  3. HyeFedayis, You know when the war just broke out, there were a lot of people like you who said we will never win the war, it is impossible, lets appeal to the international community and there were people who were determined to win by any costs, finally after such a long time Armenians learned to do things differently, but more importantly, cooperate with each other
  4. Good for them, you have to give them credit for achieving such power. I hope the Armenians were as united as them, because we can achieve much more if we all put our heads together
  5. International Herald Tribune, France The Associated Press Dec 26 2006 WASHINGTON: With Democrats taking control of the U.S. Congress, prospects have increased that lawmakers will approve a resolution recognizing the World War I-era killings of Armenians as genocide - despite the objections of President George W. Bush. The shift in Congress also dims the likelihood that the Bush administration can break a deadlock over the president'ss nominee for ambassador to Armenia, Richard Hoagland. Senate Democrats have blocked Hoagland's nomination because of his refusal to call the killings a genocide. The matters before Congress highlight how the deaths of the 1.5 million Armenians almost a century ago remain a sensitive international issue today. The Bush administration has warned that even congressional debate on the genocide question could damage relations with Turkey, a moderate Muslim nation that is a NATO member and an important strategic ally. Turkey has adamantly denied claims by scholars that its predecessor state, the Ottoman government, caused the Armenian deaths in a planned genocide. The Turkish government has said the toll is wildly inflated and that Armenians were killed or displaced in civil unrest during the empire's collapse. After French lawmakers voted in October to make it a crime to deny that the killings were a genocide, Turkey said it would suspend military relations with France. In Washington, Armenian-American groups have been pressing for years for a resolution on the genocide issue. The House of Representatives' International Relations Committee last year endorsed two resolutions classifying the killings as genocide. But the House leadership, controlled by Bush's Republican Party, prevented a vote by the full chamber. With Democrats taking over the House, the top leader will be Nancy Pelosi, who has supported the genocide legislation. A spokesman for Pelosi, Drew Hamill, says she'll continue to support the resolutions. "I think we have the best chance probably in a decade to get an Armenian genocide resolution passed," said Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff, a top advocate of the resolutions. The genocide question was the key issue as the Senate considered the ambassadorial nomination of Hoagland to replace John Evans, who reportedly had his tour of duty cut short because, in a social setting, he referred to the killings as genocide. Senator Robert Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, blocked the nomination over Hoagland's refusal to use the word genocide at his confirmation hearing in June. With Democrats taking over the Senate, it will be even more difficult now for the Bush administration to circumvent Menendez's objections. Early this month, Menendez and the Senate's top Democrat, Harry Reid of Nevada, wrote a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asking the Bush administration to withdraw the nomination. But an administration official responded in a letter to Menendez that it was continuing to back Hoagland. "Despite some claims to the contrary, neither Ambassador-designate Hoagland nor the administration has ever minimized or denied the fact or the extent of the annihilation and forced exile of as many as 1.5. million ethnic Armenians in the final years of the Ottoman Empire," Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns wrote. The letter was provided to The Associated Press by a congressional aide, who requested anonymity because the administration had not agreed to its release. "It would be a shame for the entire Foreign Service should Ambassador-designate Hoagland, an experienced diplomat with a distinguished record of service, be denied confirmation due to past disagreements over Ambassador Evans."
  6. Answer me one question, why would Jews accept the Armenian Genocide? If most of the world did not accept the Holocaust today, do you think most of Armenians and Armenia would accept it? Unfortunately it comes down to every person for himself, every country for itself and every ethnic group for itself. It is because of people like you who wait until other people admit our trategy or if they do not do it you cuss at them, that the Genocide is not recognized worldwide. But, did you every ask yourself, why would anyone care for our surrows? We have to do it ourselves, we always wait until somebody saves us or discusses our problems, lets take things in our own hands for a change! Go, out there and start making noise, let Americans know about the Genocide, instead of blaming Jews for all your problems!
  7. whats up with racism on this forum? We, Armenians complain about Genocide denial and racism towards us, but we do the same thing!
  8. Turkish Daily News Dec 24 2006 The Corridor Sunday, December 24, 2006 Friendship wins from time to time: Nobel Laureate Orhan Pamuk has been at the center of the Armenian issue in Turkey for some time. Pamuk is being exploited in politics to gain support. Columnists are clashing on newspaper pages to make a point. Well, isn't there anything nice happening on the issue? This week, Culture and Tourism Minister Atilla Koc said they would be renovating the Armenian Akdamar Church in the Ani region of Kars with cooperation of the Armenian Church. He said Armenian consultants and experts were involved in the planning stages of the project. According to Koc the opening ceremony of the renovated church will happen on April 24 in the presence of leading artists, scholars and historians. This is seen as a cultural and religious message of conciliation. "I was happy about Orhan Pamuk winning the Nobel Prize. The culture and tourism minister can only be proud of a person who has dedicated his life to literature and won a Nobel Prize. I am proud of Pamuk." The friendly initiative launched by Turkey against the incitement by the Armenian diaspora shows there are nice things happening from time to time despite the animosity.

