Armenian demonstrators move through Toronto in car convoy to protest war News 12:08 PM by Mike Adler

Young Armenian-Canadians will drive through major Toronto streets on Sunday, Nov. 1, in a demonstration meant to draw attention to the war over Nagorno-Karabakh.

“We all know someone who has died or someone who has been injured,” said Karnie Iskedjian, a participant in what’s expected to be a 500-car convoy.

The “drive-a-thon” is scheduled to leave the Armenian Community Centre of Toronto, near Sheppard Avenue East and Victoria Park Avenue, at 1 p.m.

Organizers say earlier car rallies on Oct. 3 and Oct. 18 were not as large and their routes weren’t as long.

The demonstrators won’t be trying to block traffic, they say.

Though born in Canada, Iskedjian said it’s heartbreaking to wake up to social media reports about Armenian casualties in Azerbaijan and Armenia’s conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed region inside Azerbaijan controlled by Armenians, who call it the Republic of Artsakh.

The North York woman said Armenians are “indigenous to the land” in Artsakh, which Iskedjian wants Canada to recognize as a nation.

Turkey supports Azerbaijan in the fighting over Nagorno-Karabakh, where Armenian control continued after a war ended in 1994.

Iskedjian acknowledged other Canadians don’t know much about the conflict, recalling many approached demonstrator’s cars during the Oct. 3 rally, “and asked what was going on.” She said the current fighting “is just the continuation of the genocide” perpetrated against Armenians by Turkey a century ago.

The Nov. 1 demonstration is organized by the United Armenian Council of Ontario, a coalition of Armenian organizations.

“I don’t think you have to be Armenian to care,” said Marianne Davitjan, a spokesperson.

“Everybody in our community is impacted by the war that’s going on.”

Iran won’t tolerate terrorists in Nagorno-Karabakh, Zarif warns

November 1, 2020 - 19:53

TEHRAN – In a clear warning on Sunday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Iran is all but sure about the presence of foreign terrorists in the war-torn region of Nagorno-Karabakh, warning that Iran won’t tolerate their presence.

“As for the terrorist forces, we are almost certain that they were present in the midst of the conflict, and we emphasized that this is not in anyone's interest,” the chief Iranian diplomat said, in what appeared to be the second official warning from Iran that it may take action against terrorists in the war zone if they pose a threat to the security of the country.

“In recent and even earlier negotiations, we have informed the authorities of Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as Russia and Turkey, that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not tolerate such a thing,” said the foreign minister, adding that these terrorists are not present at Iran’s borders now, but the probability that they will be present at a distance from Iran’s borders is still high, and Tehran has seriously expressed this concern to both sides.

There have been several reports in news media outlets in Iran suggesting that Takfiri groups may have been deployed in the south Caucasus region to take part in the clashes between Azerbaijan and the local ethnic Armenians in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Zarif has already expressed concern over the presence of Takfiri terrorists in the region while elaborating on a peace initiative that Iran has presented to all regional countries involved in the war to help end the conflict.

“In the active diplomacy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is based on respect for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the peaceful settlement of the conflict and the inviolability of international borders, there is a concern about the presence of Takfiri terrorists in the region and possibly other terrorists. We made it clear that it is unbearable for Iran,” the foreign minister pointed out.

KITCHENER -- Armenian-Canadians who demonstrated in Waterloo Public Square are calling for an end to the ongoing warfare in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Armenian community of Cambridge gathered for the silent protest on Sunday at 1 p.m. in hopes of bringing awareness to the issues happening in the region inside Azerbaijan, which his run by ethnic Armenians.

Over the past few weeks, escalating violence between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces have led to civilian casualties on both sides.

A genocide emergency alert has also been issued for the Armenian population living in the area.

“We want peace, that’s all we want,” said Levon Sarmazian of the Armenian National Committee of Southwestern Ontario. “There’s a very large Armenian community here in Waterloo Region, we’re tired of this going four weeks now without any sort of results.

