural,” the White House spokesman said.

16:33 GMT: French President Francoise Hollande has announced he will hold a defense council meeting on Wednesday, and that he will brief the French parliament about it.

16:23 GMT: UK Prime Minister David Cameron has called for “specific” military action against Syria, saying the UK is not considering getting involved in a Middle East war.

Cameron said no decision has yet been taken on possible responses to the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria.

However, he added that the world “should not stay idly by,” following what he said was a chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime.

16:04 GMT: Britain “is not seeking to topple Assad,” UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg was quoted as saying by AFP.

“What we're considering is a serious response... What we're not considering is regime change, trying to topple the Assad regime, Clegg said

15:57 GMT: Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin has criticized the actions of Western countries in the Islamic world, amid reports of pressure building for a military strike against the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

“The West is behaving toward the Islamic world like a monkey with a grenade,” Rogozin wrote on his Twitter page, using a farcical Russian expression that describes something unpredictable and dangerous.

Rogozin is known for using colorful impromptu language on his Twitter account, which he started tweeting from when he was Russia’s ambassador to NATO in Brussels.

15:31 GMT: French President Francoise Hollande said France is “ready to punish” those behind the “chemical massacre” in Syria, and said that his government believes Damascus carried out the attack.

France is going to increase military support to the Syrian opposition, the president said, addressing foreign ambassadors in Paris.

“International law must evolve with the times... I recognize the responsibility to protect civilians,” Hollande was quoted as saying by France 24.

14:56 GMT: NATO supports the ongoing investigation of the UN inspectors, but will continue to closely monitor developments and review the evidence that is presented both by the UN and from “other sources,” a NATO official said in an e-mail statement to RT. NATO member countries are “deeply concerned by mounting evidence of the use of chemical weapons in Syria,” the official said, adding that NATO “has consistently expressed its grave concern about Syria’s chemical stockpiles and any possible use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime.”

14:44 GMT: US President Barack Obama has not yet made the decision to take military action against the Syrian government in response to the alleged chemical weapons attack, a senior White House administration official told Reuters.

14:39 GMT: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel is not involved in Syrian conflict, but would respond with force to any attacks coming from Syria.

“We are not a party to this civil war in Syria but if we identify any attempt to attack us we will respond and we will respond forcefully,” Netanyahu said after holding security consultations in Tel Aviv, adding that Israel is “prepared for any scenario.”

14:34 GMT: France's government believes that there is “no doubt” a chemical attack took place in Syria, and that President Assad’s forces were behind it, a diplomatic source told Reuters.

14:06 GMT: The Arab League said the perpetrators of last week’s attack in Syria should face international justice, and urged the UN to act. The League said in a statement it holds Syrian President Bashar Assad responsible for the alleged chemical attack near Damascus. The statement, which was issued after a meeting in Cairo, was pushed through with strong backing from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, diplomatic sources told Reuters.

13:46 GMT: A Russian cargo plane carrying humanitarian aid has landed in Syria, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said. The plane, which delivered some 20 tons of food aid to the Mediterranean port city of Latakia, will also evacuate 180 citizens of former Soviet countries “who have made clear a desire to leave the country,” including 100 Russians, the ministry added.

UK gathers warplanes, military hardware in Cyprus base near Syria – report

Published time: August 27, 2013 00:27

Edited time: August 27, 2013 16:28

“Warplanes and military transporters” have reportedly been moved to Britain’s Akrotiri airbase in Cyprus in the latest sign of the allied forces’ preparations for a military strike on Syria amid bellicose rhetoric against the Syrian government.

Two commercial pilots who regularly fly from Larnaca, Cyprus, claim to have spotted C-130 transport planes from their own aircraft and small formations of possibly European fighter jets from their radar screens, according to the Guardian.

Akrotiri airbase is less than 100 miles from Syria, making it a likely hub for a bombing campaign. Residents near the airfield confirmed to the Guardian that “activity there has been much higher than normal over the past 48 hours.”

The upsurge in flight activity has been denied by a spokesman for Britain's airbases in Cyprus, Reuters reported, also citing Cyprus’s Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides as saying that he doubted the airbases would be used if Western powers did take action against Syria.

I have the impression that the British bases won't play any primary role... because they are not needed, but we will have to see," Kasoulides told Cypriot state radio.

Downing Street says armed forces are drawing up contingency plans for military action in Syria, Reuters reported.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron on Tuesday recalled members of parliament from their summer break for an urgent discussion. The session is due to be held on Thursday to vote on a possible military response to the alleged chemical attack in Syria.

The Prime Minister said no decision has yet been taken on possible responses to the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria. Cameron has also called for “specific” military action against Syria, saying the UK is not considering getting involved in a Middle East war.

Meanwhile, top military officials from ten Western and Middle Eastern nations – led by US Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey and his Jordanian counterpart – met in Amman, Jordan, to discuss potential military action in Syria. This follows reports that Dempsey presented potential military options to the White House over the weekend.

