And you have no idea what it is like to be rural and forgotten and mocked on national tv and jokes and blamed for the skeletons and sins of a whole society ( crime, welfare, racism, etc) so take what I am saying and put yourself in some of these pics when you try to make judgements about folks staying or " making a so-called "choice" to leave" I don't even want to tell you what it was like in the Ward... my roomate made a living by busking in Jackson Square as a dancer and I read palms, coffee , cards and runes for tourists and add that it was the END OF THE MONTH and that you get sick of people crying wolf over and over and just get kind of jaded and think you can ride it out. like some of my friends did and now they gone. If you don't mind, where are you from and where were you raised? That makes them non-Armenians! That's an old archaic term with way too many definitions;therefore, it's useless. They had no right to be there in the first place. The Crusades were a retaliatory response to Arab and Turkic expansionism. To further debunk your misleading statements, a dhimmi could be slaughtered on the spot by a Muslim, the tax on dhimmitude could often be onerous, and Muslims were often simply disregarding the the Qu'ran and the Hadith and would abuse the Christians in their midst. The dhimmi-system was a system of extreme suppresion of all non-moslims. Worse--dhimmitude was supposed to END if one opted to convert to Islam; since dhimmi were virtually slaves to their Muslim conquerors, conversion to Islam was often made illegal. Robert Spencer has made a valiant effort to demonstrate that Islam, from it's outset, was brutal and expansionist, notwithstanding the occasional virtuous Saladin (who was a Kurd) or a similar warrior. Western civilization did indeed face a relentless enemy in Islam, and the Crusades--albeit often vicious in their own right--were indeed a defensive war and not merely a 'distraction' from other matters. We believe that there is no difference at all between approach of Turkish ruling classes on the Kurdish National question and Armenian Genocide. In other words, it is the same denial and decimation policy. Meanwhile, when pressure is put on Turkish regime by the peoples of the world, it proposes that an UN commission should be set up to investigate this issue. It is obvious that scrutiny of Ottoman’s archive would not prove that Armenian Genocide took a place in the history. Because the Armenian Genocide is not like a fraudulent documentation that needs to be investigate over and over again. The facts of the genocide are provided by social and historical knowledge. Accepting to research the archive on the genocide is, in effect allowing oneself to be trapped by the official ideology of Turkish regime. In your opinion and experience,as well as those you know in ROA, how widespread is the radio listening audience? I heard that when electricity is cut, several listened to battery-operated radios. How difficult would it be , to say, start up *micro-boadcasting/*low-bandwith/free radio type of situations in the ROA that cover these issues in an appealing, non-condescending, factual ( but interpersonal and interesting) way? Typically involves low capital input , but high social capital input of people pooling pre-existing technical and apparatus resources together . Here's some links that are fairly centered in the Americas and North/West Europe region. I'm *not* an expert radio technician, just an ex-broadcaster/free radio collective volunteer. It's not pie in the sky. I've seen it happen , and the ppl who put it together were not $uper-funded. Hmm .. maybe should take this into the politics section? Well, I agree. I have this nasty habit of when I hear liberal , I think of " liberalizing" economic policies. I.e., structural adjustment programs via the IMF/World Bank and austerity measures . In economic ( and hence social terms) , these are what one would definitnely call " right wing" when considering who benefits and whose interests are best served by such policies. Similarly, my brain hears "libertarian" , and my default mental model is not that of "free market" capitalist economics coupled with purportedly open social mores. Rather, I tend to think of anarcho-syndicalist trade unions such as the CNT (France, Spain, South Asia) or the old FAI of the Spanish Civil War variety. Also, libertarian inferring anti-authoritarian or horizontally structured platforms of decision making. The confusion is understandable. Also for those who may consider themselves to be socially open or permissive, yet economically conservative, the term progressive could be misleading. This fits the model of certain notions of progress. ( Check "The Poverty of Progress: Latin America in the Nineteenth Century" by E. Question: Has this media outlet often referred to our genocide as alleged? From what I am aware of, California media has for the last decade or so printed genocide without the false modifier of " alleged". Yet I do recall them falling into the erroneous trap of the much dreaded " relativism" and so-called "objectivity" by including quotes from Turkish -American committees and orgs inorder to be "fair and balanced" so to speak. <_< A French social scientist (Bourdieu, I think) once stated that purported objectivity usually amounted to little more than upholding the status quo, the orthodoxy, of opinion. Essentially giving consent to the position with the most hegemony. There are typically few cases where one has an actual disinterested or removed view . Now , for the Texas media to follow suit.
