Armenian districts of Aleppo has been rather intense. The Press

Secretary of the Armenian National Prelacy in Aleppo Jirayr Reisian

informed "Armenpress" that the situation in Aleppo, particularly in

the Armenian districts of New Village and Villaner was not peaceful.

 

Although current situation in Aleppo is calm.

 

According to Reisian one bomb fell in the district of New Village and

about 4-5 bombs fell near the Church of St. Theotokos and neighboring

building in Villaner. Fortunately, the explosions did not cause human

casualties, there has been only material damage - only several parts

of the inhabitant construction and vehicles have been damaged.

 

As to the Armenians kidnapped in the road from Beirut to Aleppo on

October 29, Reisian stated that in spite of all their efforts they

do not possess any information about them.

 

Among other things the Press Secretary also noted that the parcels of

the third humanitarian aid from Armenia to Syria are already being

distributed to the people of both the Armenian and Arabian descend

from Aleppo and other parts of Syria.

SYRIAN ARMENIANS: 'OUR ENEMY'S FLAG MADE US HAPPY, BUT ASHAMED'

YEREVAN // Hovig Asmaryan said he and his family were initially

ashamed by their happiness when they finally caught sight of the

Turkish flags flying on Syria's border with Turkey.

 

Syrian Armenians from Aleppo, they fled late in September in a

nine-car convoy. For Mr Asmaryan and the others in the convoy, the

flags signified they had escaped the nightmare their lives had become

during the 20-month Syrian conflict.

 

But the sight also brought back memories of the what Armenians consider

a genocide - the 1915 massacre of millions of Armenians by Ottoman

Turks - that sent the previous generation fleeing for safety to Syria.

 

"I have grandfathers who were killed in that time. We looked to Turkey

as an enemy who wanted to destroy us ... And suddenly I felt happy

when I saw their flag," said Mr Asmaryan.

 

But Mr Asmaryan said he knew it was time to leave Syria, describing the

violence and kidnappings in Aleppo "a gang fight". Through Turkey and

then Georgia, they drove to Armenia, their homeland, seeking refuge.

 

Hranush Hakobyan, the head of Armenia's diaspora ministry, said

about 6,000 Syrian-Armenian refugees have arrived in Armenia since

the start of the 20-month-long conflict.

 

The Armenian government has been offering them visas upon arrival,

recognising their Syrian driver licences, and expediting passports

as part of a dual citizenship law. A public school in Yerevan is

offering classes where Syrian-Armenian children can follow the Syrian

curriculum.

 

There are resources for little else. Ms Hakobyan said the Armenian

government has only a small amount of emergency housing and that it

is already full with local Armenians and also some people from Iraq

and Syria.

 

"People need help with jobs and rent," she said. "This is a big

problem for my country."

 

The United Nations estimates that hundreds of thousands mostly

impoverished Sunni refugees have fled Syria for neighbouring

countries. As many as 1.5 million are internally displaced.

 

Syria's approximately 85,000-100,000 Armenian population is largely

middle class, living mainly in Aleppo. Many left behind businesses,

properties and, in some cases, significant savings in Syria's banks.

 

International sanctions and Syria's Central Bank policies make it

difficult for them to transfer their money out of the country.

 

"Even in the baby's Pampers (nappies)," Mr Asmaryan said of how his

young child aided in efforts to get some of his savings out of Syria.

 

Mr Asmaryan was one of the few Syrian Armenians interviewed by The

National who agreed to be identified by his real name.

 

Though now out of Syria, others fear for their family members still

living in the country and did not want to endanger their own ability

to return one day.

 

"The [syrian] Armenians here are scared of the [regime's] intelligence

agencies," said a 23-year-old Syrian-Armenian man who arrived in

Yerevan with his mother and father 14 weeks ago. The rebels were not

the danger, he said.

 

Many of the refugees from Syria are staying with relatives who moved

to Armenia before the conflict started. They have faced significant

challenges. Armenia is an isolated and resource-scarce country. Syrian

Armenians, most of whose ancestors are from eastern Turkey, speak

a different dialect of Armenian. Those with means generally stay in

the country only long enough to procure a visa to another country.