On Friday, Reuters revealed the US Navy was expanding its Mediterranean presence with a fourth ship capable launching long-range, subsonic cruise missiles to reach land targets in Syria.

British military assets already near Syria include four warships, the Navy's flagship HMS Bulwark, a helicopter carrier and two frigates near Albania. Meanwhile France – another key player in the possible conflict – has its jet fighters stationed in the United Arab Emirates if needed.

On Tuesday French President Francoise Hollande vowed to increase military support to the Syrian opposition. He said France is “ready to punish” those behind the “chemical massacre” in Syria, adding that his government believes Damascus carried out the attack.

The Obama administration has little doubt the regime of Assad deployed chemical weapons on the outskirts of Damascus last week, killing hundreds, US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Monday.

Reports from Syria of chemical warfare “should shock the conscience of the world,” Kerry said, adding that the indiscriminate slaughter of women and children carried out by the Assad regime constitutes a “moral obscenity.”

President Barack Obama has yet to make a determination about how the US will respond, Kerry said, but a decision would be forthcoming.

US officials told the Washington Post late Monday such an attack would likely be limited to no more than a couple of days. According to the sources, determining when the attack would take place depends on an intelligence report on Syria’s culpability for the chemical attack, consultation with allies and the US Congress and a determination that an attack by US and its allies follows international law.

“While investigators are gathering additional information on the ground, our understanding of what has already happened in Syria is grounded in facts, informed by conscious and guided by common sense,” Sec. Kerry said. “The reported number of victims, the reported symptoms of those who were killed or injured, the first-hand accounts from the humanitarian organizations on the ground . . . these all strongly indicate that everything these images are already screaming at us are real: that chemical weapons were used in Syria.”

While top US officials hint at some unequivocal evidence implicating the Syrian government in the chemical attack, anonymous sources told NBC News late Monday the US is planning to release evidence as soon as Tuesday “to prepare the public for a possible military response.”

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday during a phone call with British Prime Minister David Cameron that there is no evidence such an attack had occurred. “President Putin said that they did not have evidence of whether a chemical weapons attack had taken place or who was responsible,” a British government spokesperson said after the meeting.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed during an emergency press conference in Moscow that the US, Britain and other countries have assembled a “powerful force” and are “readying their ships and planes” for a possible invasion in Syria.

http://rt.com/files/news/20/3b/b0/00/2.jpg

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov (RIA Novosti / Maxim Blinov)

“Official Washington, London and Paris say they have incontrovertible evidence that the Syrian government is behind the chemical attack in Damascus, but they have not yet presented this evidence,” Lavrov said, expressing particular outrage with the newly introduced possibility of NATO staging a strike on Syria without a United Nations mandate.

UN investigators were in the Damascus area Monday, taking samples from the site of Wednesday’s alleged chemical attack in an eastern suburb. The UN team was quickly forced to return to the government checkpoint to replace their car, which “was deliberately shot at multiple times by unidentified snipers in the buffer zone area," a spokesman for the UN secretary-general, Martin Nesirky, said.

The United Nations assured that it was still possible for the team of experts to gather necessary evidence despite the time elapsed since the alleged attack. Ban Ki-moon added that the UN will “register a strong complaint” to both the Syrian government and opposition forces as a result of the attack in an effort to stem future aggression against investigation teams.

Back in Washington, White House press Secretary Jay Carney weighed in with a statement of his own Monday, saying use of chemical weapons on a widespread scale outside of Damascus on August 21 was "undeniable."

“As Ban Ki-moon said last week, the UN investigation will not determine who used these chemical weapons, only whether such weapons were used – a judgment that is already clear to the world," Carney said, adding that it is “profoundly in the interest of the United States and the international community that that violation of an international norm be responded to.”

Further, neither Sec. Kerry nor Carney stated what countries agree or disagree with the American narrative of Assad’s alleged chemical attack. Carney did say the president is seeking guidance from members of the US Congress on using force against Syria.

Pursuant to the War Powers Resolution, passed in the US in 1973, use of military force is limited to instances when a formal declaration of war has been declared, specific statutory authorization is granted or during a national emergency. Without immediate congressional approval, the President can commit troops without a declaration of war. In that case, the President must submit a report to Congress on the details of that action. Then after the 60-day period, Congress must approve further action, though the War Powers Resolution has been violated by US presidents in the past. The White House posited in 2011 that US military action without congressional approval in Libya did not violate the War Powers Resolution based on US forces’ supposed limited role in the NATO-led campaign.

While western forces appear ready for possible military action against Syria, Obama said in an interview Friday the United States should be wary of “being drawn into very expensive, difficult, costly interventions that actually breed more resentment in the region.”

Obama went on to express reservations for becoming involved in the 30-month Syrian conflict due to a lack of international consensus.

"If the US goes in and attacks another country without a UN mandate and without clear evidence that can be presented, then there are questions in terms of whether international law supports it, [and] do we have the coalition to make it work?” said Obama.

