Artsakh Forces Down Azerbaijani Drone

The air defense forces of the Artsakh Army downed an Azerbaijani drone carrying out a reconnaissance mission, the country’s defense ministry reported.

The Orbiter 2 unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down on Wednesday at around 10:15am, the ministry added.

The Orbiter 2 is manufactured by Aeronautics, an Israeli company, which within the context of a potential $20 million deal with Baku, became embroiled in controversy after Azerbaijani officials forced its specialist to conduct a “live demonstration” of its armed “kamikaze” drones on Artsakh targets in July, 2017. While two Aeronautics specialists refused the Azerbaijani order, company executives agreed to compel the attack.

This led to an investigation of Aeronautics by Israel’s government, which eventually suspended the company’s export license. However, in January, it lifted the ban on the sale of attack drones to Azerbaijan. Reports indicate that Aeronautics has opened offices in Baku last month.

On Sunday, Azerbaijani forces attempted to breach the Artsakh-Azerbaijan border–known as the line of contact–but Artsakh forces retaliated and prevented the attack. An Azerbaijani soldier was killed during the incident. His remains were returned to Azerbaijan through the efforts of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Artsakh official: Azerbaijan suffered two losses during attempted subversive attack

Another Azerbaijani serviceman was seriously wounded during a failed incursion on the Artsakh frontline positions on Sunday, September 22, Artsakh presidential advisor Tigran Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook.

In an official statement the Artsakh Defense Ministry said the Azerbaijani subversive group left behind one body in the no-man’s land after being repelled by the Artsakh frontline troops.

“The Defense Army suffered no losses,” the ministry noted, adding that some episodes of the attack were caught on the surveillance cameras.

Artsakh returned the body of the killed saboteur to Azerbaijan on 24 September.

Abrahamyan said the wounded Azerbaijani soldier somehow managed to throw themselves back into their trenches and apparently succumbed to his wounds later.

“Our servicemen who witnessed the incident also confirmed this,” he said.

The advisor cited Facebook user Alen Ghulyan, who found and shared a video from the funeral ceremony of the soldier killed on the same day and in the same direction. He also posted photos of the Azerbaijani saboteur, which obviously show that he was not a conscript.

The second saboteur was identified as Qürbət Qürbət oğlu Quliyev.

Armenian PM’s wife invites Azerbaijan’s first lady to Artsakh to listen to mugham

Armenian prime minister’s spouse Anna Hakobyan has invited Azerbaijani president’s wife Mehriban Aliyeva to Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to listen to mugham (a musical genre that weds orally transmitted music with classical written poetry).

“I want to invite Mehriban Aliyeva to Karabakh. She can be our guest. We know how to honor a guest: one of the rules of hospitality is to honor one with music, we can fulfill her dream and ensure that she listens to her beloved mugham in Karabakh,” she said, addressing the United Nations Security Council conference on Women, Peace and Security in Yerevan on Wednesday.

The PM’s wife added she is ready to pay a visit to Azerbaijan if Aliyeva accepts her invitation.

Her remarks came after the Azerbaijani first lady expressed a desire to listen to mugham in Karabakh on social media.

“However, if Mehriban Aliyeva means that their dream is to come to Karabakh and listen to mugham through war, I assure you that this dream will remain unfulfilled,” Hakobyan stressed. “Moreover, if they start a new war, there will appear new settlements where listening to mugham will become an unfulfilled dream for them.”

Armenia military thwarts Azerbaijani subversive incursion attempt

1007522.jpg 10:33, 6 March, 2020

YEREVAN, MARCH 6, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijani troops attempted at 05:30, March 6 a subversive incursion in the direction of an Armenian military base located in Armenia’s north-east.

“The Armenian side doesn’t have losses, one serviceman sustained light injuries as a result of the actions, the circumstances of the incident are being clarified,” the Armenian military said.

“An analysis of the actions shows that for the given subversive incursion, which was implemented by respectively trained personnel, the adversary has carried out serious preparatory work" , the Armenian Defense Ministry said.