 

A 22-year-old former shop manager in Aleppo's Midan district, who

identified himself as Jak Jakian, has been living at his uncle's house

with his mother and 20-year-old brother in Yerevan's working-class

Erebuni district for the past two months. He managed to find a factory

job where he earns about US$200 (Dh735) a month.

 

"I still love my president. We were happy about our president," Mr

Jakian said of Bashar Al Assad. He and his mother said they appreciated

the economic subsidies provided by the Syrian regime for staples such

as rice and sugar.

 

Other Syrian Armenians spoke of the churches and schools their

community was freely allowed to maintain under the Al Assad regime.

 

Mr Jakian, and other Syrian Armenians interviewed, said they preferred

the regime's rule and described coexisting peacefully with Syrians

of other religions, blaming the conflict on a foreign conspiracy.

 

"There is a world war in Syria," Mr Jakian said. Echoing a line of

the Al Assad regime, he added: "Terrorists came into Syria with guns

and bombs."

 

Though nearly all expressed a desire to return to Syria, their doubts

showed how the conflict has endangered Syria's multi-ethnic identity.

 

"Now I think, if there is a safe situation, I should go and sell

everything and move here," said another Syrian-Armenian man. "Those

with the financial means will come [to Armenia]."

 

Mr Asmaryan and his family were not planning to return to Syria. After

staying in Yerevan for only five days, they were among a small group

of Syrian Armenians who moved to Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed area that

borders Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran. The primarily Armenian-populated

region is the basis of a long-standing conflict between Armenia and

Azerbaijan. The two countries fought a six-year war over it from 1988

to 1994.

 

Mr Asmaryan said he saw opportunities in Nagorno-Karabakh and planned

to grow olive trees and buy agriculture equipment.

 

"It's safe," Mr Asmaryan said. "When we hear a boom we know it is a

marriage and not a fight."

EXPERT: TURKEY WON'T GIVE UP PLAN TO ATTACK SYRIA

is losing its topicality, Director of the Oriental Studies Institute

of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences said.

 

According to Ruben Safrastyan, the U.S. program aiming to overthrow

the Assad regime has failed.

 

"Syrian authorities proved the existence of a strong state system,

with the majority of the population backing it. Moreover, the West

proves unable to maintain influence on the country's opposition

forces," the expert told a press conference.

 

"The U.S. is still unable to find an actor that can influence the

opposition. The process is unlikely to yield any progress," he said,

liking Turkey's plan to attack Syria to the Kurdish problem.

AGBU YP BOSTON HOLDS FUNDRAISER FOR SYRIAN ARMENIAN RELIEF FUND

WATERTOWN, Mass.-AGBU Young Professionals of Boston hosted a fundraiser

for the AGBU Syrian Armenian Relief Fund on Nov. 13.

 

Tickets were bought in advance for a dinner prepared by the Armenian

American Social Club in Watertown. Proceeds will direct help the

Syrian-Armenian community.

 

Participants in the event Months of political turmoil have

displaced many Armenians forcing them to flee their homes,

family, and businesses. Fighting and instability have caused

deaths and injuries. Some have relocated to Armenia and surrounding

communities. The AGBU has been providing basic needs such as food,

water, shelter, and medicine to thousands of Armenian families. The

event was well attended by many Armenian and non-Armenian professionals

and raised a substantial amount of money.

DETROIT BEGINS FUNDRAISING FOR SYRIAN-ARMENIAN RELIEF

Greater Detroit's Armenian community kicked off its ongoing fundraising

program on Oct. 26 to support Syrian-Armenian relief efforts, as

ongoing violence envelops the country's major cities that have been

home to Armenians for hundreds of years.

Sponsored by the Greater Detroit United Committee for Syrian Armenian

Relief Fund, the event at St. Sarkis Lillian Arakelian Hall raised over

$7,500. The committee continues to meet frequently to engage greater

segments of metro Detroit's Armenian community in its work, with

ongoing phone-banking and planning of additional fundraisers underway.

 

Led by co-chairs Shakeh Basmajian and Shant Jamgotchian, the committee

is comprised of representatives from the following metro Detroit

churches and organizations: St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, St.