US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel confirmed late last week that US military forces are preparing for the possibility that President Obama would order a strike.

"The Defense Department has a responsibility to provide the president with options for contingencies, and that requires positioning our forces, positioning our assets, to be able to carry out different options — whatever options the president might choose," Hagel said Friday, adding a decision must be made quickly given “there may be another (chemical) attack.”

How the West is Helping to Destroy Christianity in Syria

August 26, 2013 11:18 PM

Source: Alfred the Great Society | Robin Phillips

Syrian Christianity goes back to the earliest days of the Christian faith, with language, traditions and practices that have remained largely unchanged since the time of Christ. Despite popular misconceptions, the nation of Syria is not an Islamic state. The Christian population living in Syria has enjoyed a measure of stability under the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad. This tenuous stability is now being undermined by Islamic rebels who, supported by Western powers, are attempting to overthrow the government and destroy the native Christian population.

Christianity in Syria

Not long after Christ’s ascension, the church at Jerusalem was scattered following Stephen’s martyrdom (Acts 11:19). Many Christians fled to Antioch in modern day Turkey, where Barnabas was later sent to check on the church (Acts 11:22-27). Barnabas found that the gospel had taken deep root in Antioch, as evidenced by the fact that it was here that the disciples were first called Christians (Acts 11:26). The city of Antioch became a thriving centre of Mediterranean Christianity and one of the five major Apostolic sees (the others being Jerusalem, Constantinople, Rome and Alexandria).

As a centre of apostolic Christianity, the Antiochian church sent missionaries throughout all of Asia Minor. It was from these missionaries that the gospel was reinforced in Syria. Partly because of this, the largest grouping Christians living in Syria call themselves Antiochian (the official title of their church is the ‘Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch’).

Christianity flourished so much in Syria that when the Ottomans invaded Antioch in the 14th century, the Antiochian church moved its headquarters from Antioch to Damascus in Syria. Damascus was also a stronghold of ancient Christianity since the earliest days. In fact, it was because the church at Damascus was thriving that Saul, later the Apostle Paul, decided to travel there to persecute the Christians of the city, prior to his miraculous conversion experience on the Damascus road.

The Damascus-based Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch (or the ‘Antiochian Orthodox church’ for short) has one million members in Syria, with worship and practice that has remained relatively unchanged since the early days of the Apostle’s successors. An interesting testament to this is the fact that it is only among Christian communities in Syria that Aramaic, the language in which Jesus spoke, still survives as a living tongue.

More recently, missionaries and immigrants from the Middle East have spread the traditions and practices of the Antiochian church throughout the world, giving millions of Christians a chance to connect with some of the oldest Christian prayers and practices. The church in Syria is thus responsible for 2 million Christians worldwide, including many in America. (My own family attends the Damascus-based Antiochian Orthodox Church, which was planted in our village by a missionary priest.)

Syria also has a strong presence of Christians from other traditions, including the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, the Oriental Syriac Orthodox Church, the Assyrian church of the East, the Chaldean Catholic Church and a minority of various Protestant groups.

Back in the 1920s Christians made up as much as 30% of Syria’s population, but throughout the 20th century they were subject to fierce persecution. The Christian population in Syria now amounts to about 10% of the total population.

The church in Syria came to enjoy relative stability under the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad’s family, who have ruled Syria since 1971. al-Assad has never insisted that Islam be the nation’s state religion, although the constitution requires the President to be a Muslim. For many years Syria has been looked upon as a safe haven for Christians, and thousands of Iraqi Christians recently fled to Syria to escape the persecution in their homeland in the wake of Western intervention.

Recent Challenges

The equilibrium in Syria began to be disrupted after the, so called, ‘Arab Spring’ hit the country in 2011. Rebel groups, many of whom have links to Al-Qaeda, began seeking to overthrow the government. Syria’s Christian population became engulfed in the crossfire of this civil war. Because most Christians in Syria have remained neutral in the two-year civil war and some have supported the government, the insurgents with the ‘Free Syrian Army’ perceive Christians as enemies. Consequently, they have begun systematically confiscating land belonging to Christians, in addition raping women and killing children. Dozens of churches have also been desecrated or completely destroyed, mainly around Homs and Aleppo.

Astoundingly, the anti-government ‘Free Syrian Army’ is considered moderate by the West and is supported by the David Cameron, the Obama administration, NATO and the EU.

In March the New York Times reported that the America’s Central Intelligence Agency had expanded an airlift of arms and equipment to insurgent militants that had been occurring since early 2012, totalling around 3,500 tons of military equipment in total. This coincided with a series of rebel victories. America has kept up the momentum, and last month Ben Rhodes, U.S. deputy national security adviser, revealed that America was stepping up the assistance it was giving to rebel groups, hoping to finally tip the balance to help the insurgents overthrow al-Assad’s government. The announcement coincided with the emergence of new lethal weapons in the hands of rebel forces.

