Can someone explain to me this feverish desire to answer each and every phone call the moment the cell phone rings? I understand if you are waiting for an important phone call and it's essential that you receive it, but when people pick up their phones to have a regular chit-chat during a conversation it drives me bonkers. I have to say that many complain that I hardly answer my phone, but I don't have a phone so that I can be reached at any minute, I have it so that I make necessary calls and return phone calls when I have a free minute. For instance my very close friend whom I see very seldom has an awful habit of picking up the phone during our meetings and having an extended conversation with pretty much anyone about insignificant things that can certainly wait for at least a day. Now mind you, she is always asking me to meet and to spend time together and I can do it very rarely because of my busy schedule, but come on now, when I am with a friend cell phone is off. I start to really boil when we are sitting at a restaurant and I am forced to look at the menu or a napkin for 10 minutes until she finishes her conversation. And every time it happens she looks at me and whispers "I am sorry." I just don't know how to tell her it's irritating the crap out of me without sounding mean. Arrrrghhhh! It will probably not be legal with respect to FCC rules but so what ... at least I can use it to cut the phone conversation of those that either cut me off on the freeway, drive too slow while chatting away, or yap yap yap too loudly in public. Takoush Posted June 26, 2006 Report Share Posted June 26, 2006 (edited) It's funny you brought this up now Eve; but two days ago I was a bit annoyed by this middle aged/elderly woman sitting on a bench by the North of Hudson River with her cellphone chit chatting with her friend, and when I showed up and have told one important thing to my young daughter and then I sat down with her; she turned around somewhat rudely and in front of me have complained to her friend about me that some people came in here talking much and now I will have to move a bit away. I mean I kept my complete quiet for as long as I was sitting by my daughter there, while she talked about her MRI particulars to her friend. I mean, what is this? I said to myself, now with the cell phones, people everywhere have to shut up so that others on the phone could talk a mile away, instead of them moving completely away without complaining? I mean, people are complainers when they actually have to move away themselves if they want their conversations without demanding complete strangers to shut up for them. I believe that should be the right etiquette. As far as your friend is concerned; I must give it to you that you have patience with her. Mind you I also have a lot of patience with friends; but instead of saying sorry all the time; I think she should correct her behaviour instead. Sip; I don't know how the law is in L.A. but here in Jersey, it is illegal to drive while you're talking on the cell phone. As far as you are concerned, if you have the guts, you could actually make a Citizen's arrest if someone is cutting you off on the freeway while being preoccupied with the cell phone. As far as you are concerned, if you have the guts, you could actually make a Citizen's arrest if someone is cutting you off on the freeway while being preoccupied with the cell phone. I thought that driving with a cell phone is a secondary offence, meaning you have to be stopped for something else as well. I talk and drive all the time here in NJ and have never been stopped.
