WHAT DOES ALEPPO HAVE TO DO WITH THIS?

Have some respect for the city that welcomed with open arms your forefathers. Have some respect for the city that allowed Western Armenia to grow once again.

When is the last time I said something bad about Aleppo or DerZor?

In fact, I will be forever grateful to those noble people who took us in, protected, fed and clothed us.

Your heart and soul are in the right place but you are keeping bad company in the likes of Shahan, Read his posts again and see how toxic his pen is. The man is full of hate. If it is not towards eastern western vernacular, it is “stantsi” v “libanantsi” etc.

No wonder, as some may have implied that those from Hayastan don’t get involved in so called societies. How many other ways are there to insult them? Besides, there is this phenomenon of Compatriotic Societies. There was a time when people from Kesaria would form Kesaratsi Hayrenaktsatakamn Miutiun etc. just as every people from whatever town they were did. Nowadays those so called compatriotic societies may not be Kesaratsi, Vanetsi etc. but Beiruttsi, Bolsetsi, Hayastatsi etc. One also wonders if those Hayasrtantsif have finer divisions among themselves like Yerevantsi, Gumretsi etc.

Finally. Since this debate is about dictionaries. To this day I have not understood the need for this kind of dictionary and that kind. Is not Armenian one language? How many more lines of division do we need? Ask Shahan. He’ll find a few more lines to divide us. Why is there a need for several dictionaries. As Nairi suggested , why can’t one PROFESSIONALY WRITTEN dictionary satisfy both vernaculars and orthographies, like saying “people in Yerevan spell it this way and those from Bolis spell it this way“. Of course those so called “professionals” in Yerevan are not altogether innocent either. Read again those two articles written by self appointed “linguists” about “orthography” that had very little to do with the subject at hand but was full of insults, using such terms as “illiterate” etc.

If we are to talk about language and dictionaries, let us by all means but if we are to use the debate to insult people and create lines of division. As someone mentioned, this board is financed and maintained by people from Hayastan, just as the majority of participants are as well, yet they are so gracious in the face of how we insult them day after day. SHAME ON US!!!

Look. Not all Հայաստանցիs are rowdy. But I've lived in Glendale and I've been to a public high school in Glendale, and it only took a couple of days to notice the difference between Հայաստանցի young men (I'm not talking about women) and their counterparts from the diasporan communities. Again, not all are like this, but the majority are. It is what it is. NOT to recognize the difference would be odd, don't you think?

It's not "division" to have two dictionaries (and two spell-checkers): one for traditional orthography and one for reformed orthography. This is a legacy that has been passed on to us. (And BTW, you'd have ONE repository of words in for example traditional orthography, and the software would automatically convert to reformed orthography on an as-needed basis...)

What is the point of having two dictionaries, when we can have ONE? That is, a dictionary where you can look up words REGARDLESS of how you spell them?

Once again, when I look up միութիւն, I want to find something along the lines of this:

միութիւն (trad. spelling). Also միություն (ref. spelling). Also... another spelling if such one exists, for instance in Middle Armenian, or dialectal Armenian.

The same should happen when I look up միություն. That's what I call a handy dictionary that is useful for ALL of us.

I agree. But it should be an OPTION to display the other orthography (an option in the software).

However, in the case of a spell-checker, the user would obviously choose ONE.

Anyways, Nairi, I'll keep you updated as to when this project's framework is complete.

Private Message me how much your (or another linguist) price is per hour of your/his/her time. Do you have other friends who are linguists? Are they located in Armenia or Europe?

Thanks.

The issue with many hardcore Tashnakzagan is that they believe that the world works according to their pre-established rules. No wonder they built what they deem to be citadels of armenian life in many cities in the world. Of course these are a serious source of humour for most people that live in the normal world.

Once again ,Shahan says what I heard my whole life, that the ARF was responsible for everything that was "good" and the rest, for everything that was "bad". Typical manicheistic paranoia that created the sect called ARF.So they had an important role in liberating Karabagh (according to themselves)...what a joke.

The ARF had an important role in liberating Armenia in the early 20th century. It's because of the ARF that Armenia is not labeled as "Turkey" on the map today and you should be thankful for that. Edited by Դրօ

What could I expect from someone called Dro...so, what other fantasies do you entertain?

"It's because of the ARF that Armenia is not labeled as "Turkey" on the map today..."

Which part of the statement do you think is a "fantasy"?

Pick up an Armenian history book my friend, and study 1780 to 1925. Don't hesitate to ask questions if the history is unclear to you. I'd be more than happy to respond and cite sources.

This isn't about dividing Armenians between ARF, hunchag, and non-nationalists. This is about simple history.

Armenia has been founded along NATIONALIST lines. Armenia can continue to exist as an "Armenian" homeland only along NATIONALIST lines.

"Armenia has been founded along NATIONALIST lines."

How can a people found a country if it is not along nationalist lines? This is a ridiculous tautology.

"Armenia can continue to exist as an "Armenian" homeland only along NATIONALIST lines."

What is this, neonazi propaganda?

Books...oh, kid, you have no idea, do you?

Everything is a fantasy.Especially the point about Armenian exisiting because of the ARF.

Oh, yeah?

Then how do you explain the creation of a democratic socialist Armenia 600 years after the last Armenian kingdom from former lands of the Ottoman and Russian Empire?

A gift from our "benevolent friends" the Turks and Russians?

P.S. now you have two questions to answer -- the above, and also your previous comment: "Books...oh, kid, you have no idea, do you?" I'd like an enlightenment from you regarding what is in bold. What "idea" is it you are talking about? That the creation of Armenia was a gift of Ataturk?

I like how you retort with personal attacks instead of answering my legitimate questions; it shows that underneath your claims lies emptiness, no truth.

That's all I want to say to you Paulus.

Shahen tone down your rhetorical flabbergasting a bit, you're beginning to amuse your self only.

with only ARF being sole responsible party for first republics creation is absurd, you rule contributions of Hnchag, Armenakan, Ramkavar organizations.

ARF is and was the biggest organization, naturally involvement was as equal, most of the governments during those yeras were consisted of coalition, I.E power shared by all and in the key positions of government.