If the rebels do succeed in overthrowing the government, the worst case scenario could be a repeat of what happened in Yugoslavia during the late 90s, after Western troops supported Islamic Albanian rebel groups seeking to overthrow the government. Once the Muslim rebel groups had successfully separated from the lawful Yugoslavian government based on Serbia, they formed the, so called, Republic of Kosovo. Christians living in Kosovo were then targeted for destruction and sacred monasteries that were hundreds of years old were levelled to the ground.

This pattern is being repeated in Syria as Muslim rebel groups seek both to overthrow the lawful government as well as to eliminate the native Christian population. Consequently, Christians in Syria are frightened to worship publicly and many have had to flee to refugee camps in neighbouring countries

‘Disproportionate Violence and abuse’

A special ‘Vulnerability Assessment’ report conducted by the World Watch unit of Open Doors International from June 2013 warned that Syrian Christians are the victims of “disproportionate violence and abuse.” They warned further that Christian women in Syria are particularly vulnerable to sexual abuse.

There is a sad irony here. The intervention of American and Britain in Iraq resulted in a hard-line Islamic takeover and the eviction or extermination of the native Christians living in Iraq. Many Iraqi Christians died, while countless others fled to Syria where they thought they would be safe. And now Western powers are seeking to empower the very forces that are persecuting the Christian population in Syria.

Metropolitan Hilarion, the chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Moscow, lamented that “in those places where the authorities are replaced by the rebel groups, Christianity is being exterminated to the last man: Christians are expelled, or physically destroyed.

He recalled that “Syria has taken more than two million Iraqi refugees, thousands of whom are Christians.” But now the Metroplitain says “thousands of militant extremists under the guise of opposition forces unleashed a civil war in this country. Extremist groups armed and trained by means of foreign powers are deliberately killing Christians.”

Rebel Groups Kidnap Archbishop

http://www.aoiusa.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/pic-2.pngThe situation in Syria reached crisis proportions last April when insurgents groups kidnapped two Archbishops who were on their way back to Aleppo after accomplishing a humanitarian mission. The two church leaders (Yohanna Ibrahim, archbishop of the Syriac Orthodox church and Paul Yazigi, Metropolitan of the Antiochian Orthodox church) had been traveling outside the besieged northern city of Aleppo in an effort to provide aid and comfort to war-torn regions and to negotiate the release of two priests. Their driver, a church deacon, was shot dead and the two archbishops were abducted at gunpoint. As of writing this article, the whereabouts and condition of the clerics remain unknown.

Unfortunately, this high-profile kidnapping is only the tip of the iceberg. Writing in The Huffington Post this April, Hieromonk Peter Preble observed that “Since the war began in March of 2011, more than 70,000 people have died. A February estimate places the internally displaced at 3.6 million, and an additional 1.3 million have been forced to flee Syria for neighboring countries as refugees, all the while the government of the United States continues to support the very people responsible for the killing.”

Rebels target monasteries

Ancient Christian monasteries are being regularly plundered in Syria by anti-government forces. In May of this year, rebels attacked the 1500-year-old monastery of the Prophet Elijah near the city of Al-Qusayr. They stole the sacramental vessels, destroyed the altar and the baptismal font, blew up the bell tower, and knocked down the sacred statue of Elijah.

On June 23, a Syrian Catholic priest was murdered in a monastery in Gassanieh, Idlib. François Murad, 49, was a member of the Franciscans and lived a life of prayer at the monastery. Gunmen entered the monastery, plundered it, burned the building and executed Murad. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the head of all Franciscans in the Holy Land, told the Vatican News Agency that “The world must know that the support of gunmen by the west is helping extremists in killing Syrians.”

Christian Villages Completely Destroyed

On 27 May this year, the ‘Free Syrian Army’ raided the Christian-populated village of al-Duvair in Syria’s Western province of Homs. Arriving in the village they proceeded to massacre all its civilian residents, including women and children. The army of the Syrian government intervened to protect the Christians, but only after most of the population had been slaughtered.

On 11 June, a massacre was reported in the town of Hatlah, close to Deir el-Zour city. An organisation of armed militants converged on the town to ‘cleanse’ it. At least 60 people were slaughtered.

In other Christian villages, rebels have suddenly appeared and declared, “Flee or be killed.” With nowhere to go and little hope of finding employment, thousands of Christian families face little prospect of a hopeful future. Many have fled to refugee camps, though conditions there are little better since they make “soft targets” for criminals and Islamic thugs.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, issued a stinging rebuke to David Cameron’s naïve support of Syrian rebels. He warned that as Britain supplies rebels with weaponry, they will have no means of preventing those weapons ending up in the hands of “al Qaida-affliated thugs” associated with government opposition. As an example of the radical Islam of the rebels, Mr Johnson described an incident in Aleppo where a 15-year-old boy was taken away and beaten and then summarily executed by Islamist rebels for making a joking reference to the Prophet Mohammed.