“We want the fighting to stop. We want our people to stop dying.”

Bill Belichick showed his support for Armenians fighting for freedom

"I have learned that throughout Armenian history, regardless of any adversity or tragedy, the Armenian people have continued to thrive and persevere."

By

Trevor Hass, Sports Producer

November 1, 2020 | 2:04 PM

Bill Belichick made it clear he stands with Armenians in the Nagorno-Karabakh war.

His longtime girlfriend, Linda Holliday, shared a video Sunday with a variety of clips in which Belichick expresses his opinions on the matter.

The message, originally posted by Patriots director of football/head coach administration Berj Najarian, displays Belichick speaking in a quick montage. Belichick – who proudly displayed a small Armenian flag pin at the White House in April 2015 – introduces himself and makes his stance clear right away.

“To Armenians around the world, I just want to give a quick message and let you know that I stand with you during these difficult times,” Belichick said. “I have learned that throughout Armenian history, regardless of any adversity or tragedy, the Armenian people have continued to thrive and persevere.”

Then a graphic appeared on the bottom of the post: “For the past month, Armenian civilians in the Republic of Artsakh have been attacked brutally and relentlessly by missile and drone strikes by Azerbaijan.”

“I hope and pray for peace, justice, and the safety of the brave soldiers that are fighting for their nation’s recognition and freedom,” Belichick said as the website marchtojustice.org flashed across the screen.

Belichick asked those watching to aid his small effort to create justice and equality throughout the world.

“Please help the Republic of Artsakh gain recognition and prevent another Armenian genocide,” Belichick said, imploring people to go to armeniafund.org to do their part.

Resolution on Artsakh's right to self-determination to be introduced to U.S. Ohio legislature

1033557.jpg 23:02, 1 November, 2020

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. U.S. Ohio State Representative Jay Todd Smith is set to introduce a strongly-worded resolution in the Ohio Legislature condemning Turkey and Azerbaijan's brutal month-long attack on the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh and simultaneously recognizing the Republic of Artsakh’s inalienable right to self-determination, ARMENPRESS was informed from the Armenian National Committee of America Eastern Region (ANCA-ER).

The Ohio Legislature’s vote on this resolution could take place as early as next week. The measure also underscores the U.S. Administration’s need to work with the co-chairs of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group and the governments of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Republic of Artsakh to achieve a lasting and peaceful resolution to the conflict.

“As an Armenian American living and working in Ohio, it was an honor to work alongside Ohio State Representative Jay Todd Smith on this legislation. It’s truly humbling to know that our community has Ohio State Representatives who not only have our best interests at heart here in the district and in Ohio, but they also understand the value that freedom and democracy play around the world,” said David Krikorian, ANC of Ohio activist.

Upon passage, the Ohio legislature will join nine U.S. states and countless cities and counties nationwide in recognizing the Republic of Artsakh’s right to self-determination and independence.

Michigan State Representative Mari Manoogian led passage of similar legislation H.Res.319 on October 14 in the Michigan State House which also condemned the Turkish and Azerbaijan's attacks on Artsakh and Armenia. The New Jersey State Senate is also set to vote on recognizing the Republic of Artsakh thanks to the efforts of New Jersey State Senator Joseph Lagana.

Turkey transports terrorists to Azerbaijan for fighting against NK via civilian airports, planes

1033504.jpg 14:57, 1 November, 2020

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. Turkey is transporting terrorist groups from Syria to Azerbaijan for fighting against Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) through civilian airports and planes, Head of the Forensic Science Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia Rafael Vardanyan told Armenpress, presenting details from the questioning of Mihirab Muhammad Al Shayir, a Syrian mercenary terrorist sent to Azerbaijan for fighting against Artsakh.

Vardanyan said Mihirab Muhammad Al Shayir, who has been paid for participating in the hostilities by the Azerbaijani side, as well as the group of mercenaries sent with him have crossed Syria’s and Turkey’s borders without any document. “Their entry has not been obstructed by the Turkish armed forces, border troops or police. Moreover, the Turkish armed forces and police have assisted their entry from Syria to Turkey”, he said.

