Nov 25,2012

A newly released video shows members of an al-Qaeda-affiliated insurgent group in Syria equipped with US-made weapons, Press TV reports.

The insurgents in uniform are reportedly based in the Jabal Turkmen mountains in northern Syria, along the Turkish border. They are shown carrying US M-16 rifles.

Another video also shows insurgents riding a vehicle with the Saudi flag in the eastern city of Deir al-Zour.

Damascus has repeatedly criticized the United States and its regional allies including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey over funding and arming insurgents fighting the government forces.

Syrian Truth l Globalresearch l NATO Missile Deployment Means “No-Fly Zone” For Syria

Nov 25,2012

The planned deployment by NATO countries of Patriot air defence systems on Turkey’s Syria border will actually amount to the imposition of a no-fly zone for Syrian aircraft in circumvention of the UN Security Council.

The opinion has been voiced by the leading research fellow of the Russian Institute for Oriental Studies, Vladimir Kudelev.

He feels that Patriot systems may drastically influence the fighting between government troops and the opposition in the north of Syria, since the militants will thus get a 200 kilometre-to 250 kilometre-wide “umbrella” all along the Syrian-Turkish border.

The deployment of Patriots would also undermine the role of the UN Security Council, which, experts feel, would hardly authorize any proposal to impose a no-fly zone for Syrian aircraft.

NATO shows great interest in deployment of Patriot missile air-defence systems

Plans for the deployment of the Patriot Missile Air-Defence Systems on the Turkish-Syrian border are defensive in character, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in a telephone talk with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Earlier Moscow voiced its concern over the militarization of that region.

The above-mentioned telephone talk was held on the initiative of the NATO Secretary General. Moscow says that Rasmussen wanted to clarify the situation with the deployment of the Patriot Missile Air-Defence Systems on the Turkish territory. Ankara filed a relevant request to NATO on November 21st. The information that appeared in the press more than once last month said that Turkey was making preparations for appealing to Brussels. Possibly, acting in this way Ankara wanted to indirectly put pressure on its NATO allies. As you know, till recently NATO was strongly against getting involved in a conflict between Turkey and Syria, a political analyst, Stanislav Tarasov, says.

“They started asking NATO to interfere in the conflict, using the Alliance’s Clause No.5 – the defence of territories. Which means that they wanted to drag NATO into the conflict and thus, to ensure its military presence in the region. NATO said “No”. Then they resorted to Clause No. 4 – the provision of help”.

NATO said that it would consider Turkey’s request without any delay. And Germany’s Foreign Ministry said that Turkey’s request should be met without any delay. Media reports even said that Berlin was ready not only to provide the Patriot Missile Air-Defence Systems to Turkey but also to send 120 Bundeswehr soldiers to the region. Turkey has not only moved its forces to its border with Syria but has also approved a law enabling it to bring its troops into the territory of its neighbor in case of a military threat. The reason for such a large- scale militarization was firing missiles into the Syrian territory, which official Damascus called an accident. Any escalation of this conflict is inadmissible, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on November 23rd. Moscow is well aware of Turkey’s concern as well as of NATO’s arguments but what is important in this case is the potential, not intentions – that is why any militarization on the

Turkish-Syrian border may lead to an uncontrollable turn of events, the Russian minister said.

“Any accumulation of arms creates certain risks and urges all those who would like like to resort to the exterior factor of force to finally use it. We believe that this will not happen, and that all outside players will display maximum responsibility in assessing the on-going developments in the region’.

In the diplomatic language this means that the events in Syria may start developing according to the Libyan Scenario, experts say. As you know, the opposition is losing its support, and Assad has a military superiority in Syria now, an Oriental studies expert, Azhdar Kurtov, says.

“The Syrian-Turkish border has a sophisticated mountain relief. Under such conditions, combat aviation is a very effective method of fighting against the rebels. Thus, if Turkey deploys the Patriot Missile Air-Defence Systems on its territory, it will be able to block Syria using its own aviation in the border regions on its own territory, which may change the turn of military developments in the region. When the overthrowing of the Gaddafi regime was under way, a no-fly zone was established over Libya. Something like that may be created near the Turkish-Syrian border”.