In an article for the Daily Telegraph, Mr Johnson joined other prominent spokespeople, including the Archbishop of York, in warning the British Government not to meddle in the Syrian crisis.

“Odious, twisted, hate-filled thugs; arrogant and inadequate creeps, intoxicated by the pathetic illusion of power that comes with guns; poisoned by a perversion of religion into a contempt for all norms of civilised behaviour,” the London Mayor wrote.

He continued “They are fighting not for freedom but for a terrifying Islamic state in which they would have the whip hand – and yet there is no dodging or fudging the matter: these are among the Syrian rebels who are hoping now to benefit from the flow of Western arms.

“How is it supposed to work? How are we meant to furnish machine guns and anti-tank weapons to one set of opposition forces, without them ending up in the hands of men like the al Qaida-affiliated thugs who executed a child for telling a joke?

“This is not the moment to send more arms. This is the moment for a total ceasefire, an end to the madness.

“We can’t use Syria as an arena for geopolitical point-scoring or muscle-flexing, and we won’t get a ceasefire by pressing weapons into the hands of maniacs.”

Boris Johnson is not alone. Tory backbencher Julian Lewis said that Britain’s involvement could be “suicidal” leading to extremist elements among the rebels gaining control of the regime’s arsenal of chemical weapons.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, has also warned that arming the rebels is “very, very naïve.”

Supporting the Wrong Side

A problem with American and Britain involving itself in Syria’s conflict, apart from the fact that it is none of their business, is the simple fact the Western powers have chosen to support the wrong side. No one is claiming that al-Assad’s authoritarian government has been godly; however, the prospect of what might emerge if his government is overthrown is almost unthinkable. Yonadam Kanna, a member of the Iraqi National Assembly and Secretary General for the Assyrian Democratic Movement warned that the collapse of the Syrian state would be a jihadist triumph and endanger Christians throughout the entire Middle East. We must pray that this does not happen and that the Lord would grant special protection to Christians living in Syria. We must also pray for those Syrian Christians who have had to flee to refugee camps in Turkey and Lebanon.

Even those Syrian Christians who have not had to flee are suffering acutely from the conditions of the civil war. There is a shortage of basic supplies, including gas, electricity, food and many basic supermarket products. Moreover, dangerous criminals are always too ready to take advantage of the chaos and plunder the houses and shops of innocent people.

CNN just a couple of months ago confirmed that contractors hired by the Pentagon were in fact training the terrorists in the use of chemical weapons.

And now we have a statement by a United Nations Independent Commission, which has confirmed unequivocally – and it was revealed on the same day – that the terrorists who are backed by the United States and its allies, they are in possession of deadly sarin nerve gas, which they are using against the civilian population.”

Press TV has conducted an interview with Michael Chossudovsky, Center for Research on Globalization, Montreal about the statement made by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that Syria is able to face Israel.

The following is an approximate transcript of the interview.

Press TV:

Bashar al-Assad has said Syria is capable of facing Israel. Just how much do you think there will be a military confrontation between Damascus and Tel Aviv and which do you think can overcome the other?

Chossudovsky:

Let me first address the statement of Secretary of State John Kerry. The United States was involved in the decision to bomb Syria. This was not strictly an act of aggression on the part of Israel acting on its own. It was an act of aggression, which was approved by the United States, namely the Pentagon as well as NATO. It is an act of aggression and a violation of international law.

When Secretary of State John Kerry says we need to reach a solution and presents himself as a mediator, we are in effect in a dead alley because “an aggressor” presenting himself as “a mediator” is a non-sequitur.

You can’t on the one hand support an armed insurrection of Al Qaeda terrorists against the Syrian government –provide them with chemical weapons and give them funding — and at the same time present yourself as a mediator.

In fact, CNN just a couple of months ago confirmed that contractors hired by the Pentagon were in fact training the terrorists in the use of chemical weapons.

And now we have a statement by a United Nations Independent Commission, which has confirmed unequivocally – and it was revealed on the same day – that the terrorists who are backed by the United States and its allies, are in possession of deadly sarin nerve gas, which they are using against the civilian population. So, we can talk about reaching a peaceful solution, but the issue is about those who are acting as self proclaimed mediators including Secretary of State John Kerry and I should also say Ban Ki-moon because the Secretary General of the United Nations has called on all sides to exercise maximum restraint.

The U.S. is an aggressor, financing and supporting the opposition terrorists as well as the Israeli bombings.

There was absolutely no word of condemnation uttered by the United Nations Security Council, Secretary General of the United Nations against Israel’s attack on Syria and neither has there been a position taken by the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.

Vladimir Putin warned (that was yesterday) that further Israeli attacks on Damascus would not be tolerated; he also intimated (and this is something that we know) that Syria has an advanced air defense system – namely the S300 and various other weapons capabilities, and they are therefore able to strike back.

However, we are at a very dangerous crossroads because anything could happen and this could ultimately lead us into a regional war in which other countries would inevitably be involved in the conflict.