 

Vartan Armenian Catholic Church, and Armenian Congregational Church;

ARF Detroit "Azadamard" Gomideh; ARS "Maro," "Shakeh," "Sybille,"

"Tsolig," and "Zabel" Chapters; Homenetmen of Detroit; Hamazkayin

of Detroit; Tekeyan Cultural Association; AYF Detroit "Kopernik

Tandourjian" Chapter; Knights of Vartan of Detroit, Daughters of

Vartan of Detroit; Detroit Armenian Women's Club; and Armenian

Engineers and Scientists of America-Michigan Section.

 

Master of Ceremonies Hayg Oshagan set the tone with a moment of silence

for those who have lost their lives in the beleaguered country. Oshagan

noted that he accepted the master of ceremonies job because he felt

a particular responsibility to the Syrian-Armenian community for

personal and political reasons connected to the 1915 Armenian Genocide

and creation of the Armenian Diaspora. Oshagan's grandfather, noted

author and literary critic Hagop Oshagan, is buried in Aleppo, and

was a 1915 Armenian Genocide survivor who joined his compatriots in

creating the Armenian Diaspora, which survives and thrives to this day.

 

"We need to feel a responsibility to our families," Oshagan said. "As

diasporans, we are from different countries and we need to remember

our major diasporan cities: Beirut, Aleppo, and now Los Angeles and

New York. We share a sense of responsibility toward our nation when

our nation is suffering in some part of the world. We are suffering

when they are suffering. The Syria-Armenian community is part of the

Armenian nation."

 

Oshagan also emphasized that the Oct. 26 effort was not merely "an

educational event." Rather, he said, "This is an event to connect

with our nation and we want this to be a successful fundraiser. The

organizing committee here in Detroit is finding ways of creating unity

because no matter where we are from, we are one nation. Fundraisers

have occurred in many places and now it is our turn to help."

 

The program's emotional underpinning was also expressed by Dr. Taline

Hagopian in her recitation of poet Baruyr Sevag's "Gank ou ge Menank,"

which was translated into English in the evening's program booklet.

"We are few, but they call us Armenians," she recited in Armenian.

 

"When we were forced to leave our own land, wherever we reached,

wherever we went, everywhere we left an indelible trace. We do not

put ourselves above anyone, but we know ourselves. We are called

Armenians."

 

Guest speaker Khatchig Mouradian continued to highlight the

genocide-diaspora connection to current events in Syria with his

slideshow and presentation entitled, "When Elephants Fight: The

Syrian-Armenian Community in Crisis." The Armenian Weekly editor,

journalist, and genocide scholar explained, "When elephants fight,

it is the grass that suffers most," and in today's Syrian conflict,

the citizens are the "grass" that is being flattened by opposing

political forces.

 

Mouradian shared fresh news about Syria's Armenian community and

political conditions on the ground and in the region, noting that

the ancient cities of Aleppo and Damascus are living museums that are

being destroyed and looted as communities are caught in the conflict.

 

"Several dozen Armenians have been killed that we know of," he added.

 

Mouradian offered the poignant story of an Armenian who left Der Zor

to move to Aleppo, thinking the city would be safer that the small

desert community. Shortly after his move, he was killed by a bomb.

 

Mouradian used the story to connect 1915 genocide survivors and

orphans who arrived in Der Zor from the death marches to the current

death and injury resulting from the continued political upheaval,

which envelops Armenians whose links to that past connect them to an

unstable present and an unknowable future.

 

"With the link to Der Zor, we have come full circle," Mouradian

observed.

 

Concerns over Syria's Armenian and other minority populations center

on preserving civil and religious rights, staving off censorship

and oppression, and being watchful of Turkey's influential role

in the Syrian conflict and its pointed effort with other allies

to overthrow the Assad regime and impose its own agenda. It's an

agenda that threatens to result in chaos and havoc in a country whose

minority Christian populations "are not in the mix for cutting deals"

with big political players.

 

Some economic experts in Ankara view and approach Aleppo as a province

of Turkey, Mouradian added, noting the additional destabilizing threats

of the Kurdish Question and Turkey's continuing denial of the Armenian

Genocide as factors that impact the Syrian-Armenian community and its

future security. "This is a huge regional game that Turkey is trying

to play."