Moscow’s fears may also be caused by something that is not directly linked with the crisis in Syria, a Turkish political analyst, Barysh Adybelli, says.

“Moscow believes that in case the Patriot Misslile Air-Defence Systems are deployed in Turkey, they can be used as one of the elements of the early warning system – that is, as one of the elements of the European missile defence system which the USA is ardently defending by now”.

Official Ankara reacted to Moscow’s statements on November 23rd. Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan called Moscow’s reaction to a possible deployment of the Patriot Missile Air-Defence systems erroneous, adding that Russia is trying to present Turkey’s domestic issue as its own problem. Fears remain though.

Syrian Turth l Globalresearch l François Hollande wants to sponsor Islamic emirates

by Thierry Meyssan

France claims to be at the forefront of the fight for freedom in Syria. In fact, she brazenly violates the basic principles of international law to fulfill her dream of re-colonization of a country she held from 1923 to 1944. This ambition has led her to support the creation of Islamic Emirates at the risk of opening the door to a world confrontation

Syrian Truth l Press TV l France gives $1.5mn to Syria insurgents

Nov 26,2012

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius says the country has allocated 1.2 million euros (1.5 million dollars) in emergency aid to the newly-formed Syrian opposition, known as the National Coalition.

Fabius said in a statement on Monday that France, which is the first European country to recognize the Syrian opposition, wants to help the so-called National Coalition fight against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

France’s recent move comes on the eve of a visit to the capital Paris by Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev, who has sharply censured France’s support of the insurgents in Syria, saying it is “completely unacceptable in international law.”

On November 15, the French foreign minister said that the European Union’s arms embargo against Syria should be removed so that France can respond to a plea for “specialized weapons” by the leader of Syrian opposition.

The so-called Syrian National Coalition for Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (SNCROF) was formed on November 11 when the opponents of President Assad agreed to form a broad coalition to overthrow the Syrian president, urging their foreign supporters to provide them with more advanced weaponry.

Many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil that began in Syria in March 2011. The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country.

Secret Plane Carried Cash Stockpile from Russia to Syria

This past summer, as the Syrian economy began to unravel and the military pressed hard against an armed rebellion, a Syrian government plane ferried what flight records describe as more than 200 tons of "bank notes" from Moscow.

The records of overflight requests were obtained by ProPublica. The flights occurred during a period of escalating violence in a conflict that has left tens of thousands of people dead since fighting broke out in March 2011.

The regime of Bashar al-Assad is increasingly in need of cash to stay afloat and continue financing the military's efforts to crush the uprising. U.S. and European sanctions, including a ban on minting Syrian currency, have damaged the country's economy. As a result, Syria lost access to an Austrian bank that had printed its bank notes.

[RELATED: Report: Russia Stopped Syria From Gassing Rebels]

"Having currency that you can put into circulation is certainly something that is important in terms of running an economy and more so in an economy that is become more cash-based as things deteriorate," said Daniel Glaser, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes. "It is certainly something the Syrian government wants to do, to pay soldiers or pay anybody anything."

According to the flight records, which are in English and Farsi, eight round-trip flights between Damascus International Airport and Moscow's Vnukovo Airport each carried 30 tons of bank notes back to Syria.

Syrian and Russian officials did not respond to ProPublica's questions about the authenticity and accuracy of the flight records. It is not possible to know whether the logs accurately described the cargo or what else might have been on board the flights. Nor do the logs specify the type of currency.

But ProPublica confirmed nearly all of the flights took place through international plane-tracking services, photos by aviation enthusiasts, and air traffic control recordings.

Each time the manifest listed "Bank Notes" as its cargo, the plane traveled a circuitous route. Instead of flying directly over Turkish airspace, as civilian planes have, the Ilyushin-76 cargo plane, operated by the Syrian Air Force, avoided Turkey and flew over Iraq, Iran, and Azerbaijan.