Factual Proof that the US Sponsored Al Qaeda Terrorists were trained by the Pentagon in the US of chemical weapons

Ironically, when the chemical weapons pretext was first launched by the Pentagon in August 2012, the accusations were not directed against President Bashar al Assad to the effect that he was underhandedly conniving to use WMD against Syrian civilians. Quite the opposite. According to the Pentagon, the operation was to ensure that Syria’s WMDs, which allegedly had been “left unguarded” in military bunkers around the country would not fall in the hands of opposition jihadist rebels who are fighting government forces:

Pentagon planners are more focused on protecting or destroying any Syrian stockpiles that are left unguarded and at risk [of] falling into the hands of rebel fighters or militias aligned with Al Qaeda, Hezbollah or other militant groups. ( U.S. has plans in place to secure Syria chemical arms – latimes.com, August 22, 2012

What the Pentagon was saying in August 2012, is that these WMD could fall in the hands of the “pro-democracy” Al Qaeda rebels recruited and financed by several of America’s close allies including Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, in liaison with Washington and NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Training in Use of Chemical Weapons confirmed by CNN

In a twisted logic, the Pentagon was to ensure that the rebels aligned with Al Qaeda would not acquire or use WMD, by actually training them in the use of chemical weapons:

The training [in chemical weapons], which is taking place in Jordan and Turkey, involves how to monitor and secure stockpiles and handle weapons sites and materials, according to the sources. Some of the contractors are on the ground in Syria working with the rebels to monitor some of the sites, according to one of the officials.

The nationality of the trainers was not disclosed, though the officials cautioned against assuming all are American. (CNN, December 09, 2012, emphasis added

And once these Al Qaeda rebels had been supplied and trained in the use of WMDs by military contractors hired by the Pentagon, the Syrian government would then be held responsible for using the WMD against the Syrian people.

What is unfolding is a diabolical scenario –which is an integral part of military planning– namely a situation where opposition terrorists advised by Western defense contractors are actually in possession of chemical weapons.http://static.skynetblogs.be/media/41490/2001195741.jpgThis is not a rebel training exercise in non-proliferation. While president Obama states that “you will be held accountable” if “you” (meaning the Syrian government) use chemical weapons, what is contemplated as part of this covert operation is the possession of chemical weapons by the US-NATO sponsored terrorists, namely “by our” Al Qaeda affiliated operatives, including the Al Nusra Front (see image on right), which constitutes the most effective Western financed and trained fighting group, largely integrated by foreign mercenaries. In a bitter twist, Jabhat al-Nusra, a US sponsored “intelligence asset”, was recently put on the State Department’s list of terrorist organizations.

The West claims that it is coming to the rescue of the Syrian people, whose lives are allegedly threatened by Bashar Al Assad. The truth of the matter is that the Western military alliance is not only supporting the terrorists, including the Al Nusra Front, it is also making chemical weapons available to its proxy “opposition” rebel forces.

The next phase of this diabolical scenario is that the chemical weapons in the hands of Al Qaeda operatives will be used against civilians, which could potentially lead an entire nation into a humanitarian disaster.

The broader issue is: who is a threat to the Syrian people? The Syrian government of Bashar al Assad or the US-NATO-Israel military alliance which is recruting and training “opposition” terrorist forces, which are now trained in the use and in possession of chemical weapons

“urgent action memorandum” issued today from the office of President Putin to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is ordering a “massive military strike” against Saudi Arabia in the event that the West attacks Syria.

According to Kremlin sources familiar with this extraordinary “war order,” Putin became “enraged” after his early August meeting with Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan who warned that if Russia did not accept the defeat of Syria, Saudi Arabia would unleash Chechen terrorists under their control to cause mass death and chaos during the Winter Olympics scheduled to be held 7-23 February 2014 in Sochi, Russia.

Lebanese newspaper As-Safir confirmed this amazing threat against Russia saying that Prince Bandar pledged to safeguard Russia’s naval base in Syria if the Assad regime is toppled, but he also hinted at Chechen terrorist attacks on Russia’s Winter Olympics in Sochi if there is no accord by stating: “I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us.”

http://www.whatdoesitmean.com/wwz2.jpg

Prince Bandar went on to say that Chechens operating in Syria were a pressure tool that could be switched on an off. “These groups do not scare us. We use them in the face of the Syrian regime but they will have no role in Syria’s political future.”

London’s The Telegraph News Service further reported today that Saudi Arabia has secretly offered Russia a sweeping deal to control the global oil market and safeguard Russia’s gas contracts, if the Kremlin backs away from the Assad regime in Syria, an offer Putin replied to by saying “Our stance on Assad will never change. We believe that the Syrian regime is the best speaker on behalf of the Syrian people, and not those liver eaters” [Putin said referring to footage showing a Jihadist rebel eating the heart and liver of a Syrian soldier HERE], and which Prince Bandar in turn warned that there can be “no escape from the military option” if Russia declines the olive branch.

