I have been through this hell before. I purchased a home in Southern California in the late 80's. Everyone said it was a sure investment. My ex and I turned a "frog" of a house into a "prince." We worked on it every weekend and turned it into a showplace. We had it appraised and the appraisal came to 1 1/2 times what we had paid for it. Then George Herbert Walker Bush closed down the defense contracts. Within months the bottom literally fell out of the real estate market. We ended up getting a divorce. The house sold for much less than we had paid for it. It lost 1/2 its value within a few months. Now it is worth three times what we had paid for it. History will repeat itself.
