PUTIN AND BUSH WILL DISCUSS THE Artsax ISSUE 13.06.2001 /PanARMENIAN.Net/. At the forthcoming meeting in the capital of Slovenia together with other questions the Presidents of Russia and the USA will discuss the settlement of the Artsax conflict. Speaking about the Bush-Putin meeting George Bush's National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice said: "We cooperate with the Russians in many areas. An example of this is the Artsax settlement".

VARDAN OSKANIAN CONFIRMED THE DEVOTION OF ARMENIA TO "THE PARISIAN PRINCIPLES" 13.06.2001 /PanARMENIAN.Net/. Today, at a press conference Foreign Minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian has again confirmed that Armenia is prepared to continue the negotiation process on the Artsax conflict on basis of "the Parisian principles". According to the Minister's words, serious progress has been really achieved during the talks in Paris and Key West, and this was encouraging. But after the last visit of the co-chairmen of the Minsk group to the region, evidently the mediators met new problems, understood rather as proceeding from Azerbaijan. As a result the Geneva meeting, which had been planned in the beginning of June, was delayed for an indeterminate period of time. The mediators explained the slippage of the next stage of the negotiations as caused by unavailability of the Armenian and Azerbaijanian societies to accept the proposals of the Minsk group. The Minister pointed up that neither Armenia, nor Artsax addressed a request to the co-chairmen to delay the meeting. This lets assume that the problems appeared namely in Baku. Vardan Oskanian stated that the negotiations had not been broken off. He hoped that the mediators would be able to bring the negotiations back to the process initiated in Paris.

John Chookasian The Fresno-based Chookasian Armenian Concert Ensemble is in a rather enviable position; it is the only performing ensemble of Armenian music in the United States. It is also the only group of its kind to present concerts specifically designed to included both Eastern and Western Armenian musical selections in the same performance. The main aspiration of the Ensemble is to preserve, promote and perpetuate the music of the Armenian people, as well as to promote intra-Armenian culture understanding. Under the direction of John Chookasian, this noteworthy ensemble performs the classical folkloric and troubadour musical works of the 16th to 19th centuries. Their interpretation of Armenian melodies are performed on a variety of traditional instruments. In 1999, the Chookasian Armenian Ensemble received an invitation from Robert Kocharianthe, Armenian President, inviting them to present a series of concerts in Armenia. Received with great enthusiasm, the Ensemble was awarded an Armenian Gold Medal Music Award, thereby making them the only musical group in the United States to receive such an honor from the Armenian government. The ensemble features John Chookasian on clarinet and percussion, Barabara Chookasian as principal vocalist and on percussion, Vergine Alimian on kanun, Henrick Avoyan on dohol, Suren Mekhrabian on tar and oud, Sarkis Petrosyan on santur, and Albert Vardanyan on duduk, shivee and zurna.
