HyeFedayis
I tried researching what you said. Ossetian is, indeed, an Indo-European language in the Persian branch. However, Japanese is still an Altaic language. The Japonic group is one of the sub-divisions of the Altaic family. http://www.krysstal.com/langfams_altaic.html Just a hint, research is good make sure its reliable, websites like that are trashy, look for historian, scholar and book references. Vayri7X
Why we can not be proud of our geographical, racial and cultural identities? Why we are trying to concern to east or to west? Why we can not stay in our homeland, the Armenian Highland? Ours is too beautiful. Haykakan e, Patuakan e. I support the above. At the same time. I say to all of you who say not white=not Armenian and polly up by saying European this and that the following. : Written in English for odars to read as well. Hayastan was Hayastan, Armenia/Armenia and Armenians were Armenians before others not indigenous and native to our area *invented the idea* of "Whiteness" , which is recent ( check your current science of anthropolgy and the history of the creation of he idea of whiteness in Western Europe and North America) , which nonetheless has REAL CONSEQUENCES. And if you reading this believe in biological bases of races , nontheless, I ask you about FMF? FAMILIAL MEDITERRANEAN FEVER which is a genetic disease SPECIFIC ONLY TO PEOPLES THAT ARE MIDDLE EASTERN IN ORIGIN! Hayastan was Hayastan and Before an Orientalist perspective created the vantage point of the center as being Western Europe and N. America as the norm and everything east of that , thus the creation of the term " Middle East", again an invention which is recent to world history and especially to Armenian history. That being said: HISTORIC WESTERN ARMENIA WHICH MANY OF US ORIGINATE AND WHERE THE GENOCIDE TOOK PLACE IS IN WHAT IS NOW CONSIDERED THE MIDDLE EAST/Southwest Asia. DO NOT TRY TO ETHNICALLY CLEANSE OUR COLLECTIVE MEMORY AND CULTURE THERE AND FINISH WHAT THE TURKS STARTED JUST TO BE ACCEPTABLE TO AN INVENTED PEOPLE -i.e., whites!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vayri7X
Lately I have been hearing a lot of Armenian people on this forum depicting Armenia to be a European country and its culture as European... I still cant understand why people ignore facts so here is a little information on this matter... Lonely Planet website states the following: "If you're unsure what the flavour of southwest Asia is, a quick look around Yerevan will tell you it's Middle Eastern, albeit Middle Eastern without mosques and Islam". http://webcenter.travel.aol.com/travel/lon...ia/culture.html Although "Lonely Planet" recognizes the correct geographical area of Armenia (Southwest Asia), with much ignorance they still list it as part of Europe... I believe that in certain areas, America, though being an Industrial giant, lacks much education, or atleast the common Americans do... I agree . After reading all of this, I submitted a post . But the implications of denying elements of our culture finishes and accelerates the jermag chert.
HyeFedayis
I ask again. What is Europe? There is no one Europe but different Europes. In the other hand, also there is no one east, but different easts. You cannot put the question in this phrase. Armenians are Armenians. We are not like any others. Listen to original Armenian music. Is it European? Is it Vietnamese or what? We understand that, but today we need to fix this, okay you say this, but we need to finalize it by history by all means we can't keep saying that, our culture is more European than Asian although most our foods are used in the Middle east, ex. Dolma, baklava, lahmajoh, etc

Armenia is in Asia, that has nothing to do with our culture, for example Israel. Plus that is not reliable, scholar and historian reference is much better than those sites. I thought that Mediterranean Fever is common only among Armenians, Arabs, Jews, and Turks. So are we now to think of the Turks as our family? So are we now to think of the Turks as our family? Ես չեմ ուզում ասել, որ նրանք բռնի փեսայացան մեզ: Uninvited came and took the identities. Our enmity towards them, must not make us deny our origin. gmd
The problem with what some people here are saying is that it demonstrates that as a people we do not necessarily have a sense of ourselves. I think this was suggested in some posts already. The pride, values, traditions we have should be our own. We should not have to validate them by comparing 'our thing' with the odars. When I was in Soviet Armenia it was a status symbol to be fluent in Russian (and be 'Russian' enough to be accepted by them). In America it was English (along with the whole 'white' acceptance). If we have a sense of ourselves as the continuation of the true Armenian people then our focus should be in bringing about a renaissance of Armenian culture. Our focus should be revitalizing our language (cleaning it of many outside verbiage), focusing on integrating West/East Armenian thinking and background into a unified whole that represents Armenian pride exclusive of external 'standards'. I say all this knowing that those external influences and my own families unaware march into assimilation is a quickening of the end of our people. Zartonk
most our foods are used in the Middle east, ex. Dolma, baklava, lahmajoh, etc Our, no? Not a single one of those words OR foods* for that matter are Armenian. So before you declare us a absolute side, "know thyself". Let's stop misrepresenting ourselves guys. Please. *Hi Arpa! I know what you are thinking. What I mean is in the accepted international sense. Edited February 8, 2007 by Zartonk

SanVal
Good point, GMD. I think Armenians as a nation just want to find friends in this world, but it's pointless to do so. Armenians don't have any true friends.