[RELATED: Documents Show Russia Ordered Syria Shoot Down Turkish Jet]

The flight path between Syria and Russia described in the manifests.

Tensions have been rising between Syria and Turkey since the spring. Last month, Turkey forced down a Syrian passenger plane traveling from Moscow. Turkey suspected the flight of carrying military cargo but officials have not said what, if anything, was confiscated.

If the flight manifests are accurate, a total of 240 tons of bank notes moved from Moscow to Damascus over a 10-week period beginning July 9th and ending on September 15th.

U.S. officials interviewed said evidence of monetary assistance, like military cooperation, point to a pattern of Russian support for Assad that extends from concrete aid to protecting Syria from U.N. sanctions.

In September, 2011, six months into the violence, the European Union imposed sanctions that prohibited its members from minting or supplying new Syrian coinage or banknotes. In a statement, the EU said the sanctions aimed "to obstruct those who are leading the crackdown in Syria and to restrict the funding being used to perpetrate violence against the Syrian people." At the time, Syria's currency was being minted by Oesterreichische Banknoten- und Sicherheitsdruck GmbH, a subsidiary of Austria's Central Bank.

[RELATED: Syria Rejects U.N. Peacekeeping Proposal and Resume Shelling on Homs]

President Obama has issued five Executive Orders that prevent members of the Assad regime from entering the United States and accessing the U.S. financial system.

"Increasingly, it is more difficult to finance the war machine and the cost of the war is becoming more expensive for the Assad regime," said one U.S. official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "Targeted sanctions on those leading the violence are working and start to bite into their pocket books."

Russia appears to be helping Syria blunt the impact of the sanctions.

This past June, Reuters reported that Russia had begun printing new Syrian pounds and that an initial shipment of bank notes had already arrived. The report was denied by the Syrian Central Bank, which claimed the only new money in circulation were bills that had replaced damaged or worn bank notes. Such a swap, the bank contended, would have no effect on the economy.

On August 3rd, the official Syrian news agency SANA, reporting from a news conference in Moscow with Syrian and Russian economic officials, quoted Syrian officials acknowledging that Russia is printing money. Qadr Jamil, Syria's deputy prime minister for Economic Affairs, was quoted by SANA as calling the deal with Russia a "triumph," over sanctions.

Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad al-Jleilati said that Russia was providing both replacement notes and additional currency to, as SANA put it, "reflect the country's changing GDP."

Al-Jleilati said the money would have no effect on inflation. Printing new notes beyond simply replacing old ones could undermine Syria's already battered currency.

At the time of the meeting, at least 30 tons of currency had already been delivered, according to the flight records, and another 210 tons would be delivered in subsequent flights.

In its regional economic outlook released earlier this month, the International Monetary Fund noted that Syria's currency has lost 44 percent of its value since March 2011, trading for about 70 pounds to the dollar compared with about 47 pounds when the conflict began.

Ibrahim Saif, a political economist based in Jordan and a resident scholar at the Carnegie Middle East Center said 30 tons of bank notes twice a week is a significant amount for a country like Syria.

"I truly believe it's not only that they're exchanging old money for new notes. They are printing money because they need new notes," Saif said.

"Most of the government revenue that comes from taxes, in terms of other services, it's almost now dried up," noted Saif. Yet, "they continue to pay salaries. They have not shown any signs of weakness in fulfilling their domestic obligations. The only way they can do this is to get some sort of cash in the market."

Before the unrest broke out, Syria had about $17 billion in foreign currency reserves. Saif said he and other economists in the region estimate they now have about $6-8 billion in reserves, dwindling about $500 million a month for salaries and supplies to keep the government running.

In Moscow, the Syrian finance minister had said that his country required additional foreign currency reserves, which Russia may provide in the form of loans.

"It's possible the Syrians are acquiring foreign currency reserves, either Euros or US dollars, which they would need to conduct any serious commerce," said Juan Zarate, who served as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes during the Bush administration.

