Impressions Of The Day

Today I got my first chance to use it. Making Sarma... I chopped a few stuff then while chopping the red bell peppers I cut my thumb about 1/8 deep. I know everyone is saying that not that bad. Well, it cut through the pot part of the thumb through the nail. :( OUCH. it hurts like hell and there was blood all over.

Well I guess we will be eating bloody sarma for halloween.

Best part of the story. Nothing happened to my baby. She is still as sharp and waiting for me to make that sarma from scratch all over again

Sorry to hear that Azat. Did you have your sweetheart kiss it so the pain would go away?

You're a big boy now, so stop playing with knives. :P

Don't worry about the bloody sarma, it'll all wash with the tomato sauce. ;)

i know Armat jan and I always do but i really dont know how it happened to tell you the truth. i was so excited on how sharp this knife was and i was chopping the pepper using a rocking motion and it was cutting so well that i somehow put my thump on the board and the end of the knife did its magic.

Anahid jan i am so afraid to tell her because she always eiter wants to rub it with alcohol swab or with iodine causing ten times more pain.

---

sarma with no blood ready. anyone and everyone welcome to dinner. just wear socks you dont like as the wonderful taste of Azat's sarma will knock your socks off.

ehhh, this is what happens when you talk big... i was here chit chating with Anahid, Sip and Harut when all of a sudden I smell burned food smell. Wondering what it is i walk out of my room and into the kitchen and to my shock i had forgotten to turn off the burner under the sarma.:( The top row was okay, just a bit smokey, but the bottom row was not recoverable :(

this is not my day

Movses jan:

Please let me know exactly how you do prepare Xash?

Anahid

Anahid, you asked this before and I was tempted to respond, however I assumed everybody knew what Khash was.

Apparently not.

Let me first ask you. Do you know what Western Armenians call "*****" is? More specificaly "kele *****", Turkish, but the Persians know it as such too.

Basicaly it is the head, the feet, and may be the stomach of sheep cooked with tons of garlic and ttu, be it lemon or sumac and served as a liquidy stew.

.

Don't foget the tons of garlic.

To lighten a little bit, among the many anecdotes told about Toumanian, the absent minded professor, is one morning on his way to school (he was a teacher) he observed Mrs. Toumanian was sweating over a boiling pot on the fire. When asked what she was doing she said she was doing khash. That day Hovannes invited all his colleagues and every one he met on the street over for khash. They all came, sat around the apseh with spoons ready. There was no khash in sight. Finally Hovannes broke down and beckoned the Mrs. and asked wher the khash was. She answered, it was hanging on the clothes line in the yard.

:) :)

Khash also means laundry, when, before the inventionof Maytag they boiled the clothes to clean and disinfect. Linguistically speakinh "khash", in fact the native Armenian word is "kharsh" simply means to boil.

You will find many entries. Just use "khash" as your keyword in google or whatever search.

Better yet, search this forum using "Khash" or "*****" as your keyword as it has been discussed on many occasions.

Here is a recipe..

Of course I know about "patcha". I think my mother made it in our life time only a number of times; maybe 10 times if I remember. But my brother and I hated it. I felt eekh about it.

I know though in "Mardigian's" book the Armenian American Restaurateur who was wealthy, but more than that he was a benefactor for Ancha to make Armenians from all over the world to be able to come to the U.S. Especially the Middle East. In his book he talks about "Patcha" that he used to love to eat in Istanbul some Armenian Restaurant I think that he used to go to. It's a very fun book and a very entertaining one to read.

I don't like patcha myself; but I'll make it if need be for the people who love it.