 

With regard to diasporan relief efforts, Mouradian reported that

supplies are reaching the Syrian-Armenian community. He also showed

a video clip of activity at a school that recently opened in Yerevan

for about 250 children of Syrian-Armenian families who escaped the

country for a safer haven in the homeland.

 

"But for every child who is in Armenia, there are 10-20 more in Syria

who deserve their education, and they need our help," Mouradian said.

 

He concluded his presentation by noting that the Armenian community

has survived in Syria by supporting the state, and that the current

official community position is that the Syrian-Armenian community

is neutral.

 

United Committee co-chair Shakeh Basmajian thanked attendees and

donors, reminding them that the community has responded to emergency

situations in the past-including helping Beirut's Armenian community

during the Lebanese civil war and in the aftermath of the 1988 Armenian

earthquake-and must again respond to this newest crisis facing Syria's

Armenian community.

 

"The time to help is now," Basmajian said, noting that with the

Christmas and New Year gift-giving season approaching, families should

"promise to give one gift less and use that money to donate to the

Armenians of Syria."

 

The evening began with an invocation by St. Sarkis host-church pastor

Rev. Fr. Hrant Kevorkian and ended with a benediction by Rev. Dr.

 

Vahan Tootikian of the Armenian Congregational Church and Father Andon

Atamian of St. Vartan Armenian Catholic Church. The national anthems

were sung by Rubik Mailian, who was accompanied by Helen Movsessian.

Featured musicians perform a group finale at HyeAid Concert to benefit

Syrian-Armenian Relief Fund

 

 

PASADENA-Veteran's Day 2012 will be forever imprinted in the minds of

almost 3,000 people who attended the HyeAID benefit concert to help

the Armenian community in Syria at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in

Pasadena, California.

 

The artists from local and as far away as Armenia, England and France

literally rocked the house and the audience, young and old, responded.

 

They were moved with the songs of sorrow, longing and anguish, and

laughed at the comedic remarks of the artists, who switched to upbeat

songs to cheer up the audience.

 

The variety program started with the classics performed by the Hi-Am

Quartet. Throughout the program, scenes of destruction of homes,

schools, stores, homes for the elderly, group home for children, and

churches, including the Armenian Genocide memorial church complex in

Der Zor, were shared with the audience.

 

Syrian Armenian Relief Fund (SARF) Executive Committee Chairperson,

Zaven Khanjian, spoke on behalf of the 10 organizations that make

up SARF. Western Prelate Arch. Moushegh Mardirossian, Diocese former

Primate Arch. Vache Hovsepian, Rev. Fr. Krikor Chahinian, and Rev.

 

Jospeh Matossian represented their churches, also present was

the Prelate of Damascus, Bishop Armash Nalbandian. In addition,

Counsel General of the Republic of Armenia, Grigor Hovhannissian,

Avedik Izmirlian of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Central

Committee, Vazken Khodanian of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party,

Armenian Relief Society Central Executive Chairperson Vicky Marashlian

and member Ani Keshishian, and Western U.S.A. Regional Executive

Lena Bozoyan, and Armenian General Benevolent Union representative

Tomig Alexanian. Also present was Heritage Party Chairperson Raffi

Hovhannisian.

 

The concert was organized in association with Artists for Kids.

 

Khanjian's upbeat message reaffirmed that the Syrian Armenian

community will prevail, it will resurrect and it will resume it's

role as the overflowing mother of all Diaspora Communities. Showing

very old photo of very young scouts marching on the sports field,

his poetic message was that the young scouts will return. He invited

three students, representing their schools, which collected donations

as Grand Sponsors of the event, along with Karoun Dairies, represented

by Antranig Baghdassarian.

 

Aleeque Marselian from Vahan and Anoush Chamlian Armenian School,

Tamar Gharibian from Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School, and

Eddie Hovhannesian from Holy Martyrs Ferrahian High School, also

representing Cabayan Elementery School, handed the checks from their

respective schools. Armineh Khatchatourian, Chamlian Board Chair;

Rita Kaprielian, Vice Principal of Chamlian; Dr. Alina Dorian,

Principal of Pilibos; and John Kossakian, Principal of Ferrahian were

present, along with many students, faculty members and administrators,

collectively showing that the youth have taken the lead in lending a

hand to their less fortunate compatriots in Syria. Khanjian read the

thank you letter sent by Arch. Shahan Sarkissian, Prelate of Aleppo,

on behalf of the three denominations and the community. It is hoped

that $250,000, raised from this concert and other fundraising events,

will be forwarded in the near future.