Analyst: There is still risk of Turkey's sabotage in regard to Nagorno-Karabakh
23:04, 06.03.2020
default.jpg

In an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Turkologist Ruben Safrastyan said there is still a risk of Turkey’s sabotage with respect to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“Ankara might use Baku in the geopolitical game against Russia, and for this reason, Armenia has to be maximally alert and closely follow the situation on the border with Azerbaijan,” he stated.

On March 6 at around 5:30 a.m. Azerbaijani servicemen made an attempt of sabotage in the direction of one of the military posts on the northeastern border of Armenia. Thanks to the literate actions of Armenian soldiers, the adversary suffered casualties and pushed back to its starting point, leaving ammunition and a mine detector.

The Armenian side didn’t suffer casualties, and one serviceman was slightly wounded.

French political scientist’s prediction and Azerbaijan’s sabotage infiltration attempt

1007611.jpg 16:34, 6 March, 2020

YEREVAN, MARCH 6, ARMENPRESS. The article titled “Erdogan pushes Aliyev to attack Artsakh: French political scientist” published recently in the Russian Realist news agency seems to be coming true.

French political scientist Marcel Pierre said in the article that in line with the Turkish operations in Syria President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also trying to deteriorate the situation in South Caucasus, prompting Azerbaijan to re-launch the military operations in Artsakh, which in its turn will allow him to sit around a negotiation table both with Russia and the OSCE member states.

Today early in the morning the subversive incursion attempt launched by the Azerbaijani armed forces in the direction of an Armenian military position once again confirms the truth of thoughts voiced in the article that Baku is serving Ankara’s policy to destabilize the situation in South Caucasus.

Although the Azerbaijani attempt resulted in failure thanks to the literate operations of the Armenian forces, and the adversary was pushed back by suffering losses, the analysis show that that military “tour” of the adversary has been preceded by an active information outflow. For several days the Azerbaijani media outlets were reporting about the shelling of the Azerbaijani positions. In order to hide their aggressive actions today as well the Azerbaijani media continued spreading fake information according to which the Armenian side has violated the ceasefire regime.

One should not ignore the fact that recently Erdogan visited Azerbaijan, and as some sources report, and the leaders of the two brotherly states reached an agreement on artificially escalating the situation in the region for the benefit of Turkey.

The aforementioned clearly proves that today’s sabotage operation was a planned move under specific political interests.

How Azerbaijani hackers stir panic among people in Armenian social media groups

Facebook user Alen Ghulyan has showed how Azerbaijani hacking groups under the country’s Defense Ministry and media resources covering the events of the Azerbaijani army spread fake news in Armenian groups of Facebook and other social media to stir panic among people.

“The military group Herbi Xeberler Ve Melumatlar, Reyncer13, a member of the hacking group Anti-Armenia Team actively cooperating with it, and armiya.az (ordu.az) website are actively involved in this ‘operation’,” he wrote.

“As you know, Azerbaijani hackers have recently hacked thousands of Armenian accounts to regularly spread disinformation in Armenian social media groups, in particular about the army's combat readiness.

Anush Danielyan is one of those hacked accounts. Experts create Armenian texts which are aimed at stirring panic and have nothing to do with the reality. Afterwards, they are posted on Armenian groups with a large number of users through these and other similar accounts,” the post read.

Naturally, it cases panic and the disinformation spreads rapidly by Armenian users, Alen Ghulyan says, adding it’s hard to convince people that the information was spread by the Azerbaijani side, since the content is in Armenian and the person who shared it does not seem to be a fake user.

“After the first stage of the operation, the Azerbaijani media (such as armiya.az) disseminates the information in Azerbaijani or Russian languages, citing the source of information (in this case Anush Danielyan). This is also intended for the domestic audience to show that the situation in the Armenian army is very bad and so on. Similarly, fake news is spread about "victims", "shootings as a result of interpersonal conflicts", "the confrontation between the Karabakh people and Armenians" and others,” he said.

The user also posted a screenshot of Facebook post by Anush Danielyan alleging 11 civilians and 27 soldiers have been taken to an Artsakh hospital with coronavirus symptoms.

