It's like totally cool, let's see who can appear more witty with the sayings about cats, persian dogs and cutting of the heads by the silk. Personally I got my money on Iran01, simply because I cannot understand what the heck any of his sayings mean. But Siamanto is giving Iran01 a run for the money with his restless determination to get his last word in. Knowing his unyielding nature this battle might be won solely by the ability to outlast the opponent, and that is when Siamanto undoubtedly shines with his skill. Emil jan, thanks. The meaning of the saying is something like: "Those who cannot [as opposed to " do not"] appreciate the fine things of life do prefer - and content themselves with - what is of inferior quality." In any case, 1- "Esh@ intch kideh noush@" does not mean "The donkey thinks it is nutsweet." It means: "The donkey cannot appreciate almond nuts." 2- In this context, "poush" is a kind of parasite herb. I would prefer "weed." I would tentatively translate it as follows (but I don't like it:) "Can a donkey appreciate fine nuts? Instead, would devour weed plants."