While crossing the border these mercenaries didn’t have any document. “They have been transported to Turkey’s civilian airport, then to another civilian airport via a civilian plane holding the Turkish flag and then have been transported to Azerbaijan again via a civilian plane holding the Azerbaijani flag. Both the airports and the planes have been civilian. Therefore, their transportation is being carried out through civilian airports and planes”, he said.

These mercenaries have been provided with civilian sports uniforms in advance, didn’t have any identification documents, a mobile phone or any other item. The whole process has been carried out by the sponsorship and support of Turkey’s military-political leadership, armed forces and police. “The financing and arming of these terrorist groups are implemented by the Turkish military-political leadership. Turkey is fully supporting and sponsoring this war which has been unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh”, Vardanyan said.

The Turkish military leads the entire artillery, UAVs and military operations. The whole process is managed by Turkish top military officials and other servicemen, he added.

Earlier today Armenia’s Investigative Committee published a part from the questioning of Mihirab Muhammad Al Shayir, the Syrian militant who was recruited as a mercenary and sent to Azerbaijan to fight against Artsakh.

Human Rights Defender to send Armenophobic statements in social media to intl. organizations

1033548.jpg 21:45, 1 November, 2020

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. The Staff of the office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia has documented the manifestations of hatred against Armenians in Azerbaijani social media and will present it to international organizations, ARMENPRESS reports Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan wrote on his Facebook page.

‘’Feasts, surveys, polls encouraging killings and cruel treatment of Armenians are organized in Azerbaijani social media, then happiness and pride spread for committed atrocities; other forms of hatred towards Armenians is largely encouraged.

Armenia’s Human Rights Defender’s Office obtained evidence confirming all the mentioned facts.

For example, a photo of a beheaded body is posted in this Azerbaijani social network channel claiming that this is an Armenian soldier and a poll is organized with exceptional cynicism and intention of incitement to hatred. This is clearly confirmed by the attachments to this statement (the original poll and its translation).

The Human Rights Defender's Office of Armenia has duly documented all these publications and will send them to relevant international bodies'', he wrote.

Azerbaijan’s land forces seriously damaged, mercenaries last hope of Azerbaijan

1033553.jpg 22:27, 1 November, 2020

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. The potential of Azerbaijan’s land forces has been seriously damaged and now the mercenaries are Azerbaijan’s main hope, ARMENPRESS reports representative of MoD Armenia Artsrun Hovhannisyan said in a press conference.

‘’Today we showed the second mercenary-terrorist who confessed how he was recruited, paid and how he was used by Azerbaijan against us. In this regard I can say that there are still many surprises, irrespective of the attempts of Turkey and Azerbaijan to deny the presence and usage of mercenary-terrorists’’, Hovhannisyan said.

He added that the Armenian side possesses information about where, in which directions and how the mercenary-terrorists are used and what tasks they are trying to solve.

‘’It should be noted that the attempts to carry out some tasks using mercenaries show that the land forces of the armed forces of Azerbaijan are seriously damaged and the mercenaries are Azerbaijan’s main hope’’, Artsrun Hovhannisyan said.

Artsakh’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemns use of phosphorus munitions by Azerbaijan

1033561.jpg 23:34, 1 November, 2020

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. The Foreign Ministry of Artsakh issued a statement, condemning the use internationally banned methods and weapons in the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh. As ARMENPRESS was informed from the press service of the Foreign Mistry of Artsakh, the statement runs as follows,

‘’We strongly and resolutely condemn the continued employment by Azerbaijan of prohibited means and methods of warfare under international law in the course of armed aggression waged against the Republic of Artsakh on 27 September 2020. In particular, the Azerbaijani armed forces, in addition to cluster munitions, began to use phosphorus-containing incendiary ammunition in wooded areas close to the settlements of the Republic of Artsakh, where part of the civilians from nearby villages have been temporarily sheltering from the actions of Azerbaijani subversive groups.