Zarate noted that other countries, when faced with economic sanctions, have leaned on allies for foreign currency reserves. China supplied North Korea with such funds in the past and Venezuela agreed to sell reserves to Iran.

Syria's currency is still traded on open markets, but there is limited on-the-ground information about the economy, including inflation.

Officials at the IMF "have not been able to get direct information about Syria for at least a year," Masood Ahmed, director of the group's Middle East and Central Asia department, told reporters at a conference in Tokyo last month.

Glaser, at Treasury, declined to put a figure on Syria's current reserves but said the Syrian economy is suffering in part from a lack of tourism and a ban on oil sales, both of which provided Damascus with foreign currency. "There is significant inflation in the country. It can be caused by adding new currency or not having foreign reserves to prop up the existing currency."

Saudi-owned news agency Al Arabiya are touting a massive leak of Syrian intelligence documents, and their first leak alleges to show Russia was the one who ordered Syria take down the Turkish fighter jet in June, and for Syria to kill and dispose of the pilots. Syria shot down a Turkish F-4 Phantom in June, seemingly at random. Initial reports said the two pilots were recovered and in good health, but they never turned up. The plane was recovered in international waters, but the pilots weren't discovered until a few days later. Assad apologized for shooting down the plane and offering that he thought it was an Israeli jet as an excuse.

Syrian Truth | English | Press TV l Turkey to deploy NATO Patriot missiles on border with Syria.

Nov 27,2012

The Turkish military says advanced NATO Patriot missiles are set to be deployed on Turkey’s border with Syria.

A Turkish military statement said on Monday that a joint Turkish-NATO team would assess where to station the missiles and the number of foreign troops needed to operate them.

This week, Turkey asked its NATO partners to deploy the surface-to-air Patriot missiles to protect its border with Syria. On November 21, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the alliance would consider the Turkish request “without delay.”

The Turkish government says that the missiles are needed to counter what it views as potential military threats from Syria.

The move is widely seen as the beginning of NATO’s active involvement in the Syria situation.

The deployment has angered Damascus, which calls the move provocative.

On Friday, Damascus censured Ankara’s plan to deploy the Patriot missiles along the Syrian border, calling it another act of provocation by the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"Syria holds Erdogan responsible for the militarization of the situation at the border between Syria and Turkey, and the increase of tension," an official said on Syrian state television.

In Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday that the Turkish move could spark a regional conflagration, adding that any deployment of Patriot missiles by Turkey could tempt Ankara to use the weapons and spark a "very serious armed conflict" involving NATO.

"I understand that no one has any intention to see NATO get sucked into the Syrian crisis," Lavrov stated, adding that "the more arms are being accumulated, the greater the risk that they will be used.”

Syrian Truth l Press TV l NATO surveys possible missile sites in Turkey

Nov 28,2012

Ankara says NATO has started surveying a number of sites along the Turkish border with Syria for the controversial deployment of Patriot missiles.

According to Turkish media reports, the number of Patriot batteries and their location, as well as the number of foreign troops needed to operate them will be decided after the visiting team reports back to the Western military alliance.

Is this the reason why we have not seen or heard from our friend Johannes from Aleppo?

Blow we see accusations and counter accusations flying around, that it was sabotaged by the rebels/terrorists to be or deliberately shut down by the government.

What the regime should do is carpet bomb and flatten every hole in the borders, particularly those from furkey, where all the illegal and contraband mercenaries and weapons infiltrate from. Even if they must flatten ankakra in the process.

Many suggest that NATO in general and the US in particular should intervene. Of course!! That is, after they can drag their rotten asses out of Afghanistan, asszveristan ,Pakistan, Iraq and other quagmires. Remember Korea for over 60 years?

An aside. Why is the US still there with over 100,000 soldiers enabling them to engage in industry and manufacturing when every other car and every other electronic gadget is made in Korea, making their ecomomy surpass that of Japan and the US?

http://news.yahoo.com/global-hacking-network-declares-internet-war-syria-142548644.html

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Global hacking network Anonymous said it will shut down Syrian government websites around the world in response to a countrywide Internet blackout believed to be aimed at silencing the opposition to President Bashar al-Assad.

