  • 3 weeks later...

The first week of fasting started this monday of the whole period of 40 days and one week.

And may God forgive all our sins and give as faith during this special for armenians holly year.

And it is true that said in the Bible: You can be rich on earth but sinner in God's eye. And you can bee poor on earth but recieve the forgoveness from God and be in heaven. And afterall, will be higher there, and the heaven and eternety cannot be compared to wealth during your life.

GOD Bless you all

Its actually 48 days and the Sundays do count. Actually you have Easter dinner on the 48-th day. The 49-th day is Easter Sunday. Its roughly 7 weeks

I have tried to find out from different churches what the "rules" are in regards to lent (or fasting). I received mixed information. So I just do it the way I think it should be. No meat or dairy (or ANYTHING that is made with animal products). Even things like honey. You get the picture

Make sure to include Jell-O and movies in that list, since both are made from gelatin which is derived from cows (the hooves, I believe!).

Funny

Jell-O is one of the few sweet things I don't like But I can't deprive myself of movies Oh, I saw Hannibal this weekend. Have you seen it? It was the first time a movie had such an impact on my physical and mental state. I was hypervenelating

No meat, no fish... but diary??? never heard of that...
But the most important is not the food restrictions or fasting but not to commit a crime, or sin... pray... simply to be a "good" person ...

Second week started... still no meat, no fish... 5 weeks to go...

Artur
P.S. Buy the way, with respect to vegiterians... Vegiterian food is crap! Today i had Cheese and Tomato Pizza with Vegie burger... Ehk... Can you picture that?

Arthur, I thought people were not to eat anything that came from animals and that included cheese and butter and honey as well.

By the way, what’s this crap about "Vegetarian food is crap" . I have been a vegetarian for 8+ years and I feel better than ever. You should give it a try for a while. The only thing I miss once in a while is basturma.

I've checked and that is right that you cannot eat anything that comes from animals, and also fish. Moreover, a person who prepaires the food should not touch meat at all, i.e. the same person cannot cook meat food and vegeterian food at the same time.

Artur jan what about being a blasphemus? Does it fall within the fasting category?

Do we have to be selective in not commiting a crime or a sin? Only against the Christians or others as well?

There is/was a very wise inscription around the fountain outside the Hagia Sophia in Constantinopole, which read as follows in Greek " Nipsonanomimatamimonanopsin" , which is read also the same from the end to the beginning (by one letter difference).

The meaning " Wash your sins, not only your face".

I hope you get what I mean!

Then why are you eating cheese. Cheese is made of milk. And I think cows are the main producers of milk (so far). Do you not consider cows animals?

I wish I could do that I must admit, I feel great when I do "pak" or "pas" I have more energy and feel healthier (especially when I also make time for the GYM). But there are two things I miss the most during "pas" (and I have been doing this for 4 or 5 years now). I so much crave cheese and chocolate. Not together of course Sometimes I come so close to ruining everything - then I pick up a piece of "loxum" to satisfy my sweet tooth But there isn't much one can do to satisfy the craving for cheese (ooooohhhhhh I would love to have some Bulgarian cheese right now !!!) He he he ...

But there is a much more important reason I do this each year ... the spiritual factor. It's my own way of repenting.

I guess I should have said in my original post that while I am a vegetarian and I do not eat any meat, I do eat chocolate, ice cream, cakes with egg or milk in them and honey and things like that. I think I would kill my self if someone took away my Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia or Chunky Monkey.

Yeah I know ... most vegetarians are like you The way you feel about ice-cream the same way I feel about fancy pastries. I buy a big box right before "paq" and a bigger box right after I especially love the ones with "shira" or "sugar-water." Panos Pastry is the place to go for those