  12. PanARMENIAN.Net 27.11.2006 16:57 GMT+04:00 /PanARMENIAN.Net/ During debates held in the Johns Hopkins University, Washington, senior associate at the American Foreign Policy Council Wayne Merry described Azerbaijan's constant threats to start blitzkrieg as unreal. "Nagorno Karabakh is a natural stronghold, which was consolidated by the Armenian army. Even the U.S. army will face hardships in case of attacking it," the expert said. "The Armenian Armed Forces excel their rival several times. It's not a secret that Armenia has an army while Azerbaijan has 'armed forces' only," Merry said. In his opinion, in case of resumption of war Azerbaijan will hope for human resources while Armenia will rely on armament and efficiency. Armenians will defend Karabakh while Azerbaijan will have to conquer it, what is unreal, he added. Taking into account these factors Merry considers that Azerbaijan will never succeed in settling the Nagorno Karabakh conflict by force. According to him, Baku's military rhetoric constitutes a threat of war. As a settlement variant Merry proposes 'territories in exchange of status' meanwhile the Lachin corridor should remain under control of the Armenian side, reports Yerkir Online.
  13. UK Foreign Minister admits over a million Armenians were killed in the massacres of 1915/1916 The first cracks appear in the UK government's wall of silence and denial of the Armenian genocide Following representations from the M.P. of an "Armenia Solidarity" member, the Rt Hon Geoff Hoon M.P. the Foreign 0ffice Minister responsible for UK/Armenia relations, admitted in a letter that during 1915/1916 "over a million ethnic Armenian citizens of the 0ttoman Empire were killed. Many were massacred....." He went on " The massacres of 1915....1916 were an appalling tragedy, which the British government of the day condemned"obviously refering to the joint declaration by France, Great Britain and Russia on 24th may 1915 which mentions "massacring Armenians with the connivance and often assistance of 0ttoman authorities" and which refers to "those new crimes of Turkey against humanity and civilisation" "We fully endorse that view", he continued. This position is certainly at variance with the official Turkish position that the Armenian deaths resulted from" a bitter confrontation instigated by Armenian radicals in colloboration with or in the service of invading foreign forces.....in the form of rebellion, conspiracy, sabotage, large scale atrocities, and the massacre off an estimated three million Turkish and other Muslim civilians in Anatolia by Armenian militants and armed gangs" (K.Haktanir, Turkish Ambassador to UK 27/11/2002) We recognise that genocide recognition will have to be fought for clause by clause, comma by comma, and so this change of tone in the British government's reply is believed to be signifigant. A book of evidence on the genocide,"Remember," compiled by John Torosyan of the Armenian/Welsh Friendship Society, was presented to Prime Minister Tony Blair at the Annual Conference of the Labour Party in september. While again not using the term Genocide, this is a less ambiguous statement than previous attempts to bury the issue by successive UK government ministers.

  18. ANKARA, Turkey - Turkey has suspended military relations with France in a dispute over whether the mass killings of Armenians early in the last century amounted to genocide, a top army commander said Wednesday. The move was the latest backlash against French legislation that, if approved by the Senate and president, would criminalize denial that the killings of Armenians in Turkey were genocide. "Relations with France in the military field have been suspended," Gen. Ilker Basbug said in Ankara, according to state-owned Anatolia news agency. France's Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry had no immediate comment. France and Turkey are both NATO members, and Turkey has been a buyer of French-made weaponry. The two countries also have participated in military exercises together, and have sent troops to serve in the international peacekeeping force in Lebanon. But the Turkish military also has blacklisted several French firms in the past in similar disputes over the mass killings of Armenians. Basbug, commander of land forces, disclosed the suspension of military ties with France in comments to reporters at a reception in Ankara, the Anatolia news agency reported. The French bill still needs approval from the Senate and President Jacques Chirac to become law. Asked whether any military missions between the two nations had been canceled, Basbug said: "There are no high-level visits between the two countries." Turkey sees the French bill as a hostile, anti-Turkish move, and has warned that the lawmakers' vote has already damaged Turkish-French relations. Turkey vehemently denies that it committed genocide against Armenians, though many nations have classified the killings as such. The United Nation's 1948 Genocide Convention makes genocide a crime, and defines it as killing or injuring people "with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group." Turkey acknowledges that large numbers of Armenians died in mass expulsions and fighting, but says the number of dead is exaggerated and that most were killed in interethnic violence that erupted as the Ottoman Empire collapsed. Armenians and many nations say some 1.5 million Armenians were killed in a genocidal campaign devised and executed by Turkish leaders. The European Union and European media have criticized the French bill, saying it does not respect the principle of free expression and does not promote dialogue with Turkey, a hopeful EU candidate. The United States also criticized the French bill, saying that it gets in the way of reconciling the Turks and Armenians. The Armenian issue is one of the most divisive and emotional in Turkey. Those who classify the killings as genocide are often accused of treason. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061116/ap_on_...france_military

  20. ARAM ASATRYAN WILL BE BURIED IN ARMENIA (video) A1+ [05:40 pm] 08 November, 2006 more images This time yesterday it didn't even occur to the participants of the baptizing ceremony in Oshakan that the godfather will not be alive soon. The godfather was famous singer Aram Asatryan who died suddenly at about 07:00 p.m. yesterday. Asatryan was 53 years old. According to eyewitnesses, he was in high spirits till the end. He told the participants of the party that they would have a wonderful day together. But shortly after that Aram Asatryan lost consciousness right in the hall. He had three sons and a daughter. One of his sons died a few months ago at the age of 30. Could the personal grief be the reason for his death? Asked this question his press secretary Hrachuhi Yeranosyan answered, "He never spoke about his problems". Aram Asatryan arrived in Armenia from the USA five days ago. His family is still in the States. On November 10 the presentation of his new CD titled "My Sons" will take place in the Armenian Music Center. After that he intended to go on a concert tour in Russia and Europe. Tomorrow the singer's family will arrive in Armenia to participate in the funeral.
