  1. Esat Uras Revisited: In this book entitled Tarihte Ermeniler ve Ermeni meselesi http://books.google.com/books?id=m5EBAAAAM...Uras&pgis=1 we only see in the Turkish translation the intentions of the Turkish Historical Society. The first time this was made evident was in Armen Ayvazyan's book entitled Հայաստանի պատմության լուսաբանումը ամերիկյան պատմագրության մեջ in which he makes the connections between even ethnically Armenian members of the US academia and the revisionist anti-Armenian theories conconted by the Turkish Historical Society under the leadership of Esat Uras. While we are busy focusing on the distraction of the Big Carrot and Stick of genocide recognition, Armenian history is being chipped away from the past to the present. A chronologically reverse method of discrediting Armenian history. In short, the genocide recognition drive in the US ahs become a worldwide disctraction to Armenians. Armenians have neglected to develop scholars in the fields of linguistics, philology, archeology, paleontology, and all discinplines necessary to research Armenia's past. Armenians have focused their entire attention on genocide studies. There are very few qualified scholars who have mastery in ancient languages. The only specialsts of note with competency in cuneiform are deceased or are in service of foreign academia. For example, there are at present only 2 scholars, one in training, who specialize in the Avesta and its various translations into Pahlavi (Middle Persian) and in its new edition of Din Debireh, which is a critical document that ellucidates first the Armenian origins of Zoroaster and also the religious discourse that went on in Armenia prior to Zoroaster's rejection and exile from Armenia. None of these scholars are in Armenia, and only one is accredited and is an honorary member of the New York Academy of Sciences due to his contribution to Iranian Studies. As a result, Armenians are told by others what their ancient history has been, and without exception they are being victimized by politically charged bias. The increasingly developing paradigm in Armenian studies, both in the USSR and the West, have been that Armenians were a non-entity for the most part of their history except as client state, subjects, and minorities. The historical texts of Armenians are incresingly hyper-criticized and their narratives dimissed as hearsay and myth, and this is going on without the knowledge of the Armenian public or authorities. Genocide is the focus, and the total destruction of Armenian history is missed by all. This has the effect of first weakening the claims on historic Armenian lands, and second it has the devastating effect of demoralizing the Armenian psyche. It is rather alarming that there are very few who are cognizant of the fact that history is a long process, and the discredtation of any part of history will have detrimental consequences on the rest of the timeline in question. Without Armenian sstatehood, without Armenian presence in the remote past, in the midieval times, without the proper presentation of the devastating effects of Turkic incursions, the genocide case becomes weak and untenable.

  3. For generations, ranging from about 45 to 15 depending on the region, we have had no independent state. We have had no time to develop a national ideology of national strategy as an independent state with a strong domestic government and its necessary infrastructure. Consequently, we also have had no time developing a coherent history independent of various forces. We have been subjected to the worst nightmare of all; which is reliance on a diasporan and Soviet based academia, neither one of whom would ever hope to develop a truly independent Armenian ideology and historical study. We have been taught to believe we have objectivity in the west and also in Moscow, but we are also now being indoctrinated into thinking that we have marginal nationalists in Armenia. In other words, those who do not tow the line of the NATO and Stalinist version of Armenian history, they are to be branded nationalists. During Soviet times, you had outright persecution, suppression of ideas that were outside the Bolshevik perimeter. In the west, the diasporan is led to believe that his Armenians are more reliable and more independent. Nothing could be more insidiously deceptive and untrue. The pressure to conform is no less potent and severe in the west than it was in the Soviet era. Of course, the word nationalist is used in the extremist sense. That alone is a powerful tool to suppress legitimate inquiry into Armenian history that might be considered “too pro-Armenian,” such as the glaring evidence that links Armenians and the Hatti (Hittites.) Among a myriad other misinformation, we are told that Armenian was not the language spoken in the whole of Greater Armenia until the 2nd century. We are told that Armenia, aside from the brief interlude of the Artashesian dynasty, was at best a “client state” or “Byzantine or Parthian dominated region.” Movses of Khoren’s more “nationalist” sounding narrative is discredited with venomous diatribe: i.e. Robert Thompson, most probably a CIA asset, labeled him an “audacious and mendacious faker.” Such