Yervant1
The phenomena is called Colony Collapse Disorder, and it has spread pretty much across most of North America, and has already been seen in parts of Europe. Reported cases here in Canada, some beekeepers have lost more than 50% of their bee colonies. This is significant as bees are significantly responsible for the pollination of crops - no bees and life gets much harder for the farmers (and more expensive for you and me). Various theories blame neonicotinoid pesticides (which are banned in some parts of Europe but still used here), genetically modified crops, or even mobile phone radiation as root causes - but mostly this is speculative. You can find out more here or at the USDA library Vava Jan I watched a report on TV they are suspecting that their (Bees) navigation system is damaged due to pestisides, therefore unable to come back to their hives. Anoushik
I’m going to put this in layman’s terms so that no one gets confused. Well, there are a lot of different scenarios to consider when you talk about sugar and your body. First think about fruit sugar... Zara jan, thank you for the information. I didn't know that about sugar before but looking at my own eating habits I have to say that it makes a lot of sense. I only drink water when I'm thirsty because I know that drinking anything else will not satisfy my thirst. I thought I was the only one and that it was a personal preference, but reading the information you've posted apparently it's all because of the sugar in the drinks. Em
I can't believe I'm asking this here but, does anyone here like eating meat? Do you know why? Promise I won't say anything terrible. I know what you're going to say!
Anoushik
Well Zara? Are you going to say why people like eating meat? Unlike Em, I don't know what you're going to say!

Zara
I know what you're going to say! You probably do. At least most of it. Well Zara? Are you going to say why people like eating meat? Unlike Em, I don't know what you're going to say! Le’ me ‘splain you. Here are some things to consider. One thing I want to clear up first is why people like sugar. Notice, I’m not saying carbohydrates. Sugar means a fruit is ripe. When a fruit is ripe it is at its nutritional peak and the best thing for you to eat. That’s also when it starts smelling sweet. Why do you think strawberries smell so good when they’re ripe? But why does it smell so nice? That’s the tree telling you that the seeds are fully developed and that you should eat the fruit to spread them. Yes, the tree tricks or, in this case, seduces you as much as it can and uses you for its final stages of reproduction. That’s just how it works and you’re hard-wired to comply. People crave sugar, not carbs in general. People don’t crave celery or lettuce. It doesn’t even smell good, look attractive, or taste very good. What are the two things your body loves the most? What does your body constantly crave? Sugar and fat. Why do you think ice cream or churro's taste so good? or French fries? Sugar and fat. Your body converts carbohydrates into energy first. Then, when all the carbs. have been used up, your body burns off fat. The last thing your body uses, after all of the fat is burned is protein. When that's all said and done, your body resorts to cannibalism and burns off muscle tissue. So, what does your body need the least of? Protein. You don’t like meat because of protein. Get a slab of fatless meat, hang it until all the blood drips out, boil it and eat it. It doesn’t taste like much. In fact, it’s like a dry piece of leather and it’s difficult to swallow. The reason why people like meat so much is because of animal fat. It's a direct source of fat, which is very useful for survival. When people didn't have weapons to kill animals what did they use? Nothing. They were opportunistic meat eaters. Kind of like scavengers, except they didn't have the stomach to kill harmful bacteria. This means that, when people were primitive, they would eat raw meat and suck out bone marrow from very recently killed animals to ingest their body fat. That fat was the difference between life and death in times when there wasn't enough food due to things like famine. But people also ran the risk of dying from bacteria so only those who ate at the right time and those who were strong enough to kill or house the bacteria survived. Have you ever seen a chimp when it sees a recently killed animal like a baboon after it has had a fight and didn't make it out alive? That chimp will tear that sucker apart and stuff itself silly. But an opportunity like that only comes once in a while. Only about .5% of their diet consists of actual meat-eating. When people tell you that you need to be 100% vegetarian, they’re wrong. You’re not built like a cow or a deer. Have you ever seen a moose eat a deer? You will never see anything like that anywhere. You’re just different. There’s a reason why people don’t have multiple stomachs or regurgitate their food for reprocessing. So, don’t listen to animal rights activist vegetarians that think people should live happily with other animals everywhere all of the time. That’s a lie in itself. You will kill if you need to, a bunny won’t. So, there comes this other question about health problems. Why do we eat meat if it’s so bad for us? Like the chimpanzee, you should only be eating meat very rarely. That way, your body can get rid of anything that it doesn’t need, like cholesterol. Cholesterol only comes from animal products. Nothing else contains cholesterol. You yourself produce all of the cholesterol your body needs like every other animal out there so, if you eat another animal, you ingest cholesterol. Simple as that. Of course, people also eat bugs but that’s a whole different category. There’s a reason why some bugs just taste really good to people. There’s supposed to be a certain sweetness to some of them. Particularly big ones. What does that mean? People used to eat bugs. In many different human fossils, scientist have found bug parts throughout their digestive systems. Humans still eat bugs, except maybe here in America and a few other nations. Sorry. It’s a big read. To be honest, I could have written a lot more but I doubt people would want to read all of it. DominO123
So, what does your body need the least of? Protein. I have a problem with this statment, lack of protein directly affect cell division, they are a major source of amino acides. But your resume is short, concise and factual. Be carefull though about proteins, the way you present this (not intention but still) make proteins seem as to be some energy source and tertiary at that, while proteins are not usually used as a source of energy, and have a much more important role. in fact when the conversion of proteins to be used as energy has started up, the body has already started burning it's own cells which contains gluco (e.g. glucoproteins etc.) which are building blocks. We can probably mostly do with plant proteins, be we are made biologically to also eat meat, plants don't need nutriments such as B12 which are absent in an exclusivally vegan diets. Also, animal proteins and macromoleccules are smaller than those from plants. For a reason, plants produce their energy and build those molecules, animals use the molecules from plans and brake them in shorter ones. So a really balanced human food should contain a minimal amount of meat. Not that much though.