 

The ethno-rock group, Element Band, continued the program with soloist

Soseh Keshishyan. Element Band members also individually accompanied

some of the vocalists, who followed them later during the program.

 

An 89-year old young soloist Souren Khavejian, who was originally from

Syria, was accompanied on the accordion by Ara Dabandjian. The Dirty

Diamond, an LA-Based band performed next, with Sam Babayan with the

lead vocalist on the guitar. They were followed by Charming Liars,

who flew from London. Their guitarist, Karnig Manoukian, expressed

his excitement in sharing the stage with so many fantastic artists.

 

The youth were present once again, as Armen Movsisyan appeared, and

then was joined by his Guitar Studio students. The VIZA band was next,

a band for whom contributing what they can is a way of life. Lilit

Pipoyan from Armenia sang and played very moving lyrics on the piano,

then on the guitar.

 

Actor-director Vahe Berberian, explained that he had a chance to

visit Syria four years ago, and felt their warmth, nationalistic and

welcoming spirit. He urged everyone to assist the Syrian Armenians,

since they are a part of us, and then introduced his idol, Arto

Tuncboyaciyan. Tuncboyaciyan roared the audience with his comedic

jests, remembered the martyr soldiers dying on the Artsakh border,

urged people to act as human beings, not make bad things happen due to

their greediness, and speak about problems, lest they fester forever.

 

A group of young singers accompanies him and once again, the youth

outnumbered the adults.

 

TV personality and journalist Arshalouys Tarpinian applauded the

high level of artistry during the program, praised the audience for

supporting the benefit concert and quoted from Karekin Njdeh regarding

the success of our endeavors with collective responsibility. She

introduced composer Ruben Hakhverdyan. Hakhverdyan was eager to explain

the truth about the Armenian spirit, flexible yet protective of its

culture and values. He explained that we hyphenate our Armenian-ism,

but the Syrian Armenians are just us, our people.

 

Producer-Director Carla Garabedian observed that we stand in solidarity

with our brothers and sisters in Syria, and introduced the father

and son team, Khatchadoor and Serj Tankian, who performed next.

 

Serj Tankian remarked that "all the artists that played tonight

were incredible."

 

The curtains closed after one more song with all the vocalists

on the stage, a nostalgic song about longing and being home-sick,

"Tercheyi Mdkov".

 

Following the concert, Aram Alajajian, of the Artists for Kids,

thanked all the participating artists, and remarked that this was

"the greatest event we ever put together. It was really a crown."

Turkey camps, training hub for Syria insurgents: Turkish party

Evidence shows that refugee camps in Turkey's border with Syria are

being used as a cover for military training, Press TV reports.

 

 

`Here in Turkey's border are five refugee camps. There are seventy

five armed men in one of the camps alone. That camp is filled with

former Syrian army generals. They are being trained in the day and at

nights they go to fight in Syria. We tried to make an official visit,

they told us to come back after ten days,' Coskan Sonmez, Turkey's

Republican People's Party spokesman told Press TV.

 

Sonmez said many people living in the camps, where Turkey says

refugees from Syria receive humanitarian aid, are foreigners who come

to fight against the Syrian government.

 

`There are Moroccans, Libyans, Tunisians and Africans all coming from

our own airport. They go to the camp and fight in Syria. They are all

making money. For every five Alavis they kill, they make 5,000 Syrian

Lira,' Sonmez added.

 

He further said that there are also Americans, Israelis and Mexicans

in the camps.

 

Press TV's producer got in contact with one of the former Syrian

generals who have joined the insurgents. The general admitted that

there are weapons in the camps.

 

Tensions have been running high between Syria and Turkey, with

Damascus accusing Turkey -- along with Saudi Arabia and Qatar -- of

backing a deadly insurgency that has claimed the lives of many

Syrians, including security and army personnel.