language is hardly academic, yet Robert Thompson is considered a legitimate scholar, while truly great scholars such as Hakob Manandian and Artashes Matevossian are mostly ignored. Legitimate critiques on Movses of Khoren and other Armenian historians and chroniclers is ignored, and the most biased and mendacious diatribes are published with the Harvard label, the Oxford label and so on. We are told that Armenians did not exist beyond the 2500 year mark. For a moment there, we were being told that no Armenian speech or a semblance of it existed in the region before the 2nd century b.c.. Yet, all the while we were told that such things are “impossible” to even reconsider, impossible to question. So much scholarship that supported the thesis that Armenians and Armenian related languages and ethnicities were there for 3 millennia before we are told Armenians came into the region from Thrace was to be ignored and still is to be ignored. In fact, not only has this politically buried scholarship make the well-supported claim that Armenians and their ethnic cousins were indeed in that region for at least 4 and half millennia, but these Armenophone cultures thrived and established large empires that dominated the region. Such things would upset the US’ “Turkish ally” more than the genocide claim. Turkey mobilized an even more potent Esat Uras to document and disseminate to the world a revised version of Armenian history that takes Armenians out of Armenia as much as possible, and if you folks get a chance to read his Turkish version, you will find familiar theories, those that are now adopted in the Western academic circles. The anti-Armenian bias will always win out until such a time when the Armenian Republic develops an influential cadre of scholars to first of all develop a serious study of all materials that deals with the topic. So far we have individual effort, some honest and diligent, some not so diligent although still honest, and yet others are attempts at opportunism. However, the sins committed by the more emotionally driven elements in the pro-Armenian camp are dwarfed by the greater sin of the anti-Armenian camp and its utter zeal to conceal and suppress evidence and scholarship that would discredit its paradigm. The anti-Armenian paradigm lives on, selling its lackeys as our heroes, playing a game of deception that is elaborate and firmly executed. The anti-Armenian bias will continue to win out especially due to the fact that our populations are incapable of believing anything grand in Armenian history. A subject people who have had little time as an independent entity in the last 7 to 10 centuries, depending on territory, are expected to be blinded when faced with a history that says Armenians had empires, large realms, powerful military force, a high culture that predated and was the possible progenitor of Greek and Mesopotamian civilization.
  4. Mos! You missed a good, standing audience show. Fantastic orchestra, great singer (really, Armine had the audience in her palm). Armen kicked ass on the clarinet, zurna and the duduk. Best rhtythm section in the Armenian world, no doubt. Things were cookin. We are probably going to have another concert at the begninng of next year. I'll keep you posted.

  6. We ran out of the complimentary tickets. Nobody from this forum resopnded anyhow, how interesting.
  7. Dear friends, I have some free tickets to a concert we're performing. The house orchestra is essentially the same core group of musicians that performed at the Hollywood Bowl: i.e. , Roma Kanyan, music director/arranger/keyboards; Hovaness Byuran, bass; Petros Arzumanyan, drum set; Avo on Dhol; Heno Mirzakhanyan on guitars; Lilit on Kanon/Davigh; Armen on Duduk; Hagop on sax/shvi/blul/flute. The arrangements are interesting, and the group is solid. It will be a good show. The event is this Sunday, the 16th, at Glendale High School at 6pm. The performer is Armine Martirossian (and guest singers), and her repertiore includes Armenian folk and some original pop songs. Please contact me if interested through forum messaging. Thank you, H

O'Byrne comes from a long time and "proud" tradition of anti-Armenians by default due to their Russopobic attitudes inherited from especially Palmerston legacy. The Brits we know were ardent Turcophiles, as were their pro-Turkish and pro-Mongol political predecessors, the Venetians in many respects. (Venice, or, rather, the Venetian-Genoese alliance, too aided the Ottomans in their detruction of the Byzantine realm and the occupation of Constantinople was phyiscally accomplished partly by Venetian and Genoese naval and engineering corps. The siege engines were primarily Venetian and Genoese. ) However, to shed further light on the Soviet branch of anti-Armenian mis-interpretations of ancient (and midieval) Armenian history, one need to look at the foundations lain by Stalin in this interesting book. http://www.rozanehmagazine.com/NoveDec05/PARTIIAzar.html Diakonov and Pyotrovski were among those who were commissioned to strengthen the fantastic pan-Turkic claims by weakening Armenian claims. Diakonov has been openly attacked in Russia for his pro-Turkic and, by extension, strongly anti-Armenian biases.