Critical to note, and as we had previously reported on in our 28 January 2013 report “Obama Plan For World War III Stuns Russia,” the Federal Security Services (FSB) confirmed the validity of the released hacked emails of the British based defence company, Britam Defence that stunningly warned the Obama regime was preparing to unleash a series of attacks against both Syria and Iran in a move Russian intelligence experts warned could very well cause World War III.

According to this FSB report, Britam Defence, one of the largest private mercenary forces in the world, was the target of a “massive hack” of its computer files by an “unknown state sponsored entity” this past January who then released a number of critical emails between its top two executives, founder Philip Doughty and his Business Development Director David Goulding.

The two most concerning emails between Doughty and Goulding, this report says, states that the Obama regime has approved a “false flag” attack in Syria using chemical weapons, and that Britam has been approved to participate in the West’s warn on Iran, and as we can read:

Email 1: Phil, We’ve got a new offer. It’s about Syria again. Qataris propose an attractive deal and swear that the idea is approved by Washington. We’ll have to deliver a CW (chemical weapon) to Homs (Syria), a Soviet origin g-shell from Libya similar to those that Assad should have. They want us to deploy our Ukrainian personnel that should speak Russian and make a video record. Frankly, I don’t think it’s a good idea but the sums proposed are enormous. Your opinion? Kind regards David

Email 2: Phil, Please see attached details of preparatory measures concerning the Iranian issue. Participation of Britam in the operation is confirmed by the Saudis.

With the events now spiraling out of control in Syria, and London’s Independent News Service now reporting that Prince Bandar is “pushing for war,” Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich further warned the West today by stating, “Attempts to bypass the Security Council, once again to create artificial groundless excuses for a military intervention in the region are fraught with new suffering in Syria and catastrophic consequences for other countries of the Middle East and North Africa.

Heedless of Russian warnings which have fallen on deaf ears, however, British Prime Minister David Cameron this morning recalled the British Parliament to vote on attacking Syria as the Obama regime abruptly cancelled their meeting with Russia scheduled for tomorrow on finding a path to peace for Syria, and the West begins its plans to attack the Syrian nation “within days.”

As Syria itself has warned that should it be attacked by the West there will be “global chaos,” the Western peoples themselves have not been told of the fact that on 17 May 2013, Putin ordered Russian military forces to “immediately move” from Local War to Regional War operational status and to be “fully prepared” to expand to Large-Scale War should either the US or EU enter into the Syrian Civil War, a situation they are still in at this very hour.

With Putin’s previous order, and as we had reported on in our 17 May report “Russia Issues “All-Out War” Alert Over Syria,” and now combined with his new ordering of massive retaliatory strikes against Saudi Arabia, any attack on Syria is viewed by Russia as being an attack on itself.

And as we had previously explained in great detail, the fight over Syria, being led by Saudi Arabia and Qatar and their lap-dog Western allies, has but one single objective: To break Russia’s hold on the European Union natural gas market which a pipeline through Syria would accomplish, and as reported by London’s Financial Times News Service this past June:

The tiny gas-rich state of Qatar has spent as much as $3bn over the past two years supporting the rebellion in Syria, far exceeding any other government, but is now being nudged aside by Saudi Arabia as the prime source of arms to rebels.

The cost of Qatar’s intervention, its latest push to back an Arab revolt, amounts to a fraction of its international investment portfolio. But its financial support for the revolution that has turned into a vicious civil war dramatically overshadows western backing for the opposition.

Qatar [also] has proposed a gas pipeline from the Gulf to Turkey in a sign the emirate is considering a further expansion of exports from the world’s biggest gasfield after it finishes an ambitious programme to more than double its capacity to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG).”

And in what is, perhaps, the most unimaginable cause to start World War III over Syria was noted by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Aleksandr Lukashevich who said this past week: “We’re getting more new evidence that this criminal act was of a provocative nature,” he stressed. “In particular, there are reports circulating on the Internet, in particular that the materials of the incident and accusations against government troops had been posted for several hours before the so-called attack. Thus, it was a pre-planned action.”

For the West to have so sloppily engineered yet another “false flag” attack to justify a war where they posted the videos of this so-called chemical weapons attack a full day before it was said to occur is the height of arrogance and disdain, but which their sleep-walking citizens, yet again, will fall for as they have done so many times in the past.

A video report from May 15th shows the actions of the kinds of people who Senators Rubio, McCain and Graham are sending American taxpayer money to support. A Syrian rebel soldier cuts out the heart and liver of a soldier and appears to eat the heart chanting ”I swear to God we will eat your hearts out, you soldiers of Bashar. You dogs. God is greater!” the man says. “Heroes of Baba Amr … we will take out their hearts to eat them.”