 

In an interview with the Turkish daily Cumhuriyet in July, Syrian

President Bashar al-Assad said Ankara `has supplied all logistic

support to the terrorists who have killed our people.'

EU recognizes Syrian opposition as 'legitimate' representative of the Syrian people

 

 

European Union has recognized a newly formed Syrian opposition coalition as a “legitimate representatives of the aspirations of the Syrian people.”

The Syrian National Coalition was formed on 11 November when the country’s disparate opposition leaders met in Doha. The body replaced Syrian National Council which had been criticized for being ineffective.

Last week France was the first European country to recognize the coalition as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people and a future democratic government.

The newly formed coalition has also been recognized by the Gulf Cooperation Council and Turkey.

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian Genocide Martyrs Memorial Church, also known as the Holy Martyrs Armenian Church, in Deir ez-Zor, Syria, has been severely damaged as a result of shelling, as revealed by video footage taken by locals and shared on YouTube, The Armenian Weekly reported.

The lower level of the museum and memorial, where the remains of victims of the Armenian Genocide are kept, seems to be in ruins as well. It is unclear from the footage whether they were removed prior to the attacks.

Deir ez-Zor has witnessed clashes between the rebels and the Syrian Army since the beginning of the armed conflict in the country. The few Armenian families living in the city left months ago.

Hundreds of thousands of Armenian deportees were massacred in Deir ez-Zor in the summer of 1916.

The memorial was consecrated in 1991.

His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, was informed about the details of the incident during a phone conversation with Aleppo National Primacy. Admitting that the Memorial was not the target of shelling His Holiness said stated restoration will be possible only after security is ensured in Deir ez-Zor.

CLASHES FLARE UP NEAR THE ARMENIAN REGION OF KESSAB

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. The situation is intense in the

Syrian border town of Kessab located in Latakia Governorate. The Press

Secretary of the Armenian National Prelacy in Aleppo Jirayr Reisian

informed "Armenpress" about this. In addition he said that clashes

of the governmental forces and armed rebels flared up in that region.

 

According to Reisyan the clashes do not take place right in the

Armenian-populated regions, notwithstanding they heavily damaged

the electric station and now the region is entirely deprived of the

electricity. Both cell phones and civil telephone service are out

of order.

 

As to the situation in Aleppo it is rather calm, nothing has changed.

 

The Arabian mass media also state about the heavy clashes in Latakia

Governorate. It was announced that bloody fights are going on in Beit

Firas, Beit Auan, Saraya al Khadra, Beit al Hayk and other villages

near Kessab.

Authorities in Kuwait are willing to send humanitarian aid to Syrian Armenians who currently stay in Armenia, it emerged following a meeting of Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and his Kuwaiti counterpart this week.

 

Nalbandyan met with His Excellency Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, as part of his official visit to the oil-rich Gulf country on November 19, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.

 

During the meeting, among other things Nalbandyan reportedly expressed concern about the situation in Syria and mentioned that due to the confrontation Armenia continued to receive thousands of Syrian Armenian refugees.

 

The Armenian minister also stressed that it was important for Armenia to develop relations with the Arab world in general and Kuwait in particular.

 

The Armenian Ministry said during their meeting Nalbandyan and the senior Kuwaiti official focused on issues regarding cooperation within international organizations, as well as some regional and international topics. The two officials also spoke about the realization of the agreements of the heads of the two states, the widening of the legal sphere, development of the cooperation in the spheres of trade and economy, banking, agriculture, healthcare, education and culture.

Turkey has asked NATO to deploy Patriot missiles on its territory, the alliance said on Wednesday, to help it defend itself against any Syrian attacks.

"Such a deployment would augment Turkey's air defence capabilities to defend the population and territory of Turkey," NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in a statement. "It would contribute to the de-escalation of the crisis along NATO's south-eastern border."

 

Rasmussen said the alliance would discuss the request "without delay".

 

According to local media reports, two batteries of the Patriot Missile Air-Defence Systems – most likely, from Germany may be supplied to Turkey.

 

The confirmation comes two weeks after Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu announced that he had requested NATO to install the surface-to-air missiles in near Turkish border with Syria. Prime Minster Recip Tayyip Erdogan later denied that Turkey had made the request.

