Sip Posted June 10, 2002 Report Share Posted June 10, 2002 Alright, this thing is just another one of those things that just doesn't make sense to me! What am I talking about? I am talking about people "making their beds" in the morning. Those that when they get up in the morning (in case of couples, whoever gets up latest, in case of tripples ... well, let's NOT go there ) they insist on completely putting all the covers nicely back on the bad, cleaning things up, puffing up the pillows, and then leaving for the day. What is the problem? Well, usually, after a long day, they come back home, and when they go back to the bedroom, they immediately remove the covers to use the bed. So here's my problem: What difference does it make if the bed is made up during the day or not? Why does that make some people feel better about themselves? Why not just save the time and the effort, leave the bed the way it is for when you come back to use it later that night ????? Ok, I understand that sometimes you have people visiting. Fine, go ahead ... make the bed then. But why everyday? why do it when NO one will be in that room except yourself and/or your spouse much later in the day when you have to remove the covers off the bed anyway? If you don't have any idea what I am talking about, you are one of the few lucky ones! Believe me, I have seen and heard of this crazy practice in many different places (yes, even different countries) ... among the Armenians and also among the non-Armenians ... It just doesn't make sense! Anyone able to shed some light on this for me? Are you one of those that insists on having a perfectly made-up bed when you leave the house or are you like me ... couldn't care less what it looks like except for when there are people that will come to the house ?????? Some like their beds ready made, some like to make their beds ready. Did it occur to you that your sheets maybe need some daily fresh air? There can be an awful lot going on between them you know. Accelerated Posted June 10, 2002 Report Share Posted June 10, 2002 I never make my bed, and I couldnt care less how it looked even if we had guests (though my mum usually does make my bed when we have people coming over, but to put it into perspective, this is to make her look better, since she is the only female in this household). Recently my dad took some photoes of the mess in my room to show my future wife . But many of my friends have rooms in far worse shape, so I dont know what the fuss is all about . Her Mom was a powerful tight-ass Republican, so that is probably where she learned this silliness. As for Gamavor being an Army graduate, that explains his overall life approach to me. My supervisors, before I retired, were all ex-military men. These jackasses operated like they were still in the military some 20 to 30 years after they were de-commissioned. We should send every 18 year old to UC Berkeley or a similar institution for four years after high school instead of into the military. My grandfather showed me how to make my bed when I was a kid and I have been doing it for the last 20+ years. It's no big deal. The only time when I do not make the bed is when I am in a hotel room. I also clean my room al th time, do my own laundery and cook. But I refuse to wash my care but 3-4 times a year. I have a hard time understanding why people get their car washed every week. I know there is a big connection between "bed" and politics but here we are talking about "making the bed" ... it probably has some deep psychological meanings or just that it is a learned behavior (forced) but I don't believe it has a direct relationship with political stuff. I don't have to wash it every week The only time I have really had to "wash" the truck was after THIS. It took me about 3 days to clean it up ... It's been about 7 months but I still get chunks of mud out of the wheel wells once in a while.
