since when eurovision was supposed to be an cultural festival? it is and will be a pop show meant to attract the masses... and the organizer are doing a good job at that...

from what i see, most europeans don't take it more than that, just another pop show... it's the backward emmigrant nations, such as armenians, turks, the balkan nations that pay so much attention it and inject it with nationalistic pride...

if someone is so much talented and intelligent that they could come up with performances that are captivating the masses and yet are completely based on one's ethnic heritage, than they would not bother to perform at contests such as the eurovision...

For your information the idea of Eurovision at it's incepton WAS CREATED TO AQUAINT nations and their cultures through songs and dance... ;) In order to make EU viable....

Making nations tolerable to each other via culture... since these nations had been at odds with each other for millenia... was the basis and the AIM of Eurovision song contests.

Are you one of those backward immigrants that has reformed and has become... I don't know what? You tell us.

In the mid 60s this was the case...we watched a variety of performers doing their national representations with their costumes and lyrics of their nations...

Sandy Shaw, for whom I designed her finalists' dress ...sang bare feet and won the contest with "puppet on a string"song, a typically representative rendering of UK culture of the time. It was not rock n' roll nore beatles inspired...

Over the years the overwhelming influences of US economic pop culture more or less put an inprint on all the artists that wanted fast fame and fortune ahead of integrity...as you say, in order to captivate mass markets... not good music!

We seem to disagree as to what represents talent..., intelligence has nothing to with tonality and composition... anybody can make noise... but music needs inspired creativity!

It seems the globalization of culture is ANGLO/US IMPERIUM at all costs the mighty dollar is to be king.....

Բակուր, Bakur.
