Turkish State television

Just saw this - it was a skit on Saturday Night live - very funny. It was supposed to be like a Turkish David Letterman. It portrayed the Turks as slovenly/cheap like - everyone was smoking, all their names were pretty funny. There was a bit with this aging Turkish supposed beauty queen/actress. Her 2003 pin-up calender - embarasingly "used" by the co-host...(with her hideous face on the cover) was shot entirely at an oil refinery in baku. At one point they were putting down one of the co-host - and he replied indignantly something like - "what do you think I am an Armenian" or something of that sort. Too bad I didn't record it...good for family gatherings & such...just joking...but it was pretty funny...

Was it last night? Ah !!!! I missed it

Have you seen the one where Ben Affleck playing a used Armenian Car salesman? It's one the FUNNIEST SNL sketches ever ... the one when a "kinky" husband and wife show up and almost everything they say has some strange sexual connotation

Affleck in a thick "Armenian" accent: "You vant me to put it in FIRST"? (referring to the stick-shift)

I believe this a recurring skit. Apparently everyone else in my household watched it and didn't tell me.. bastards. I see now SNL is following MadTV's lead in taking shots at Armenians, hehe.

Seaphan, about the skit you're talking about.. I didn't know they sold used Armenian cars in this neck of the woods

Haven't ever seen any of these others - to bad - there is plenty to be made fun of between Armenians & Turks - IMO. Too bab I missed these othwers. Anyway the host & guests & overall portrrayal of the (TV) Turks was quite amusing . Having know a few "happening" Turks - this show hits so close to home. As I am sure the Armenian used car salesemen skit would. If anyone has ever seen taxicab confesions- wirth the 2 Armenian guys - I'm still rolling over that one...

Hey Thoth, how's the wine today? (just re-read your post and you'll see what I mean )

Whoot: Yes! We even have used Armenian cars ... they come equipped with "xhorovats" making equipment from the factory (it uses engine heat under the hood), run on 80-proof vodka, and the CD-player only plays Harut Pamboukjian.

But best of all, they are voice activated: You say "Ara gna" it starts to go ... you say "Hop" and it stops.

Agree 100% on the taxicab confessions. Couldn't believe when they said - "we are Armenians!" LOL - thay were pretty awesome...

As for the wine yes...earlier tonight we finished off a '98 Bueacastle Chateneuf de Pape - truly a great great wine (and on eof my all time favorites!)...and more recently I've been working on some (California) Dry Creek '97 Merlot reserva - powerful in itself - but no where in the same ballpark as the Beaucastle - so I can't spell (or type)...whats new - I can't spell or type anyway...doesn't mean I'm drunk...though in this case you are quite right!

Looks like I finally lost again - Fantasy Football...hopefully Marshall isn't hurt serious...what's with your team? Looks like Tigrannes won though (finally)...good for him...his team can put up the points - I warned him about consitency though - as a long time fantasty football player I have learned the value in consistency (therefore strong RBs)...and i feel very justified having picked Harrison over both Moss & Owens - never doubted that pick for a second...

There's nothing really wrong with my team ... I tend to score descently ... it's just that people seem to have games of their lives against me! Like Bogglers ... Plaxico scored like 37 points for him!!!! By the way, did you see what happened in the Steeler's game? Wow! I just saw the highlights and it looks like it was a heck of a game.

I still have Portis, Rice, and Rickey Williams playing so there is hope for me. But I don't think I'll get to 124 points ... I am watching the Miami game right now ... hopeing Rickey will light things up a bit

Actually, I think I am 4th or a very close 3rd in terms of number of points scored. However, in terms of points scored against, I am second to last ... only beating Tigranes ... unfortunately, I don't have much control over how many points are scored against me

I saw it last night

pretty funny.

the woman who was playing the 'turkish' actress is Greek and she was in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" . If any of you saw the movie they portrayed the turks as bloodthirsty people. I'm guessing that the Turkish State television episode on SNL was done on purpose. I was laughing my a** off when the turkish actress started picking her nose in front of the camera

After the 2 turkish men started to argue one of them turned to the other and said "You're threating me like I'm an Armenian"

Turks protest American NBC for debasing Turkish nation

Turkish Daily News

Tuesday November 12, 2002

Turks living in the United States have launched a campaign against American

TV channel NBC on the grounds that an NBC comedy program displayed Turks as

people who hate Armenians, have Arabic names, smoke heavily and pick their

noses.

NBC's most popular comedy program "Saturday Night Live" hosted Greek actress

Nia Vardalos, who performed a Turkish woman picking her nose. Vardolos is

the lead actress of the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," which has recently

opened in cinemas.

In the act, the Turkish flag had "Turkish State Television" blazoned across

it, though the "Turkish" presenter and guests had Arabic names and spoke

with an Arabic accent. The actors picked their noses and smoked during the

act, using sentences such as "This girl is good since she is not Armenian."

The Turkish Forum, a communication network of Turks living broad, launched a

campaign against the NBC, asking Turkish people to send protest letters to

the NBC.

An example letter displayed on the institution's internet site read that

Turks were shocked by the content and that the program was another

propaganda tool prepared by Greek and Armenian lobbies.