Contrary to its claims that the Azerbaijani armed forces as if are targeting only military objectives, official Baku is actually resorting to terror tactics against the civilian population of Artsakh. First of all, in this context, it is necessary to consider the consistent refusal of the Azerbaijani side to observe the humanitarian truce, since the continuation of hostilities allows the Baku authorities to further terrorize the civilian population of Artsakh. It is for this purposes that the Azerbaijani side resorts to the use of prohibited weapons, deliberate attacks on the civilian population and civilian objects, including medical units, setting itself the main task of exterminating and forcibly deporting the entire population of Artsakh.

In such cases, as an effective measure to prevent mass violations of the collective and individual rights of an entire people and protect them from physical destruction, the international community has developed a practice of recognizing the rights of these peoples to remedial secession and to enter international relations as an independent state.

30 years ago, the people of Artsakh chose the path of independence as a means of protection against Azerbaijan's deliberate policy of exterminating the Armenian population. We are convinced, that under the circumstances of the ongoing attempts of the Baku authorities to complete their criminal plan, international recognition of the de facto independence of the Republic of Artsakh is an urgent and mature measure of the international community to fulfil its generally accepted obligations to prevent crimes against humanity''.

Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict: Interview from the Inside
Michael Sonne on 01/11/2020

Armen Kaprelian is a 26-year-old Armenian national who having completed a Master’s in Economics has returned to his native home Armenia. Armen is currently working as a Research assistant for the Ministry of the Economy for the Republic of Armenia. He is based in Yerevan, Armenia. He joined me via Skype for an interview to discuss the ongoing Armenia-Azerbaijan war, which continues to escalate regarding the Republic of Artsakh.

Armen, the Western Media has picked up this conflict in its radar and has subsequently started to publish articles regarding the conflict, as Azerbaijan has the support of NATO member Turkey. Some outlets, and even Google denotes that Artsakh is ‘Internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan’. Please elaborate on why this conflict has arisen, and is Armenia the aggressor in this conflict?

Thanks so much for having me Michael. You are correct, certain elements of Western Media have thankfully begun to gain interest in this conflict. About a month has passed since the ceasefire was broken in Nagorno-Karabakh (historical Armenian name: Artsakh) on September 27th, and as someone who is following these matters closely, there has been a recent uptick in articles.

The history of Karabakh is long, with evidence of ethnic Armenians settled in the region since before Christ. As for the recent portion of its history which contributes to the conflict, following the 1915 Genocide, wherein Ottoman Turks killed 1.5 million Armenians along with many other minorities, many regions of Western Armenia were lost and regions like Karabakh were left in peril. Armenia and the newly formed Azerbaijan were absorbed as members of the USSR, following which the Soviet government saw fit to give Karabakh to Azerbaijan as leverage for Azeri (and thereby also their close ally Turkey) loyalty.

Multiple clashes resulted (Sumgait & Baku pogroms, 1990’s Karabakh War), wherein native Armenians managed to retain hold on their homeland. After a tense ceasefire for 30 years, war broke out once more, with each side blaming the other. Strategically, it would not make sense for Armenia to have initiated this, considering the land was already maintained and populated by them. In addition, Armenia knows that their own military budget sits at 634 million USD, with Azerbaijan at roughly 2.3 billion USD, so the status quo serves defensiveness (2020 figures). Lastly, intercepted military radio recordings were recently released by the Armenian National Security Service where we clearly hear Azeri military officials ordering the beginning of a large offensive.

Given the evidence of Turkish influence on the side of Azerbaijan, what does Turkey stand to gain over this disputed region?