AVIGDOR ESKIN: THE USA WILL INFLICT SEVERAL BLOWS UPON SYRIA, BUT ISRAEL WILL BE FORCED TO CLEAR UP CONSEQUENCES
by Ashot Safaryan

ARMINFO
Wednesday, August 28, 13:32

The USA will inflict several blows upon Syria, but Israel will be
forced to clear up consequences, the known Israeli political expert,
Avigdor Eskin told ArmInfo correspondent.

"The Americans made many mistakes in our region, They act massively
and inaptly. And they cannot learn from mistakes", Eskin said. He did
not rule out the situation when Moscow may refuse resolute actions
for protection of Syrian President Bashar Asad. The reason of such
fear is the statement by Minister Lavrov that Russia is not going to
start a war with anybody because of Syria. At the same time, the expert
thinks that much will depend on the atmosphere in the world in general.

As for using of chemical weapon against civilians in one the districts
of Damascus, the expert said he will be very much surprised to
hear that Asad ordered to use non-conventional weapon. "I would
like to recall that chemical weapon was already used in Syria three
months ago. That time the Israeli intelligence service proved that
the opposition but not the ruling regime used chemical weapon", -
Eskin said.

At the same time, maybe this time somebody from Asad's surrounding made
such a step trying to frighten rebels. One should remember that chaos
reigns in the country and the president cannot absolutely control the
situation. "This is very much dangerous, as mass destruction weapon may
be in the hands of bad men from "Hamas" or their counterparts from the
North Caucasus, which have been dreaming to use this chemical weapon
in the Moscow Metro. It is no secret, that a regiment consisting of
Russian citizens has been acting on the side of the opposition", -
the expert said.

He also added that if to suppose that President Asad did not order
to use chemical weapon, and this is provocation by the rebels,
nevertheless, Syrian authorities are also blamed for its using. "As
they did not manage to save mass destruction weapon to find itself
in the hands of rebels. And the government of Syria is responsible
for that. Now imagine what winds we shall have in the Middle East if
Iran as well owns nuclear weapon. I am not jealous of the Armenians
like neighbors of Iran", - an Israeli expert said.

SYRIA DEVELOPMENTS MAY PROVE ALL-ARMENIAN TRAGEDY - EXPERT

20:28 28.08.13

In an interview with Tert.am Chairman of the Political Scientists
Union of Armenia Hmayak Hovannisyan shared his opinion of the impact
the US invasion of Syria and related development may have on the
region and on Armenia.

Commenting on Armenian former deputy FM Arman Navasardyan's opinion
that the Syria problem may have serious consequences for the other
regional countries, Hovhannisyan said that Navasardyan was Armenian
ambassador to Syria and is well informed.

"I share the opinion that the expected developments can have
far-reaching consequences and destabilize the region. They are most
dangerous for the South Caucasus countries. The developments may have
a knock-on effect on our neighbors - Iran, Turkey and Iraq. Moreover,
Iran, which is Syria's ally supporting Bashar Assad, may be directly
drawn into the hostilities," Hovannisyan said.

As regards threats to Armenia, the expert believes that the war in
Syria may have its impact on Lebanon, with its Armenian community. It
may prove to be a second blow, because Hezbollah is based in Lebanon.

And if Lebanon is drawn into this destabilization process - and is
actually is - hostilities may break out develop there as well. The
Armenian community in Syria has, in fact, broken up because of the
tragedy, and the Armenian community in Lebanon may share the fate. It
will prove to be an all-Armenian tragedy.

"This is a serious challenge for Armenia as the Homeland of all
Armenians. Our interests are directly involved," Hovannisyan said.

With respect to Russia's statement on non-interference, the expert
said that "The Izvestia is a serious newspaper that published Bashar
Assad's article. The newspaper is a mouthpiece of Russia's authorities,
and Assad presents his stance - determined resistance to any external
interference."

On the other hand, Russian FM Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia has no
intention to interfere. He calls on western nations not to interfere
as well.

Hovannisyan still hopes because the Pentagon clearly stated that
interference is only possible with US President Barack Obama's
consent. The expert thinks that the US president will not make that
step. He is a Nobel peace prize winner after all.

"Let us not forget that, according to poll results, only nine percent
of US citizens support foreign interference in Syria's affairs,
whereas 60% of them supported actions against Iraq. In any case,
it may have most serious consequences not only for Armenians, but
also for all the peoples in the region," Hovannisyan said.

We are so impatiently waiting. No! We're not!

When will it happen? Before or after telassviv attacks Tehran?

Among many news about the naval buildups at the Syrian shores

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/08/29/us-syria-crisis-russia-navy-idUSBRE97S0AK20130829

(Reuters) - Russia is sending two warships to the east Mediterranean, Interfax news agency said on Thursday, but Moscow denied this meant it was beefing up its naval force there as Western powers prepare for military action against Syria.

Will this be another dejavu of 1917 when the cowardly Russians abandoned Moush and Sassoun and ran home with their tails between their legs?

Where do the Russian ships ennter the Mediterranean, via the furkish sea Marmara. Bosphorus or Sevan?
