The Certainty of Afterlife

There are many people on this Earth who say they are strong Christians (or other religions fot the matter). They are convinced in what they believe and don't leave any room for arguments and discussions. Some are just very spiritual people who are very dedicated in their beliefs and they should be commended. Others are fanatics. Many of these people live terrible lives on Earth due to a variety of circumstances. Yet they still prefer to live than die. Even though in their minds they are 100% sure they are going to Heaven, they would still run if someone was to shoot at them. And their concept of Heaven is very well developed, and they look at it as a perfect place. This does not compare to their lives on Earth, much less their impoverished lives on Earth.

I know this sounds stupid but why would someone in such a situation prefer to live than die? Why would someone prefer to suffer greatly on Earth rather than live spiritually in Heaven?

This is what I think and I welcome any different comments/theories/ideas (it is not as if I'm convinced of what I'm about to say). I think that no matter how big the believer, deep down inside, perhaps even subconsciously, there is a certain degree of uncertainty in all of us (in some greater than others). I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing.

I know this is a very controversial topic and I don't want to offend/provoke anyone. I just can't help wander and I'm curious. I welcome anyone's different point of view, as I am not convinced. My only reason for this posting is to hear different opinions.

I fully agree with you Btac. I also share your thoughts and have 'those' little questions which stay in the air.

"The Gift of Life" should be the answer to our question. If life is conceived as a gift of God to us, then we have to protect and love it. In doing so we are somehow showing our gratitude to God for His gift. After all the life we have is a temporal stage , which we have to go through before any 'life after death' stage.

I know it is not a great answer, but it has 'worked' for thousands of years and I guess this can be taken as a thought.

BTac,

Once I read somewhere that we (the humans) are collectors of experience (on the Earth) for something bigger than us which is being fed by the positive energy of that experience we get on the Earth. This thought interested me a lot.