  13. Dear friends, I am not sure if this has been posted here or not (could'nt find it in a Google search). Pan-Turanism Takes Aim at Azerbaijan: A Geopolitical Agenda. http://www.rozanehmagazine.com/NoveDec05/aazariINDEX.HTML
  14. Much nationalist literature came about. Derenik Demirchyan's Vartanank, Sero Khanzatyan's Mkhitar Sparapet, and so on. Let's not exaggerate as a countermeasure. Khatchatrian and Davtyan have managed to join the chorus of insulting Diasporans. Let them stay at that level and see the error of their ways. I am hoping the debate will take on a more mature form. Actually, the Mkhitarists continued on influencing the Zartonk movement until the 20th century. Their list of pupils who contributed to the Zartonk alone should be enough demonstration, aside from the monumental works they did themselves. The entire reform process began because of phonological and morphological arguments in relation to the orthography. The entire rationale used by Abeghyan was the phonological and morphological changes that the Armenian language had gone through. His "one sound, one character" slogan is still used by the reformists of today, not reallizing while using their compromised orthography that "one sound, one character" no longer applies. Yerevan is simply not written as Յերեվան. If you had any examples of Manukyan's original orthography that was in fact implemented in 1922, you would thrown every Bolshevik into the pits of hell. Calendar was my late father's favorite: Որացույց, yes, phonetically, Voratsuyts or "buttock display."
  15. Yet more offensive and insulting nonsense. Here, finally, Mr. Khatchatryan begins to say what he needs to say. This above is far too much exaggerated, but nevertheless falls in line with the cost factor. The cost argument is valid, of course, but it has lost its meaning under all the biased and insulting propagandizing. I'll elaborate below. Mr. Khatchatrian's argumentation style is utterly unimpressive and ineffective. One does not need to indulge in falsehoods, insults, biased and intentionally misrepresentations and yet more divisive commentary to make the legitimate arguements for a 1) State centered identity and 2) the prohibitively costly prospect of and the untimeliness of any such change. Yes, it is true that Armenia in its current state cannot afford to play around with yet more confusing reforms, and the sectarian opportunism is indeed a valid example of just how the Church could possibly be shooting herself in the foot by forcing the common man to read an orthography that the common man's eye is unaccustomed to. Yes, it is true that the center of the Armenian identity will need to be the Armenian state. However, the Russian comparison is not valid for a number of reasons. The principal one is that the USSR was in effect still a Russian Empire with a different government, maintaining its Russian linguistic identity and having a Russia based statehood with a Russian capital city. No Russian Diaspora ever denied having a Russia as their country of origin or as an autonomous Russian homeland. The Armenians did not have the similar situation of having access to an Armenian homeland and state that - especially until the 1950s - did not manage to maintain links with the Diaporans and show patronage. An Armenian would have to as Moscow's blessing to visit his own homeland, and, yes, this did have serious psychological consequences. The utter cynicism and contempt the Armenian diasporan (and cleric) was treated with by the Bolshevik government centered in the RUSSIAN capital of Moscow had its consequences. Yes, the Armenian diasporan did not see, for the most part, that there was a State of his own to respect. Now, instead of inviting the Diasporan Armenian to participate and feel attachement, we are seeing the Hrant Khatchatrians of this world insulting our intelligence and downplaying our principal achievement, that of in fact having maintained our NATIONAL and LINGUISTIC IDENTITY with SUCCESS. I suggest, and "implore" Khatchatrian to take a more, much more, respectful approach to Diasporan Armenians. Perhaps he can start making us feel like we are part of the Armenian state. Perhaps then we shall be able to trust our state as our own and begin to respect its authority in our Armenian lives!
  16. And why is that? Since the 1922 reforms were thrown out in favor of a "literate man's" compromise anyhow, proper debate for Armenian centered 9and not bolshevik driven) reform is possible, practical, necessary, and strategically important. There is already more than one orthography in place and actively used in Armenia. It's only a matter of time before change occurs, as the author implies, reluctantly. Many media outlets and the Church are using the classical. Kocharian just learned the language, so that should be no problem. They are in the minority. The majority use the classical orthography. Oh, also important is that the "new orthography" has not prevented those editors and writers from making spelling and grammatical errors. How interesting.
