Anonymouse
Well, if you hate football about as much as I do, this thread is for you. I have decided to begin the pre anti-Superbowl celebrations now in the morning, and well, what can I say -- I got beer, I got Planters Value Pack Cashews, and confettis. I will be releasing the confettis before the kick off. http://www.absolutehollywoodpromotions.com/paper_foil_confetti_blaster_special_events.jpg
angel4hope
to be honest here...iv always tried 2 at least watch it for 5 minutes..to get exposure to it at least...one of my friends used 2 play high school football...so i was kind of obligated 2 go to at least one of his games...after i ran outta excuses...after that ill never watch football...id rather play than watch a sport...i still dont see what all the excitement is all about ...the superbowl...4 me its like..yah yah yah..whatever....as long as i keep the tv off that day...id rather go 2 the beach and play volleyball!! gurgen
I hate American football too Anon. In fact, it shouldn't even be called football. This is football: http://eur.news1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/xp/empics/20030917/20/1074811419.jpg What pissed me off most about AF is that they brag about it being such a manly sport and then go wear 23562309 pieces of protection and a supersize helmet. Grow up. Play a real sport. Edited February 1, 2004 by gurgen
vava
Now, Rugby - that's a real sport No protection there, just bone & flesh on bone & flesh It's a given that the superbowl weekend reeks of excess and disgusting consumerism. However, the sport of football isn't all that bad. The strategies involved are quite elaborate, and you must admire the physical play - these peolpe are nearly machines. I could do without the minute or so of boring non-action between plays however. Oh, and Hockey... that's a real sport too
Stormig
Hockey - I loved floor hockey. In fact on one occasion I smashed my head on the high school principal's daughter's cheek, and she walked around with a blue face for a few days. I didn't like her that much but I didn't cheer up like some of my friends did. he he, on one occasion I scored just after the puck had started game. The goalie was looking on and realized on later that people were looking at the puck behind her and between her legs. Have played "powder puff" - no, that wasn't it, we played it with the flags - some girls just weren't able to get out of the [real] football mentality and it was a mess. Also some "softball." Yaaaaaawn And what is it Americans have with "World Series" when they are the only ones playing the sport?
vava
And what is it Americans have with "World Series" when they are the only ones playing the sport? Well, there are two canadian teams involved (for now, at least). So i suppose that's worldly enough for them Besides Toronto won 2 years in a row in the 1990's - much to my delight (eventhough I don't really have much of a liking for baseball)
gurgen
Baseball, a sport where American hicks chew on tobacco, spit it out, hit a ball, run a few yards and play cards for the rest of the game
Anonymouse
Basically we've come to a consensus. The two sports that spawned out of America, baseball and "football" ( I wouldn't call it that like it's already been pointed out ), suck ass. Sip
How's this for a consensus: 1) Football kicks ASS 2) Soccer is for pansies and cry babies ... although I enjoy it a lot. 3) Baseball sucks. I'm sure the French were behind it's invention. 4) Tha Patriots are going to PWN and the pathers will be PWND of course. Let the festivities BEGIN
gurgen
1) Football kicks ASS 2) Soccer is for pansies and cry babies ... although I enjoy it a lot. That's probably why AF-players wear all those big cushens and that big big helmet. Because they're such big bad men Edited February 1, 2004 by gurgen
vava
Actually, you'd be surprised. Playing football hurts much more, as a result of the equipment - say, compared to Rugby where it's flesh vs. flesh, in Football, it's flesh vs. ultra hardened thermo-resin and steel. Which would you rather have?
THOTH
I have to say - American football rocks! The greatest (spectatr) sport IMO....and BTW the Panthers will win by 3. ANd baseball is a great sport (againto watch)...its just the prima donnah atheletes and the corporatism have ruined it (and are degrading all pro sports IMO...just baseball is the lamest in this regard...greed totally rules)

Anonymouse
Anon! Football is an evolutionary sport .You just don't get it but once you get it then you'll never look back. Oh I get it. I watch it from time to time, and I used to play it. That has nothing to do with it. I like playing it. Watching it is boring. Even beyond that, the game itself is not as beautiful as soccer or rugby.
THOTH
Patriots are about to put the little kittens back into the litter box. mew, mew! I dont think so - but I do think that the game will likely be o\won or lost on a turnover or several. i do think the panthers have a decent ofense and one that matches up well against the patriots...I mean what do you scheme when your d line is being pushed back off the ball....the Panthers O line rocks! And they have recievers and Delhome is a smwrt QB. Sure I respect Belechik, Patriots D (Ty Law! etc) and even their QB...but not their runners or recievers or such - and the Panthers D is very good. So I give the advantage to the Panthers..coaching advantages aside...but I see a close defense game - with an INT or blocked kick or such being pivotal...still if anything the panthers will get out front and stay there...well tghats my prediction - for what its worth... Sip
....and BTW the Panthers will win by 3. If you meant Pats, I'd have been VERY impressed!!!! I almost started to get nervous there for a sec But still good call on the closeness of the game. I thought there'd be at lease a 10 point difference ... Nice game ... Fosters' TD was great ... and I'm not saying this because he's a bruin.

THOTH
Well Sip...could have (and should have) just as eaisily been the Panthers...were it not for that very suck out of bounds kick of!!!! I mean raly now - pats on the 40! ...anyway..yeah game went very much as i thought it would...except I did thik that the panthers (Davis) would be able to run better...i wqas thinking that the Pats D would get worn down...turned out it was the other way around....oh well..was a great game..would have liked to see carolina win it..and I really did think that they would (or were more likely to)... And game was ceetainly mush better then the commercials this year which mostly sucked..certainly notjhing truly oustanding...