Syria was plunged into communication darkness on Thursday when Internet connectivity stopped at midday. Land lines and mobile phones networks were also seriously disrupted.

The Syrian government said "terrorists" had attacked Internet lines but the opposition and human rights groups suspect it to be the work of the authorities.

Opposition activists have used the Internet extensively to further their cause by publishing footage of aerial strikes and graphic images of civilian casualties. In the absence of a free press, they have used social media to disseminate information during the uprising and communicate with journalists abroad.

Anonymous, a loose affiliation of hacking groups that opposes Internet censorship, said it will remove from the Internet all web assets belonging to Assad's government that are outside Syria, starting with embassies.

By 1000 GMT on Friday, the website for Syria's embassy in Belgium was down but the embassy in China - which Anonymous said it would target first - was operating. Most government ministry websites were down although this could be due to the blackout.

Several networking experts said that it was highly unlikely that the lines had been sabotaged by anti-Assad forces.

CloudFlare, a firm that helps accelerate Internet traffic, said on its blog that saboteurs would have had to simultaneously sever three undersea cables into the port city of Tartous and also an overland cable through Turkey in order to cut off the entire country's Internet access.

"That is unlikely to have happened," CloudFlare said.

The government has been accused of cutting communications in previous assaults on rebel-held areas. Anonymous said Assad's government had physically "pulled the plug out of the wall".

"As we discovered in Egypt, where the dictator (Hosni) Mubarak did something similar - this is not damage that can be easily or quickly repaired," it added, referring to an Internet outage during the early days of the 2011 uprising in Egypt.

French foreign ministry spokesman Philippe Lalliot said the communications cut was of a matter of "extreme concern".

"It is another demonstration of what the Damascus regime is doing to hold its people hostage. We call on the Damascus regime to reestablish communications without delay," he said.

Rebels have seized a series of army bases across Syria this month, exposing Assad's loss of control in northern and eastern regions and on Thursday fighting on the outskirts of the capital blocked access to the international airport.

More than 40,000 people have been killed since the uprising began in March 2011, according to opposition groups.

Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, said the Internet cut could signal that Assad is seeking to hide the truth of what is happening in the country from the outside world.

Syrian authorities have severely restricted non-state media from working in the country.

The hacker collective has staged cyber attacks on the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and Britain's Serious Organised Crime Agency. Earlier this month, The Israeli government said it logged more than 44 million hacking attempts in just a few days during its military assault on Gaza after Anonymous waged a similar campaign.

Four British nationals are being trained to join foreign-backed militants in Syria at a camp run by a radical Muslim preacher in northern Lebanon.

In a recent interview with Britain's the Sun newspaper, 52-year-old Omar Bakri boasted of his military-style courses for fanatics on the lawless border with Lebanon.

He said one recruit was a computer programmer in his 20s from London, while another was a Midlands-based IT worker.

And he claimed: “Others like them will follow.”

“Of the four, two of them have Syrian connections. But they are all born in UK and have professional backgrounds,” Bakri added.

Bakri moved to Britain in 1986 and stayed there until 2005, during which he praised the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001.

The Syrian-born man alleges to have trained “many fighters” from other countries, including Germany and France, since moving to Lebanon.

NEOCONS ARE NOT DEAD …YET

Dejavu all over again.

Remember those BIG LIES by the unholy trinity by the neocons- Feith, Wolfowitz and Perle, all from a certain religio-ethnicity who lied and lied again about the (non)-existence of WMD in Iraq, that sucked the US into attacking Baghdad, a nasty war that cost the lives of thousands of beautiful American boys and girls? LIES and more LIES!! And Ms. Clitorston is mouthing all those LIES.

Seems they are still spreading their LIES again, to once again sucker the US to the deserts of Syria.

When will the US once again become America and stop being a suburb of telassviv and ankakaran?

Will the Armenian cemeteries in Der Zor become cemeteries of American boys and girls?