Alen Ghulyan says the speared of the fake news about coronavirus is not accidental, since the coronavirus situation in Azerbaijan is actually more serious.

“They have hundreds of infected people which is not reported. In some areas on the border with Iran, the situation is catastrophic. Intercommunity roads in that area are closed, with subdivisions of internal troops deployed in those regions to ensure public order. Some reports suggest that servicemen of the State Border Service are also among the fatalities and the infected people,” Ghulyan wrote.

Armenia calls out Azerbaijan’s deliberate attempts to escalate situation on the border

The Armenian Foreign Ministry has called out Azerbaijan for the deliberate attempts to escalate the situation at the shared border with Armenia.

In a statement the ministry has stressed the need for establishment of international risk reduction mechanisms is an important priority of the Nagorno Karabakh peace process.

The comments come in the wake of a ceasefire violation by the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan in the Nakhijevan section of the state borders with Armenia that saw Armenian serviceman Zohrab Sianosyan shot dead by sniper fire.

“This is yet another attempt of Azerbaijan to intentionally escalate the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border: on March 6 Azerbaijani armed forces attempted an infiltration in Tavush region of Armenia,” the Foreign Ministry said.

“Regular attempts by Azerbaijan to escalate the situation on the state border with Armenia, to expand the geography of escalation and refrain from applying the existing mechanisms of de-escalation attest to the deliberate nature of Azerbaijan’s attempts to undermine regional security and peace,” the statement reads.

Such actions, the Ministry said “demonstrate that the establishment of international risk reduction mechanisms is an important priority of the Nagorno Karabakh peace process, and the implementation of agreements reached in that regard is a necessary condition for the advancement of the peace process.

Artsakh forces down Azerbaijani drone

The air defense units of the Artsakh Defense Army downed an Azerbaijani Orbiter unmanned aerial vehicle as it entered Artsakh’s airspace, the Defense Ministry informs.

The Artsakh Defense Ministry says the number of flights carried out by the enemy’s air forces in the areas adjacent to the line of contact between the Azerbaijani and Karabakh armed forces, which are of both educational and reconnaissance nature, has increased.

“In addition to various types of fighter jets and helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles are involved in these operations, which, unlike the first ones, often try to penetrate into the airspace of the Artsakh Republic for reconnaissance purposes,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The Artsakh Defense Ministry urges the Azerbaijani side to refrain from provocative steps and assures that any offensive action will receive a worthy response.

Artsakh army’s retaliation has been ‘painful’ for official Baku – Defense Ministry

The Artsakh Republic Defense Ministry reacted to the statements of Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, revealing the reasons behind them.

A statement issued by the ministry's press service reads:

"In recent weeks, the response of the Artsakh army to the ceasefire violations initiated by the adversary along different parts of the line of contact between the Artsakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces seems to have been rather painful for the military-political leadership of official Baku.

Most likely, this is the reason why for several days already, the leadership of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, in particular, the defense minister, has been regularly visiting different sections of the frontline, trying to somehow encourage their demoralized soldiers.

The Azerbaijani defense minister paid a similar visit to the northeastern and eastern parts of the contact line on May 4, which was fully monitored by the relevant services of the Defense Army.

Adhering to the requirements stemming from the appeal of the UN secretary general to observe the ceasefire amid the pandemic, the Artsakh Armed Forces command staff informs that any movement of the adversary on the frontline, including at the top level, is under the control of the relevant Defense Army services, while the frontline troops are ready to take necessary measures based on the situation.”

Armenian MoD warns Azerbaijan

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Defense Ministry of Armenia has warned Azerbaijan today that any attempt to bring military equipment and personnel close to the borders of Armenia or Artsakh during the drills on May 18-22 "will be considered a provocation and met with corresponding actions”.

The Defense Ministry has issued a statement, which reads:

“According to the announcement by the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan, the country is going to conduct large-scale operative and strategic exercise on May 18-22.

It should be noted that the exercise focuses on the training for an offensive, which will include mass strikes with missile and artillery, aviation, and high-accuracy weapons.