  17. Part III of the response to propaganda. This reminds one of bolshevik cynicism directed at the "bourgois." Blaming the literate man is a Bolshevik pattern of thought. Perhaps one day such conditioning will be gone. However, the most important factoid is that Abehgyan's orthography was rejected by the literate men such as Ajarian precisely becuase they made the wise decision to make the reform at least slightly legible to the existing literate cadre. The "illiteracy" argument is a lie and a farce. Therefore, the solution by Abeghyan was to make EVERYONE illiterate "for the sake of progress." How irrational an argument. the main component that contributed to literacy was a stable state and government. Instead, we have the one dimensional misargument of 1) blaming the literate elite and 2) the orthography for illiteracy. Turkey has a standard, no brainer and idiot proof, orthography developed by an Armenian, but the Turkish citizenry is still largely illiterate. Therefore, the syllogism above is invalid. This was not the case in Lebanon, Syrian, Ethiopia, Greece, Egypt until the 1950s. In Lebanon, Egypt, and Ethiopia (among those that I know) the language of study was principally Armenian on all subjects until the 1970s, and I am a product of that system. The Syrian government started forcing the Arabic language on "hard subjects" in the early 1980s, and this has had an effect, but not to the level adverstised. I know for a fact that we have, especially those generations, equal or better mastery of the Armenian language and tend to use less foreign terms in all levels of conversation. Vartahour knows that perfectly well, and this is why we are having problems understanding the dissemination of such utterly mendacious propaganda by perfectly sane men. As the matter of fact, Vartahour, it irritates me to no end that most Armenians from Armenia do not know Armenians terms for most common items. Aniv is "bagrishka" and argelak is "tormuz" and so on. I have met numerous individuals who still think that Bagrishka is an Armenian term! This, you know perfectly well. Aha, the "active language of literates" says that Aniv is "Bagrishka" and believes that "bagrishka" is Armenian! Such bias. In short, this above "aurhor" is either a fool and an agent provocatuer or is completely bolshevik in his unthinking. Nonsense. There is nothing "obvious" about mendacity and propaganda except mendacity and propaganda.
  18. This is beginning to deteriorate in the exact same macro model we have been witnessing regarding this issue. This above is incorrect as well and is incredibly biased. It's again the equivalent of fighting ARF bullshit with Bolshevik bullshit, to borrow from Tolstoy. Paruyr Sevak was a national intellectual of the highest caliber, and this sort of abusive commentary does a great mind such as he great injustice. Sevak, moreoever, hinted at having dissagreed with the current anti-clerical "reformist" orthography, among other items. The soviet system did put a muzzle, but many did circumnavigate the system and did produce great national scholarship. My speciality field of musicology, for example, made fantastic progress during the soviet era. It's rather interesting that only ARF affiliated names are given. Sounds and reads like a AYF meeting just ended. I agree. It is a ridiculous argument. As I posted here http://hyeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=16...t=0#entry204278 we might as well accuse the entire Greek nation of "probable illiteracy" becuae the Greeks kept their classical orthography. The Greeks also were not totally deprived of their intellectuals, high ranking clergy, and monastic cadre. We, instead, were "more socialist than Russians, more Turkish that Ottomans" and so on becuase our head had just been cut off in 1915. All the anger aside, one thing that alarms me the most is the total diminuation of the huge role the Mkhitarist's played in the Zartonk. The Zartonk really began at Surb Ghazar if one is honest (and non-partisan) in his analysis. The actual Eubonics failed to pass, and Abeghyan's original proposals were shot down by H. Ajaryan and others. The current orthography is actually a compromise. Please read this http://hyeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=16...t=0#entry204279. I am trying to finish with the response to Khatchatryan's propaganda piece. There are too many threads on this topic! Totally agree. Ironically, that is what socialist reformism was all about, to throw away all traditions. "Baby out with the bathwater" is the phrase. The peasant population did not need to learn "eubonics" back then either. They were, instead, taught one dialect as standard. I see no difference in imposing a single dialect versys grabarr as official medium. Some dialects, moreover, were closer grammatically and lexically to grabarr than to the current dialect!
  19. The dollar amount in circulation itself is an artificial valuation system, and the false percecption of valuation via so-called hard-currency comparisons is totally irrelevant. The relevant bnechmark is the economy itself and its hard existing assets, not the so-called perceived value of its currency, which in itself is devalued against its own domestic assets if the process is a natural one. In this case, the devaluation process was politically driven and totally artificial. The solid assets were themselves devalued under the pretext of maintaing their former value according to the Ruble (then the Dram), which is a completely politically motivated looting program of assets. The dollar is something with no intrinsic value and has no more merit in valuation of real assets than any currency in relative terms. It's current valuation or devaluation is principally via politivcal pressure and, t a slightly lesser extent, diplomatic capital. Hugo Chavez knows that very well, as a current example. Putin's government rejected the IMF's recommended valuations of solid assets, even what they were trying to spin off as outdated inudstrial facilities. Putin in essence pushed off any hope for any meaningful IMF control. (So did Chavez. So did Lula, Mahathir, and a host of "undesriable" others.) The devaluation's artificiality becomes evident in three ways: 1. The source of justification for the devaluation, which is always the same schools of thought linked to western based global corporate interests. 2. The irrational percentage of devaluation of even hard assets such as labor, light industrial output, agricultural output, and mineral wealth. 3. The irrational levels of devlation of critical skilled labor targeted specifically a technology and education. 4. The utterly dishonest act of using the domestic currency value of assets as the means to determine actuql value. (Teacher's salaries were 500 rubles, and now they are 10 dollars, which is irrational, artificial, immoral, and illegal. This method is now being rejected both violently and legally/politically all over Latin America and Asia. Hopefully Armenia is next) No one can make sense out of this except throug the artificial valuation of using hard-currency as false substitute benchmark for real asset valuation.
