THOTH
Sasun - Again you are incorrect. I have been aware of Sri Chimnoy since the 1970s. He has been guru to Santanna and other rock stars... You are corrct however - his words do absolutly nothing at all to me. they may be nice words - and I might appreciate them more - if they were related to something real... You have expressed intolerence of Atheists. I understand implicity the concepts of Christ conciesness. Not only have I once attempted to become "Born Again" - and failed - LOL - but I have had deep discussions of all the various aspects of such with some very serious Christian types - some of whom have been preaching (most likely) since before you were born. I also have looked into a great many religious beliefs, Occult, Witchcraft and New Age practices. (All bunk basically...but each with some good I must admit - the best - to me - being Wiccan and Pagan beliefs - most natural and human friendly...) Yes, and the Dao - remember I have never claimed "to know" - it is you and those professing faith - they you know - even if proof or evidence says otherwise.... I understand you distinction of heart versus mind. I am much more a person of the heart then the mind regardless of what you may think. While much of the Biblical messages etc coincide with what I may feel to be "good" etc - equally - or greater - I feel the deception and I understand that this is all based on man - and man with very specific agenda - much of which goes against the greain of who I am and what I believe. And these mono-theistic religions are religions of exclusion not inclusion - regardless of what they claim to be. Overall there effect is a negative one. Look at that Jesus is Lord site (for Christsake!)... I mean just look at some of this stuff - http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/dayoflrd.htm and http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/bigtalk.htm This IS Christianity. I can't at all understand why one would place belief in something illogical or paradoxal as you say. I mean if you need it fine - but don't say that I am deficient If I say I do not...Its funny that you say - I used to think like you...etc...well - I imagine I'm a good deal older then you - and I have thought on these matters quite a bit. I have been involved in Christian organizations and teachings and discuss these issues all the time. And I don't need to create an anthropomorphic (or otherwise) deity for love, kindness and/or compassion thank you...

You are corrct however - his words do absolutly nothing at all to me. they may be nice words - and I might appreciate them more - if they were related to something real... FYI, Sri Chinmoy does not charge for his teachings although he has devoted all his life to God and teaching and inspiring about God. You maybe aware of him but to call him a big business is not true at all. He doesn't live for anything material at all. To say that he is talking about something unreal implies that you know the reality, which I find not true. When I first read similar writings I didn't take them seriously, they sounded like something written for children. But that only seems so superficially. quote:While much of the Biblical messages etc coincide with what I may feel to be "good" etc - equally - or greater - I feel the deception and I understand that this is all based on man - and man with very specific agenda - much of which goes against the greain of who I am and what I believe. You see deception in man because of your untrusting and doubting mind. If you do not trust man then how can you love man? Again, this should not be taken personally, I am talking about the concept. Trusting is more difficult than not trusting, therefore it has more value. quote: Yes, and the Dao - remember I have never claimed "to know" - it is you and those professing faith - they you know - even if proof or evidence says otherwise.... I don't know Tao/Dao in its entirety and depth but I know something of it. What proof or evidence could you have that says otherwise? And again, Tao (at least the copy I know) has an explicit reference to God (only once). What are you going to do about it? quote:You have expressed intolerence of Atheists. That's not true. I have exressed something against atheism but not intolerance to individual atheists. Saying what I think doesn't mean intolerance. The same way I could say that you hate believers because you have exressed against God. I say again, atheism cannot be good because of its very nature. Atheism but not particular individual atheists. Atheism has no goal, it is a goal in itself. The goal is destruction of belief. This is the concept of atheism. It is as unreasonable as belief, but belief builds and is not against anything. The goal of belief is not belief but something else. The goal of atheism is itslelf, atheism. Atheism is selfish, belief is selfless. The essence of atheism is non-existence, the essence of belief is existence. quote:I can't at all understand why one would place belief in something illogical or paradoxal as you say. Speaking of myself, I appreciate logic as much as it is. But to me logic is not all, it cannot explain or understand all that there is. Therefore, ignoring logic opens up a whole new world of opportunities and much more. That's where belief comes in. It is like opening the limits of the physical world. If you don't believe in such you will never go beyond the limit. To some degree your assertion than following the mainstream of belief puts one in a box is correct. But it all depends on what you understand by belief. For me, belief is the only way of going outside the box. There are many different beliefs, so one can choose between them. Some beliefs do not recognize diety, I see nothing wrong with it. It is a matter of personal choice and a matter of what one feels he/she is tuned for. I didn't realize that you are considerably older than me. But that doesn't mean you definitely know more than I do. I am sure you have read more. I don't know what you know, I don't even know what I know. So I can't tell. What I say is based on what you have said here. I am under the impression that in the past I shared some of the thoughts that you exrpessed here. For example, consider this: in the past, I used to think that God pretends to be good but is indeed bad, because he controls everything and everyone thereby putting all men in slavery. So I kind of rebelled and declared that I don't fear God and don't fear of going to hell, and I will not follow anything that God says. I preferred to go to hell than heaven, because even though I would burn in hell I would not loose my freedom. Moreover, I considered heaven a boring place - one more reason not to want to go to heaven. Now, I consider this line of thinking superficial and a total nonsense which is easy to conclude reading the Bible. BTW, I think that the Bible is quite outdated (not the Christ consciousness). As to the links that you provided, there is some truth in content, but they are trying to impose their belief by fear of hell, which is totally wrong, ineffective and against the message of Christ. You say this is Christianity, to me this is not. But I don't care for the names, lets say it is Christianity, then I am not a Christian as such. I believe in Christ and everything that he has said and done. What am I? I don't know, maybe and independent believer, it doesn't really matter. I believe in soul reincarnation and other things that are not in the Bible. I guess hardcore Christians such as people from those webpages would tell me that I am going to go to hell if I don't "turn". I don't care, I still believe in Christ. I believe our weaknesses and "sins" are are the work of our human will and ignorance if you will, which is separate from God. What we have in common with God is more signifcant than what is separate. In this sense its not God who controls us but we who control God in our actions driven by human will. Does this make sense?
