I guess she is a bit too young and got engaged at a very young age, she was probably attracted by the position of her father in law. I think they are eventually going to break up. I think she is a good candidate, at least she speaks English, should anyone approach and ask anything. She is also pretty, has "the image" that Hayko mentioned and hopefully she will (should) perform well. Ani Posted November 16, 2007 Author Report Share Posted November 16, 2007 News © sirusho.am National final early 2008 Sirusho to Belgrade for Armenia Sirusho, a 20 year-old singer and songwriter, will represent Armenia at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade. This year, she announced the results of the Armenian televote in during the voting sequence in Helsinki. The news has been confirmed to esctoday.com by the national broadcaster this evening. Sirusho Harutyunyan is currently the fastest rising star in Armenia. She started performing publicly at the age of seven. Her first album, Sirusho was released in 1999 and her second one, Sheram followed in 2005. Sirusho was voted Future of Armenian pop music in the first ever Armenian national music awards. She has given concerts in many countries around the world including Canada, Belgium, Greece, Poland , Syria, Iran, Russia, Georgia, Jordan and the USA. Armenian composers have been invited to write songs for Sirusho, 5-7 of them will be selected by a special jury and the song which will represent the country in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest will be chosen during a national final during January or February. Diana Mnatsakanyan, the Armenian Head of Delegation, confirmed that a song selection will take place no later than 8th of March. "We are currently working on four songs," Mnatsakanyan said to Eurovision.tv. Shirusho is writing the lyrics for the four compositions herself. The young singer - she was born in 1987 - released her first album when she was 12. She has given concerts across Europe, in Canada, the United States and in the Middle-East. Currently, the 19-year old pop star is studying Diplomacy at the Yerevan State University. Mnatsakanyan herself seems to be looking forward to the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest and "can't wait" to select the song for Belgrade. But first, the Armenian public broadcaster has two other major events to deal with. On the 10th of February, the National Music Awards will take place. Armenia's Eurovision Song Contest participant will "certainly" take part in the event. On the 19th, the country will elect a new President, which the Armenian broadcaster covers intensively. Last week, the Azerbaijani news portal Today.Az reported that Sirusho would represent Armenia at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest with a mix of famous traditional Azerbaijani folk songs. The story caused confusion in Azerbaijan and a petition was organized to express concern regarding the matter. However, ARMTV states the song referred to was never meant to be entered for the competition, as it has been performed in 2005 and thus could not even take part in the Eurovision Song Contest. The rules of the contest state that songs should not be publically performed or released before the 1st of October, 2007. "No song has been selected yet and we are planning to hold our national final no later than the 8th of March," the Armenian Head of Delegation re-confirms. They will claim this even if the song sounds nothing like a traditional "Azerbaijani folk song." If Sirusho covered a Madonna song they would claim the song as Azeri.