Turkey and Azerbaijan have been longtime allies, with strong ethnic, diplomatic, military, and economic ties. Turkey, especially with Ergodan at the helm, has not hidden its desire for radical Islamic ‘Pan-Turkism’ from Istanbul to Baku to Ashgabat and beyond. Only Christian Orthodox Armenia stands in its way, with the Karabakh region critical for Armenian national security. Azerbaijan military strikes have now also extended into Armenia proper.

In addition, Turkey has recently been ramping up the aggressive anti-European and Russian rhetoric, while also sending military aid to Azerbaijan. This is especially worrying given the context of their NATO membership. It appears Ergodan sees strengthening Azeri territorial claims, as well as bold ultra-nationalist politics, as a path to evolve from European ally to regional superpower.

International Observers such as Genocide Watch have raised concerns about Azerbaijan’s actions, going so far as to rate Azerbaijan as Level 8: Persecution against Armenia. Why do you think the International Community is yet to heed this call, and how far is a comparison to the Armenian Genocide of 1915 applicable?

Genocide Watch recently upgraded the Azerbaijan invasion of Karabakh to stage 9 (extermination) and stage 10 (denial). Armenians worldwide have had to swallow a tough pill recently: the fact that despite suffering near extermination in 1915, the world is willing to watch the same happen again now with folded arms. I know many Armenians who have as a result become cynical to nations and NGOs touting “Humanitarianism” or “peace-keeping”. I strongly believe that if swift actions are not taken in the form of OSCE Minsk Group peace enforcement or hefty sanctions against Azerbaijan and Turkey, the result will be de-legitimization of Europe and the US as worthy of trust from auxiliary nations.

The explanation for inaction thus far is complex. The two most obvious factors are as follows: first, the UK via BP has strong economic ties to Azerbaijan oil production (a multi-billion dollar market); second, Turkey’s NATO status makes navigating the region’s military affairs complicated and high-stakes. Additionally, despite some movement in recent years toward European markets, Armenia remains largely reliant on Russia for economy and military. This gives the potential for European aid to Armenia to be viewed as aid to the Russian sphere of influence. It has also been plausibly argued that the reason for Russia’s own inaction is in part to punish the aforementioned Armenian shift Westward.

How do you view the situation at present? And what are news outlets missing from their coverage?

It has been inspiring for me to see videos of worldwide Armenian diaspora protesting for defense of Karabakh (Google search “#PeaceForArmenians”). ArmeniaFund alone has collected nearly 160 million USD, most of that from the diaspora. We have seen some promising steps with resolutions in the US House of Representatives to condemn and take actions against Azerbaijan’s aggression.

On the battlefield, there will naturally be land taken and given. I have stated prior Azerbaijan’s greater access to resources, with thousands of mercenaries pouring in from Turkey, Pakistan, Syria, and elsewhere. In addition, they have been sold state of the art military equipment like drones from Israel and Turkey for years, with the recent breaking news of white phosphorous use in Karabakh (an extremely dangerous chemical weapon).

Armenians will fight tooth and nail for their homeland, as they have been forced to do for millennia. I can tell you the spirit of the people here is very patriotic. Everyone is putting their personal needs aside and finding ways to contribute to the war effort. Donors, supply centers, military volunteers, and medical professionals are all eagerly at work. The nation is under martial law with government agencies working 24/7 on extended shifts. The phrase on everyone’s lips here is the motto “Hakhtelu Enk”, “We Will Win”. We Will Win because we must win. The alternative is the genocide of Armenians in Artsakh, and it would be a mistake to think the ambitions of Pan-Turkism stop there. President Aliyev of Azerbaijan himself stated “Armenia is not even a colony, it is not even worthy of being a servant”.

Are there any international actors who are supporting Armenia in this conflict, and if so, why the support?