Clinton Warns Syria Against Using Chemical Weapons

By MICHAEL R. GORDON

PRAGUE — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday warned President Bashar al-Assad of Syria not to use chemical weapons and said that the United States was prepared to act if he ignored the warning.

“This is a red line for the United States,” Mrs. Clinton said. “I am not going to telegraph in any specifics what we would do in the event of credible evidence that the Assad regime has resorted to using chemical weapons against their own people. But suffice it to say we are certainly planning to take action if that eventuality were to occur.”

There have been signs in recent days of heightened activity at some of Syria’s chemical weapons sites, according to American and Israeli officials familiar with intelligence reports. Mrs. Clinton did not confirm the intelligence reports or say what sort of activity was occurring.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry, in a swift response, said the government “would not use chemical weapons, if it had them, against its own people under any circumstances.” The statement was reported on Syrian state television and on the Lebanese channel LBC.

Mrs. Clinton, who made her comments after meeting with Karel Schwarzenberg, the foreign minister of the Czech Republic, indicated that the two sides had discussed the situation in Syria, including the potential chemical weapons threat.

Mr. Schwarzenberg described the situation in Syria as “rather chaotic” and “highly dangerous.” He said that Czech troops who specialize in the detection of chemical weapons and decontamination were in Jordan training with forces there.

An American task force has been deployed to Jordan and has been helping the Jordanians deal with the escalating humanitarian crisis, including an exodus of more than 200,000 refugees from Syria to Jordan. The force is also planning how to respond, if necessary, to a chemical weapons threat.

Although Mrs. Clinton’s reference to a “red line” echoed a warning issued by President Obama in August, it was the most explicit warning from a ranking American official since reports of renewed chemical weapons activity began to surface in recent days.

Mrs. Clinton stopped in Prague on her way to Brussels for a meeting of NATO foreign ministers. A major topic of the NATO meeting is a Turkish request that the alliance deploy Patriot antimissile batteries in Turkey. The Turkish government is concerned about Syria’s ballistic missiles, which could carry chemical weapons, and it wants NATO to guard as many as 10 sites inside Turkey.

What exactly is happening at Syria’s chemical sites is unclear. One American official said Sunday that “the activity we are seeing suggests some potential chemical weapon preparation,” which goes beyond the mere movement of stockpiles among Syria’s several dozen known sites. But the official declined to offer more specifics.

Over the weekend, the activity in Syria prompted a series of urgent consultations among the Western nations, which have long been developing contingency plans to neutralize the chemical weapons, a task that the Pentagon estimates would require more than 75,000 troops. But there were no signs that any American action was imminent.

So far, Mr. Obama has been very cautious about intervening in Syria, declining to arm the opposition groups directly.

Anne Barnard contributed reporting from Beirut, Lebanon.

Syrian Truth l Press TV l Army secures road to Damascus airport

Dec 3,2012

Syrian Army soldiers have secured the road leading to Damascus International Airport, days after heavy clashes between militants and government forces in the area led to the closure of the road, Press TV reports.

The traffic flow was normal on Sunday with the presence of some Army checkpoints along the highway to maintain security, Mohammad Ali, Press TV correspondent in Damascus, said after visiting the road and the airport.

The surrounding areas of the highway such as Beit Sahem and Aqraba at times witness clashes. Syrian troops, however, said they would quickly confront the militants to keep the highway safe.

A Syrian Army officer told Press TV that the government troops have been chasing armed men and killed many terrorists but some of them escaped.

Gunshots were heard and black smoke was seen rising from the areas close to the highway.

A driver told Press TV that now the road is safe for travel.

WMD- Weapons of Mass Destruction. Chemica Weapons?

Soon we will see . Count them, it will be days if not hours before we see a repeat of Desert Storm part 3, except this time it will be in the deserts of Der Zor.

History repeats. LIES after LIES like the LIES about Iraqi WMDs. Guess who the authors of those LIES are.

If we were naïve enough to believe that amassing all that super hardware (Patriot) is against Syria, see what Confucius say….