THOTH
A dude who goes by Cygnus has a very entertaining site on debunking the Bible. http://www.cygnus-study.com/ Here is an excerpt where he discuses agnostiscim and his (non) belief: "I put Christianity to the ultimate test. I demand absolute verifiable proof for me to accept it. Since it is not possible to get from Christianity, Christianity is rejected. Why should my belief in Deism/Pantheism be any different? Recently I visited another forum and came to a breakthrough into Agnosticism. I wrote: Let's face it - admitting that we do not know something is not easy. Admitting that we do not know something like this can send many people over the edge. They may have a hard time dealing with this newfound lack of knowledge, but they will finally be reaching a point of honesty that those who claim to know the truth can not know. I am an Agnostic. For those who do not know what an Agnostic is, here is a definition: Agnosticism Ag*nos"ti*cism, n. That doctrine which, professing ignorance, neither asserts nor denies. Specifically: (Theol.) The doctrine that the existence of a personal Deity, an unseen world, etc., can be neither proved nor disproved, because of the necessary limits of the human mind (as sometimes charged upon Hamilton and Mansel), or because of the insufficiency of the evidence furnished by physical and physical data, to warrant a positive conclusion (as taught by the school of Herbert Spencer); -- opposed alike dogmatic skepticism and to dogmatic theism. It is not that I believe or disbelieve. It is simply that the jury is still out and might remain out until death. Cygnus - 4.29.99 UPDATED 2.22.00 It is nearly a year since I wrote this piece and many of it holds true to this day. I do still classify myself as an Agnostic but I also classify myself as an Atheist, too. While this might not make sense at first, let me explain: Of all of the gods that I have read about and encountered its followers, there is not one that I believe exists. I believe that they are all contradictory to nature, science and logic on some level. Some gods, the Christian one, for example, are more contradictory than others. As this is my belief and because I do not have a system of theism, I consider myself an Atheist. I maintain my label of Agnostic as I have not been everywhere and do not know all that there is to know. While I believe that the possibility of a creator-god is highly unlikely, I do not have all of the answers and recognize that the possibility exists - however slim - that there is one." THOTH
quote:Originally posted by axel: quote:What explanations? I do not recall having mentioned any. Well lets see what you have previously stated in this thread: Originally posted by axel:[QB]The question of the existence of God can be answered quite simply (THOTH - not an explanation?) Can Justice be achieved without righteous people? if Justice is not the ideal of a society, what is? do you think that Man can be righteous and work towards this ideal of Justice if he doesn't have faith in an ideal that transcends himself? If God doesn't exist, then Man IS God. If Man is God (ie his own ideal and thus his own end), then everything is allowed. The consequences of such belief can be seen in our tragic world. If you believe that we have to follow some ethical principles in our life (and not just adopt a legalistic attitude, for human laws or political systems (eg. democracy) do not guarantee that people do good) regardless of the existence of God, ask yourself why. (THOTH - a judgement) The materialistic and anthropocentric religion (for we have to agree that atheism, the religion of man divinised, which should better be thought of as theophobia, is a religion in itself) that has served as a foundation for modern societies is not superior to that of Christ, it is in fact its negation. The twentieth century has been the tragic illustration of the advent of evil and lie as the fundamental basis of our world. (THOTH - again you are blaming Atheism for the ills of the world....LOL - yeah right...) Those that scorn Him in fact work, not for the evolution, but for the regression of humanity towards bestiality. This is the hidden goal of atheism (THOTH - ooooowww - we Atheists are pretty nasty - whats next - a crusade?) Faith. Faith is the basis of Life and creation, spirit is the root of culture. When spirit runs dry, culture cristallizes into civilization (as the Greek culture into the Roman civilization) and disappears. Atheism/theophobia is the religion of death and destruction. (THOTH - no - your not claiming any monopoly on the truth are you now?) A pure atheist doesn' believe in Ethics, in Beauty, in any ideal whatsoever and that is why, pure atheism can be equated with theophobia. (THOTH - we are such villians by your word are we not?) atheist ideologies of the twentieth century (socialism, communism, nazism) are the one that killed the most (THOTH - First I contend that these were not strictly Atheistic ideologies...next I dispute your inference...) If there is nothing above man, then man is above all. Then everything is allowed (Clearly such belief is contrary to the ideal of Justice which is the goal of society). If you disagree with this reasoning, then you're not a real atheist (THOTH - well I disageree....so what am I then? You will define what I am?) people that have Faith are stronger than those who don't (THOTH - explain how this helped our people earlier in thei century? OK - I've had enough of this already...) quote:Originally posted by axel: Have I - or other Atheists been launching crusades, inquisitions, trials or heriticsHave we?
