DominO123
He rules... now we must pass to speed 2. DominO123
BTW Anoushik, take off the slightly higher in the priority(the change you did)... it'll force your computer when it is doing other tasks and you may detect speed decline(based on my tests)... leave it as it was previously. The Israeli team is well behind, and we will be beating Sherbrook university very soon, so I can laught at them(few friends there). Come on guys, we need more folding. Sip
Sip, you fake nerd... if you don't start folding back again, I'll be the one comming south to kick your butt. I don't have any processors to spare at the moment. Haven't had any for the past couple of weeks and they'll all probably be busy till well after new years. Kudos to TB - our multi-processor leader All hail style_images/master/snapback.png Thank you, thank you. But now you have the new multi-processor leader Siamanto. And I would like to remind you guys that I won't be contributing so many CPUs in the long term. Maybe 1-2 always on, and a few on-again-off-again ones (which may trip on deadlines). So recruit more people. Take care. TB

Furthermore, 4 of them are "virtual" CPUs running on the same machine. As you already know, the number of CPUs is not as relevant as the processing power. It is possible to run - up to 8??? - virtual CPUs on the same physical CPU. I was simply experimenting with an idea that I may reveal later! If it really matters, as of today, we may be able to create the illusion of running more than 100 CPUs! (A magic number for Domino! ) Edited December 13, 2004 by Siamanto
Sip
It is possible to run - up to 8??? - virtual CPUs on the same physical CPU... Depending on what you mean by a "virtual cpu" but theoretically there is no limit on the number of virtual machines as each is basically running like a normal proccess. You would however soon run out of precious recources such as RAM which would quickly lead to a system that does nothing but thrashing (i.e. no useful work). It has nothing to do with the OS! In the config file, there's a property called "machineid." I may be wrong, but I believe that 8 is the maximum allowed! Sip
I see. When I have time, I have been planning to look at their packet formats to see what is actually communicated back and forth ... maybe there's a way around "folding" without actually folding
Siamanto
I see. When I have time, I have been planning to look at their packet formats to see what is actually communicated back and forth ... maybe there's a way around "folding" without actually folding style_images/master/snapback.png I'm sure that they took all the necessary precautions to detect and prevent "untidy" folding! If many did that than Biology and Pharmacology may be built on shaky foundations! Imagine the effects of medicinal drugs based on "untidy" folding? But their may be a way to cheat without sending back "untidily" folded work units. All depends on the content/format of the packets. Try to disassemble the code! How about a worm that installs the "folding program" on other computers and let them fold for us? Kisher pari!

Anoushik
Domino help! I'm sick of my computer Or probably I've done something wrong (like installed the wrong kind of program for my computer). I looked through the folding website and it seems like these WU's have deadlines. Well, my "folding" is very useless now (only 43% and 173/400, whatever that means). Not only that, I have no idea what WU I'm folding. Where do I look to find out my WU's number? And what's a CPU? And please, I want to get rid of this WU and get a new one. How can I do that? (What processor you have, how much RAM, what OS you have, it was when the last time you have installed it etc...)
Sip
And what's a CPU? Anoushik I am NOT laughing at you. That's a very valid question. But not for a 2nd year college computer science student! Someone ACTUALLY raised his hand and asked what CPU stood for in my sophomore programming class! The entire class busted out laughing at the poor guy. The professor was nice about it and wrote it out on the board .. "central processing unit" and went on to explain it's function in a computer ... but I sorta wish he had been honest with that kid and told him not to waste his time in this major anymore. I asked my brother to let me "fold" on our new computer but he refused. I'll ask him again but I don't want my 43% folding to be a waste Edit: Actually it's 47% now. vava
Anoushig jan, sometimes and old computer can be like an old car.... it runs a bit slower, maybe less efficiently, but if it gets you from A to B, it's still useful.

I'll do an exception for you and provide you the key tomorow. BTW, there's something you wanted in a certain board.
