Vayri -

the most amzing Armenian dance I ever saw was at the Lisner Auditoriom (George Washington University) in Washington Dc - probably 1980-81 (just a guess)...an Armenian Dance troupe from Canada...all was beautiful...but what stood out was a lead (male) dancer who did a solo dance where he tapped out the rythym on the wooden stage floor - with the knuckles of his feet. I had never seen anything like it before in my life and just couldn't belive anyone could do such...I don't know anything about this dance (forgot anything I might have known about it)..all I know is that it certainly moved me (and the rest of the audience)...anyone at all familiar?

Excellent suggestion! :) Unfortunately I don't (can't :( ) dance and know very little about traditional armenian dance, apart from what I see at weddings... so I won't be able to contribute much to the discussion. So please continue!!

The 'toe' dance you probably saw was the LEZGINKA!!! It is danced all over the Caucasus and Armenians have their version too! B)

Some photos of other Lezginkas (& similar): Tell me, do their costumes look familiar? ;)

Do these costumes look familiar, or what?? B)

BTW!!!!!! Does anyone know how to dance Armenian lezginka? All I know is that it's slower (but more soulful!!) than most the other ones... how fitting, eh? ;)

But I found no photos of Armenian dance :(

PARKAPZUK? Georgians using parkapzuk? Damn! Next thing you know they will declare it "pure" Georgian instrument, just like in case you don't know those dances are "pure" Georgian, same as their churches...and the list goes on.....

:)

I just wonder what else they gonna steal and present it as Georgian?

Gam jan, I didn't want to hurt their feelings. PAR-KA-PZUK it is!

As a fellow Hyeforumer once said to me, Georgia is Armenia Junior. :D Everything Georgian just happens to look a lot like everything Armenian. Look at music: duduki, orvela (horovel), zamtari (winter feast songs)...

The mention of parkapzuk reminded me of how two of the musical pieces on the golden record aboard the Voyager spacecraft are "the bagpipe anthem" of "Ugam" from the "Azeri S.S.R." (can those receiving aliens say ARTSAKH??) and the polyphonic "Chakrulu" from Georgia, making the Armenia and her majestic duduk the only Caucasian republic not cruising the outer space. :censored: :mad1:
