Allow me to be silly. :P

Movses, vstah em qo harts@ nra hogebakan imasti masin e.

Piti tesnyl or "depression" bar@ zanazan imast ouni, kakhyal, yerkrabanakan(geological), fiziologakan kam tntesagitakan.

Geologically speaking it means a depression of land, as in the Grand Canyon, http://pinker.wjh.harvard.edu/photos/ameri...nd%20Canyon.jpg khoroch/խորոչ ,փոս et al.. In physics it means de-pressed, without pressure, like when your tire is de-pressed. In that case the Armenian would be "an-od-outiun", i.e without air. Economcally speaking, depression means when the value of the dram $$$ is "depressed".

Not to forget the depression on your face/chin, also know as "dimple/փոսիկ".

Not to forget the "depression/dent" in your fender when a Mercedes or a BMW hits your Rolls Royce.

:goof: :goof: :goof:

Dimple=1 : a slight natural indentation in the surface of some part of the human body

2 : a depression or indentation on a surface (as of a golf ball)

— dim·ply \-p(ə-)lē\ adjective

So how was the illness referred to previously? I would tend to think that in the past people did suffer from the actual disorder, yet they were not treated or taken seriously since the study of mental illnesses is a relatively new science. My uncle suffered from manic depression (and was most probably irrevocably damaged) due to absurd experimentative therapy and drugs. In the Soviet years, mentally ill patients were total lab rats in Armenia.

However, it is funny that people refer to short-lived blue periods as "depression".

Em, unfortunately it is still the case not only in Armenia…People are being prescribed medications based on their description of the symptoms…Psych med’s do not have method of action, so the doctor prescribes Prozac …“Come back in 5 weeks, let’s see how it has worked”…5 weeks later… “O, it didn’t help? You had shortness of breath?, ok, let’s try Zoloft, come back in 5 weeks let’s see”…this is very sad and dangerous, because no psych doctor requires a blood test or physical check up before prescribing medication which are full of side effects on cardiovascular system, joints and muscles, etc…

P.S. I don't like the fact that the short-lived period of sadness (or whatever it is) is called "blue" for some reason...it's my favorite color...:(