  20. There is however one important distinction to the Armenia origin claim: It makes the most geographic and archeological sense. There are no whale bone remnants or whale motif myths in Sumer. However, there is Enki with the twin rivers flowing from his shoulders while he has his feet on a twin peaked mountain. There are three priods of Sumerian culture and symbology: 1. The oldest is in (historic and present) Armenia where rock carvings (at the base of Massis, as the matter of fact) have been identified as precursors and ancestors to Sumerian mythic symbology. This is not something amateur Armenian historians say. 2. The second wave is what is called by Ubbayid period of pre-Sumerian culture in central Iraq. This is also not something Armenian amateur historians say. 3. The third and final is the Sumerian layer itself in the area identified as Sumer. This culture migrated south using the greatest migration routes available to neolithic and bronze age sedentary and semi-pastoral populations: The two biggest rivers to Sumer, Tigris and Euphrates, both originating in navigable form in Armenia. The indian origins theory was rejected in 1955 by comparative mythology when the claim that the Sumerian deity, Ningizzidda was of south Indian origins. the overwhelmingly dominant theme of Sumerian mythology, however, points to mountainous origins. There is no doubt that there was interaction of migrating peoples, and it is possible that either Ningizzidda was from Sumer originally or India. Also, since it is only one single tribe in South India who knew of Ningizzidda as a divinity, this idea was thrown out. As to lingusitic connections, it's a toss up. Check this concept: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprachbund
  21. Both Khorenatsi and Pzados Buzand have much valuable stuff, many specific references and details to domestic events, ritual, traditions, state policy, aristocratic lineage, and so on (the list of valueable material is huge), but Pavsdos Buzand and Khorenatsi were exaggerating the number of Հրեա. It's been playing in the minds of academics for a long time that the term Հրեա is a generic one that denotes all Canaanites, all of the people from the Sinai to Ugarit north of where Latakia, Syria is now. All those people who had common forms of worship and similar semitic dialects (yes, they did) were considered to be Հրեա. In the Bible the only direct transliterations from Hebrew and Judaean into Armenian are Եբրայեցի and Յուդայազուն: Հրեա is not a direct and specific reference to either the Hebrew or the Judaean. it might be the case where north west Syrians, peoples from the entire coast of "canaan" (i.e. as mentionted above, from Ugarit to Sinai), would have been considered one single people brought over by Tigran, among them some Judaeans or Hebrews. I wouldn't be surprised if Assyrians were confused for Syrians and other semites in oral transmissions of events that predated these men by 200-500 years or so. The best indication that there was no great presence in Armenia of Judaeans of any sect is the near total lack of references to Halakhic studies in Armenia. There is no record of it for a people who are diligent record keepers and are very careful of recording all religious correspondance. The conclusion is that the numbers were exaggerated back then, and they are being exaggerated now by over-zealous political theorists.
  22. You can listen to Mr. Perkins at your leisure. http://youtube.com/results?search_query=john+perkins or better yet here http://youtube.com/results?search_query=Economic+Hit+Man I also have a 512MB file from a C-Span boradcast of his booksigning for the latest book. I will make statement of sobriety that we are, no matter who, mere speculators of the actual events, true debt figures, and repayment conditionalities that come with them. There are a couple of points that people who mention the double digit growth always miss: 1. The double-digit growth comes after a 10,000% devaluation. In other words, the economy has been artificially devalued by a whopping 100 factor, from once having been an economy with the dollar equivalent output of 300 billion or so, to one that is only capable of 3 to 4 billion output, and no one truly knows the actual GNP. We just know what these are the presented figures. 2. Armenian had to give Russia its "pound of flesh" in the form of handing over strategic assets, the most imporant of which were the two largest power plants. Russia's "bail-out" is consistent with the behavior of having one loan shark save you from another for purely political reasons. Russia's extortion pre-empted western extortion to a degree, but this is not necessarily indication of Armenia's recovery from IMF pressure. I see no reason to credit any administration.
  23. If it's worth anything, I'm singing background vocals in that song--- http://youtube.com/watch?v=fV2CEInfsrw&amp...;search=Kochari Producer, arranger, Roma Kanyan...
  24. Come on, friends--- , you men are responsible for the sponsorship of academics, but you are also responsible in being examples. I'll avoid direct involvement in your heated conditions. I thought such vendettas didn't linger on for decades, but perhaps I was wrong!