The phrase “actions speak louder than words” has never been truer. I and many Armenians like me grow weary of hearing NGOs or politicians denounce “violence on both sides” and then fail to actionably follow up. A de-facto war of attrition is a potential time bomb for genocide for the people of Karabakh. Surely, I am grateful for the steps many cities and nations have taken in recognizing the situation in Karabakh. However, this battle will ultimately be won through concrete diplomatic and military action and aid. Presently, Armenia has no direct foreign military ally. Following the radical Islamic murders this past week in France, Macron has directed pressure against Turkey. Russia until recently was selling weapons to both Armenia and Azerbaijan. Armenians domestically and abroad will continue to pressure nations to put their money where their mouth is and cut aid to our opponents who target civilians and to enforce peace in Karabakh.

There was recent news of a ceasefire that was recently broken, who broke the ceasefire, and how can this war come to an end?

Thus far, there have been three ceasefires breached by Azerbaijan. Two have been negotiated by Russia and one by the US. The most recent breach of ceasefire (brokered by the US) was the most egregious. Several hours prior to the agreed upon ceasefire, the Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense tweeted that “Armenian armed forces again grossly violated the agreement”, only to then quickly delete the evidence, demonstrating they never intended to uphold their end (can still be verified from multiple sources with a Google search). At the time of speaking to you, talks with OSCE Minsk Group in Geneva to negotiate a ceasefire have just failed to reach an accord.

What could the International do better in light of this conflict?

I think Europe especially is beginning to accept the problems which have come with their decades long support of Turkey, a nation which is now making their discordant objectives more obvious. I hope that nations like France, Greece, and Germany move decisively to defend their own interests and those of a Western-friendly Armenia.

Western nations should also internalize that if they want the notion of Humanitarianism to be more than a slogan, they should act in accordance and against the Azeri-led aggression in Karabakh. Otherwise, the global status-quo regresses toward “winner-take-all” foreign policy. Take what you can, at whatever cost, and deal with the relatively mild consequences after. That is not what we want.

Is there anything further you wish to add?

Yes, just one point to add. Azerbaijan is forbidding most foreign journalists from entering their country and those who do enter are placed under strict supervision of the State. Unsurprising given their track record for human rights and Press Freedom Index of 168 (North Korea is the lowest at a nearby 180).

I encourage everyone listening to please go research this conflict yourself. The American Conservative has recently published a great article on How Azerbaijan Is Lobbying Washington To Sanitize Its War”, and there are independent journalists on the ground who have published some quality pieces like Vice News and WarGonzo. I see many of my understandably unfamiliar and skeptical friends in the US taking the stance of “both sides are messy” or “they need to give and take”. Much of the confusion and information overload around this conflict is precisely the objective of Azerbaijan’s millions of dollars of spending in influencing certain press outlets. Remember that Turkey, Azerbaijan, and arms supplier Israel have all failed to recognize the Armenian genocide, with the former two denying it outright and attempting to repeat it.

Հաղթելու ենք – Thank you,

France to ban Turkish ‘Grey Wolves’ after defacement of Armenian memorial

France is to ban a Turkish ultra-nationalist group known as the Grey Wolves, the interior minister said Monday, after a memorial to victims of the Armenian Genocide was defaced at the weekend.

The dissolution of the Grey Wolves will be put to the French cabinet on Wednesday, Gérald Darmanin told a parliamentary committee.

"To put it mildly, we are talking about a particularly aggressive group," he said.

His announcement came after a memorial centre outside Lyon to the mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, regarded as genocide by Armenia and France, was defaced with pro-Turkish slogans including "Grey Wolves" and "RTE" in reference to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The incident in the town of Décines-Charpieu came against a background of intense communal tensions in France between its Armenian minority and the Turkish community over the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Turkey has strongly backed ally Azerbaijan in the conflict over the region that is part of Azerbaijan but controlled by Armenian separatists since a 1990s war as the Soviet Union broke up.

Four people were wounded outside Lyon last Wednesday in clashes between suspected Turkish nationalists and Armenians protesting against Azerbaijan's military offensive.

The move by Darmanin risks further stoking tensions with Ankara.

In Turkey, the Grey Wolves are closely linked to the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) of Devlet Bahceli that had a political alliance with Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP).

The Grey Wolves are regarded as the militant wing of the MHP and caused havoc on the streets in Turkey during the 1970s and 1980s when its members frequently clashed with leftist activists.

There have been weeks of tensions between France and Turkey, which reached a peak last month when Erdogan questioned President Emmanuel Macron's mental health.

France responded by taking the highly unusual step of recalling its ambassador to Ankara for consultations.

Macron in an interview with Al-Jazeera on Saturday accused Turkey of adopting a "bellicose" stance towards its NATO allies, saying tensions could ease if Erdogan showed respect and did not tell lies.

Turkey's Defense Minister admits Azerbaijan violated ceasefire agreements, justifies aggression

1033672.jpg 21:56, 2 November, 2020

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Defense Minister of Turkey Hulusi Akar blamed the OSCE Minsk Group in ineffectiveness, noting that Azerbaijan attacked Artsakh as a result of the diplomatic impasse, Akar said during the opening ceremony of 2020-2021 academic year of the Turkish National Defense University and Military Institutes.

ARMENPRESS reports the Turkish defense minister referred to the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, saying that the delay of the conflict settlement by the OSCE Minsk Group forced Azerbaijan to say ‘’It’s enough” and launched ‘’counter-attack’’.

The Turkish Defense Minister pointed out only one pre-condition for the cessation of military operations. ‘’Everybody should understand that unless Armenia leaves the occupied territories, the military operations will not stop and there will be no ceasefire’’, Hulusi Akar said.

Turkey and Azerbaijan are the only countries to set pre-conditions for a ceasefire. The Armenian side has warned several times that the bodies of killed soldiers remaining in the battlefield for weeks can cause serious pandemic.

1033658.jpg 20:37, 2 November, 2020

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Turkey has drastically increased the export of military and military aerial equipment to Azerbaijan. During the last month Azerbaijan imported military and aerial production amounting to over $101 million, ARMENPRESS reports, citing the export data in the official website of the Turkish Exporters Assembly.

The export of the same production to Azerbaijan amounted to just 278 thousand USD in July 2020, 36 million USD in August and 77 million USD in September.

On September 29 the Armenian Defense Ministry announced about downing an Armenian SU-25 jet by a Turkish F-16 fighter jet. The Azerbaijani side also broadly relies on different Turkish UAVs, particularly Bayraktar TB-2 and KARGU 4 quadcopters.

The Armenian side has announced of destroying nearly 250 UAVs, including over a dozen of Bayraktar TB-2. As a result of international pressures, some countries have refused to sell assembly parts for Bayraktar.

Turkey continues sending terrorists to Azerbaijan to fight against Artsakh – Zinuj Media

Turkey continues sending terrorists to Azerbaijan to fight against Artsakh – Zinuj Media

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. ''Zinuj Media'' prepared a reportage about the mechanisms of recruiting mercenaries by Turkey and sending them to Azerbaijan to fight against the Republic of Artsakh.

ARMENPRESS reports the reportage says that yesterday the Defense Army of Artsakh announced about taking captive another Syrian mercenary. ''It can be confidently claimed that this is not the last case. Parallel with the localization of military operations the Azerbaijani armed forces has to attack in small groups, mainly with subversive groups. As a rule, those small groups are comprised of mercenaries, who have gained some experience in Syria and Libya. Naturally, over time, some of them will appear in the hands of Artsakh's army. There are already two of them, who have already given enough information about the recruitment of mercenaries, concentration in intermediate zones and the logistic schemes of sending them to Azerbaijan. For understanding the importance of the factor of mercenaries for the Turkish authorities, it's enough to know that Ankara finances 29 such organizations according to the open sources. Each of them has its particular mission during operations, but they are all under the control of the Turkish government and receive and carry out orders from Ankara. Pone of the key tasks set for those groups was carrying out active military operations in Kurdish-populated areas of Syria, as a result of which Kurds would either be exterminated or would have to abandon their homes. In fact, Turkey uses the mercenaries for getting rid of the Kurds. Given the fact that the mercenaries are recruited from extremely poor regions, it becomes easy for Turkey to recruit mercenaries for reasonable prices for Turkey’’, says the reportage.

The offer for fighting in the side of Azerbaijan against Artsakh is quite different from that of fighting in Syria, since the payment of the mercenaries in Syria sometimes is bellow 50 USD, while the mercenaries taken captive in Artsakh had been promised 2000 USD. According to the information of the two Syrian mercenaries, the offer to go to Azerbaijan is mainly advertised by the brokers of ''Sultan Murad'', ''Hamza Division'', ''Suleyman-Shah'' Brigade and some other groups. Those who accept the offer are taken to concentration areas. It's mentioned that in the case of the 1st Syrian captive in Artsakh the concentration area was Kilis city on the border between Syria and Turkey. Here they are explained their tasks, are divided into groups, mainly 250 members. A few days later the groups are sent to airports by land transport, where without any checks, under the direct control of Turkish police, the members of the group go onboard the plane and fly to Azerbaijan together with Turkish officers.

In Azerbaijan the groups are located in special regiments, all documents are taken, Azerbaijani uniforms are given, mainly uniforms of border guard units of Azerbaijan, arms and necessary vehicles are provided, commanders are appointed, mainly from the mercenaries, and are sent to military operations.

''It's already irrefutable that this process is carried out under the direct control of the Turkish-Azerbaijani top leadership. It is a well-thought-out mechanism that operates throughout the war like a unique production line. Particularly, following the internet platforms showing air transportations, it can be seen that there are regular flights from Libya to Turkey and from Turkey to Azerbaijan. Those flights take place till now, the last one took place just today. Therefore, this criminal process of recruitment of mercenaries for fighting against Artsakh, which also poses extreme threats for the entire region, has become a normal phenomenon. By this, official Baku and Ankara create troubles not only for Artsakh by their criminal activities, but for the entire region, making it a new hotbed for terrorist organizations'', says the reportage.

Blah, blah and more blah from the useless UN Human rights.

UN rights commissioner alarmed over "possible war crimes" in Karabakh
287332.jpg
November 2, 2020 - 22:17 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on Monday, November 2 expressed alarm at continuing indiscriminate attacks in populated areas in and around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, in contravention of international humanitarian law, and warned they may amount to war crimes.

Bachelet, in particular, cited the Azerbaijani soldiers' murdering of two Armenian prisoners of war.

“Since the conflict reignited in September with the terrible consequences we are now seeing, there have been repeated calls, including by myself, for the parties to take all feasible steps to avoid, or at the very least minimize, the loss of civilian life and damage to civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals – as well as to distinguish civilians from combatants, and civilian objects from military objectives,” Bachelet said.

“Instead, homes have been destroyed, streets reduced to rubble, and people forced to flee or seek safety in basements,” she added.

“International humanitarian law cannot be clearer. Attacks carried out in violation of the principle of distinction or the principle of proportionality may amount to war crimes, and the parties to the conflict are obliged to effectively, promptly, thoroughly and impartially investigate such violations and to prosecute those alleged to have committed them,” the High Commissioner stressed.

“Such attacks must stop and those responsible for carrying them out, or ordering them, must be held to account.”

“While many faked images have been circulating on social media, in-depth investigations by media organisations into videos that appeared to show Azerbaijani troops summarily executing two captured Armenians in military uniforms uncovered compelling and deeply disturbing information,” Bachelet said in a statement said, noting it could also be a war crime under the Geneva Conventions.

Azerbaijani social media users have been disseminating footage depicting the torture of Armenian prisoners of war, as well as the desecration of the bodies of dead Nagorno-Karabakh soldiers. Also, Azerbaijan has been deliberately targeting civilian settlements of Karabakh, also firing cluster munitions, which have resulted in over 45 deaths and 150 injuries.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey and Syrian and Libyan mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.