 

Davutoglu said that the missiles were needed to bolster defenses on its border with Syria. The surface-to-air missiles will be able to shoot down aircraft up to 160 kilometers away.­

 

Patriot is a long-range, all-weather and all-altitude defense system capable of countering tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and advanced aircraft.

Citizen Involved with Terrorists in Aleppo: Terrorist Groups Kill Innocents, Steal Houses in the Name of Islam

ALEPPO, (SANA) - Citizen Ahmad Salah al-Saleh, who got involved with the armed terrorist groups in Aleppo, stressed that these groups comprise of thieves and murderers who kill the innocents, steal their houses and set them on fire in the name of religion and Islam.

 

Interviewed by the Syrian TV, al-Saleh said that he lives with his family in Bazaa village in al-Bab city in the countryside of Aleppo when a large number of the so-called 'free army' entered the village despite the residents' resistance.

 

He added that he was beaten, tortured and threatened to join the terrorists otherwise they will kill his family.

 

Al-Saleh narrated the details of his participation in the attacks against the citizens who rejected the presence of terrorists in the village, the killing and the looting acts and setting fire to civilians' houses.

 

He said that the battalion to which he belonged "Saif Allah al Maslool" comprised sheikhs from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar and Chechnya, adding that they were receiving their salaries from Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

 

Al-Saleh added that he communicated with the authorities which advised him to benefit from the amnesty decree and surrender himself and weapon which he did.

 

He advised every member of the free army to turn himself in and return to his homeland and family.

Security Council a list of 143 foreign nationals, which in accordance

and Turkish citizens involved in the aforementioned list. As reports

is stated that all those mercenaries had been fighting on the side

of the armed rebels. Alongside with the citizens of Qatar, Tunisia,

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Afghanistan, Jordan, Turkey, Yemen,

Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Algeria, Chad and Pakistan there are terrorists

from Azerbaijan, Chechnya, and Palestine as well.

 

The independent expert information has been introduced to the UN

before, in accordance with which there are militants from 11 countries

fighting on the side of the opposition of Syria.

 

On October 19, 2012 Syrian SANA news agency stated that Azerbaijani

citizen Hasin Ghazl was killed by the governmental forces in Aleppo.

 

The investigation discovered that Azerbaijani terrorist appeared in

Syria via the Turkish border. In frames of the anti-terrorist action

the governmental forces killed another Azerbaijani citizen on November

9. His name was Zaur Islamov.

 

The President of Syria Bashar Asad blamed the Turkish government

for the disorder in the country. He announced that "Turkey bears

responsibility for the bloodshed in Syria."

The leader of new Western-backed Syrian opposition coalition is a former supporter of bin Laden and a corporate lobbyist, a political analyst tells Press TV.

 

The US has installed a new puppet council, the Syrian National Coalition for Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (SNCROF), with Mouaz al-Khatib at the helm, said Griffin Tarpley, an author and historian from Washington, in an exclusive interview with Press TV.

 

“He (Khatib) is of course a secret member of the Muslim Brotherhood controlled by Saudi Arabia, and he’s somebody who was a big admirer of bin Laden in the early 90s. He got into trouble for supporting bin Laden against [former Syrian President] Hafez Assad back 20 years ago,” he said.

 

“In reality, al-Khatib is an executive for Shell Oil. He’s a lobbyist for Shell Oil. Not just Shell Oil but specifically the headquarters branch of Royal Dutch Shell which is a British-Dutch corporation,” Tarpley pointed out.

 

“Now we have got the Syrian National Coalition which is much more radical at the bottom, much more ‘al-Qaeda’ at the bottom, but it’s got this figurehead at the top,” the analyst noted.

 

The SNCROF was formed on November 11 when the opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad agreed to form a coalition to overthrow the president, urging their sympathizers to provide them with more advanced weaponry.

 

The SNCROF was immediately recognized by the Arab League, Turkey and France.

 

France was the first Western power to recognize the newly-formed opposition and raised the prospects of openly arming the insurgents. Monzer Makhous is to become the coalition’s envoy to the European country.

 

The EU and US have also declared support for the opposition bloc, but have fallen short of recognizing it.

 

Syria has been experiencing a deadly unrest since March 2011 and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence
