/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Henceforth the guardian angel of ‘Sourp Amenaprkich Kazanchetsost’ Church will be the symbol of ancient Armenian town of Shushi. The guardian angel will be impressed on the coat of arms of Shoushi. This is the outcome of the contest, which was held by “Shoushi Revival”, Fund and the City Council, The PanARMENIAN.Net journalist was told in “Shoushi Revival”, Fund non-governmental organization. The author of the new coat of arms, which was approved by the Shoushi town elders, is Rouben Arutchyan, an artist from Yerevan by descent from a famous Shoushi family. In the artist’s words, he feels responsible both in front of Shoushi and his ancestors. Rouben Arutchyan passed the premium of the contest to the “Shoushi revival” Fund as his own contribution to the realization of programs to reconstruct the town.

Just change the colours into warmer ones you will get a better feel for it.

Blue is a cold colour and it does not show passion.

If Sip or someone else can change the blue behind the wings to red and leave greater background as is, it will improve drastically.

It's because we do not have a tradition of coat of arms. Prior to the first republic we were occupied territories for different superpowers of the time. And the occupied do not need such symbols. The only coat of arms since 1918 that was good has been the republic's coat of arms in 1918. Everything else we have had, and have, are garbage. That includes the Soviet Armenia coat of arms, too.

I would have hoped that by now we would have re-learned our traditions from the middle ages and before but this Shushi coat of arms proves that we are still stuck with the social realism school, and the artists who keep themselves busy with the creation of such things are untalented at best. You can come across a lot of examples of those posers in daily life. Take a look at the Andranik Ozanian's statue in Yerevan for Christ's sake.

love the coat of arms, it's armenian, it's religious, and it's traditional. any of you been to shushi? if not you should, trust me, it's worth it. even though most of the city is bombed out. you will notice that the houses formally owned by azeris are huge garbages, witnesses of the vengeance for years of pain caused by azeris on the local armenians. the shushi villagers are proud people.