The Defense Ministry of Armenia brings to the notice of OSCE, OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, Personal Representative of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and the international community the fact that following its custom, Azerbaijan implements large-scale military drills without prior notification, which is another gross violation of the 2011 Vienna document that outlines the means for strengthening trust and security.

The Defense Ministry of Armenia condemns the implementation of this exercise which aggravates the security situation in the region on the background of the need for coordinated efforts against COVID-19 pandemic and in defiance of the call for ceasefires globally by the UN Secretary General.

We urge Azerbaijan to exercise restraint and respect its international commitments. At the same time, we inform Azerbaijan that any attempt to bring military equipment and personnel close to the borders of Armenia or Artsakh during the drills will be considered a provocation and met with corresponding actions.”

Armenian side to initiate preventive measures immediately in case Azerbaijani drills contain any threat: deputy DM

Such scale of military drills without initial planning was impossible to conduct, deputy minister of defense Gabriel Balayan told the reporters today, referring to the drills in Azerbaijan.

“There are international commitments, it is when Azerbaijani Republic as OSCE Minsk Group member and a country that has joined corresponding agreements has commitments which it should implement. But we are already used to such working style of the adversary. These drills have not raised any tension on either borders with Armenia or Republic of Artsakh,” the official said.

Balayan stressed that the Armenian side will undertake preventive measures without any hesitation if they feel that Azerbaijani actions may contain threat for Armenia or Artsakh.

“I think the international community is well aware about it as we have stated about it beforehand. I repeat there is no need to worry, we are familiarized with this working style for already several years and we are ready for it, no changes in the implementation of our military commitments have occurred. Indeed, we have raised our soberness but have not undertaken any emergency measures as such because we are expecting everything from the adversary,” the deputy minister said.

Azerbaijani Special Forces Suffer Losses after Attack Attempt

Azerbaijani special forces suffered losses on Friday when their attempt to attack a military base in Artsakh was thwarted by Artsakh soldiers, the Artsakh Defense Ministry reported.

A group of activists tried to hold an action demanding war in Karabakh in front of the Milli Majlis, Turan reported.

The protesters told Turan that they accuse the parliament that the deputies do not protect the interests of the country.

According to one of the participants, Armenians declare Shushi the capital, and 99 deputies of their parliament agree to 'build a bridge from Iran to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan', that is why they are protesting.

It should be noted that no one has yet proclaimed Shushi - the oldest Armenian cultural center - the capital.

The police arrived at the scene and detained protesters. A member of the Musavat party, Ilgar Mahmud, was taken away in a police car. Another 11 protesters were put on a bus and taken to a police station. Others were dispersed.

‘Never try to speak to us in the language of force’: Artsakh President to Azerbaijan’s Aliyev

1016766.jpg 12:30, 29 May, 2020

YEREVAN, MAY 29, ARMENPRESS. The statement made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on May 28 was not a statement worthy of a politician, President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan said today live on Facebook.

“He [ilham Aliyev] announced that the force factor is becoming a priority in the world. In other words, did you choose the path to solve the issue through force, Mr. Aliyev? We are ready. I want to assure that the results are clear to us: what you had in 1994, you will also have it today. Never try to speak to us in the language of force!” Harutyunyan said.

He said Artsakh is ready to the logical solution of the issue through peaceful means and negotiations.

“The statements you have made that it is only the stage-by-stage version, I will say the following: of course, it can be solved through stages, but only in one option: firstly – the recognition of the right to self-determination, secondly – acceptance of our security guarantees after which only negotiations. There will be no other option”, the President of Artsakh said.

YEREVAN. – The Ministry of Defense (MOD) of the Republic of Armenia does not comment on the video that appeared on the internet, and in which, according to reports, the Armenian Armed Forces fired shots and hit a vehicle of the Azerbaijani army in the direction of Nakhichevan.

It should be reminded that on May 27, a vehicle of the Armenian Armed Forces had caught fire as a result of the adversary's shooting. The Armenian side, however, did not suffer any casualties.