I don't think most people really understand or want to take the time to learn about the smaller stuff involving cells, molecules, hormones, ect. About the vitamin B12 though. You don't really need meat for that. The e. coli in your large intestine, I believe that's the organ they're in, produce most, if not all, of the vitamin K and B12 that you need to in order to live. I read that a long time ago though so I'm not rock solid on my stance there. Edited April 2, 2008 by Zara

E.coli themselves while produce B12, they do not self-suffice and depend also of exogen B12 too because they rely on intermediate cobinamide (not to say heavilly methyltransferase dependent) which is not produced significantly. But you are right about the bacteria part, as milk products contain necessary elements and the required bacteria's to produce B12. But hard core vegan don't consume those, do they? DominO123
BTW guys, the supposed study which make Takoush loose her mind, about tooths was a fake. Don't think it's your responsibility, it's mine, but I did have my two implants taken out. My teeth were very sore and painful and I wasn't sleeping well and my dentist reluctantly have taken them out. This whole thing cost me $3,200. Zara
Just in case some people now think that it's ok to have a steak at every meal I'd like to say one thing. Don't do it. There's a lot more to it than what I wrote down. Trust me on this one. Here's another topic. Do you guys know how fastfood chains get you? They're very dirty in their tactics and most people have no idea how it works. I'm sure some of this stuff should give you some ideas but there's more to it. Em
Zar, are you takig a Nutrition class or something along the lines? Lol. Everything you wrote is like a refresher from the one I took. And I misread the question you had asked previously. I thought that you were going to mention that your body digests meat slower than nayhting else you consume. It takes 5 days for it to be broken down. So you carry it around for a while before your body is able to dispose of it. I am sure the fiber sources, overall diet, and poor digestive system play a role too, but for the most part, a big juicy steak stays "with you" for a while.
