WRONG PRIORITIES, AGAIN Avedis Kevorkian http://www.keghart.com/Kevorkian-WrongPriorities August 15, 2011 Let me state the fact plainly so as to spare people the time and effort to accuse me: I do have a perverse sense of humor. Or, is it a perverse sense of values? Recently, I learned (and read in one of the Armenian newspapers) that a former Armenian Ambassador to Her Majesty's Government (he was also a former Prime Minister of Armenia) and a collection very wealthy Armenians from around the world made a big show of contributing much money to an Armenian charity and to a pet project of Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, and the heir to the throne. There were the usual photos taken with His Highness (and with other Royals), all of which are now hanging in prominent places in their homes. "That's me with. . . ." and "That's me with. . . ." What brought a smile to my lips was reading a report that when the BBC did a feature on His Highness's project, the contributions of the Armenians--the Reception, the photo sessions, etc--were never mentioned. The report to me didn't say if any other wannabe group's contributions were mentioned, but that is not the point. What is the point is that these same wannabes probably don't know what else is going on in London. It is a reflection on the mentality of the crooks and thieves and thugs who run Armenia that not one of their officials has, for instance, visited the British Library to see the magnificent Armenian collection--reportedly second only to that in Yerevan--although they did manage to get to Buckingham Palace. Why is that such an indictment? Because, in its infinite wisdom, the British Library is closing down the entire Christian Middle East collection--the work of the greatest living Armenian, Rev. Nerses Nersessian (who was not invited to the Gala, I would wager), who is retiring after 35 years as the head of the section. I am told that during the period of Soviet Armenia, visiting officials always made it a requirement that they must visit the British Museum, which housed the collection prior to the building of the present Library. No doubt, the Republic's officials feel that since they can't make any money from the collection why waste time visiting, when there are casinos to go to. As for the wannabes who now can name-drop "Prince Charles" in their conversations, I, also, wonder if they care that the British Museum has committed a major insult to the Armenians and Armenian culture. It has removed from display an ancient khatchkar donated to the British Museum by the late Catholicos Vazken. It was removed once before at the urging of the then Turkish Ambassador. When the officials of the Museum were reminded that in accepting the donation, the Museum agreed to DISPLAY OR RETURN the khatchkar, the khatchkar was returned to display because "we don't return anything." Whether or not the present Turkish ambassador has anything to do with this removal--the Museum, in a letter to me, denies it ("but they would, wouldn't they?")--my efforts for its restoration (or return) will continue. I know it would be fruitless to contact the wannabes to enlist their support, so I will fight the battle in my way. If being with His Highness didn't get them coverage on the BBC, fighting on behalf of Armenian culture certainly will not. But, just think (he says to himself, with that smile) what would happen if the rich Armenians led by the former Ambassador/Prime MInister were to march on the British Museum and say: "Display or Return!" Imagine the BM's quandary. Every Hellen from 1000 miles around Britain would be demanding the return of the Elgin Marbles! But, I am digressing. Why do I smile when I hear these sorts of reports? Because I assume a smug, self-satisfied--Yes, conceited--attitude that I am the only one who gives a damn about the important things concerning Armenia and things-Armenian. To my knowledge, the khatchkar is the only thing-Armenian at the Museum, and it should be on display, not consigned to the basement. It is a simple statement of fact that more people will see the magnificent Armenian collection in London than will ever see the one in Yerevan. If the British Museum and the British Library get their way--and, they will, rest assured--it will be a greater tragedy than the omission of any reference to the wannabe Armenians at the Reception with Prince Charles and their contribution to his Dumfries House restoration project. That restoration will happen without a penny from the Armenians, but what of the insult to the ancient culture of the Armenians by the British Museum and the British Library? Will those who contributed to Prince Charles's project now ask him to fight the battle for the restoration of the khatchkar and of the Christian Middle East collection? Do pigs fly? That smile has now gone from my face. Comments Self-serving Moguls Submitted by Ghevont on Sun, 2011-08-21 11:36. Unfortunately, you are perfectly correct. These self-serving Armenian "moguls" are contributing to the erosion of any and all Armenian values that have been established especially since the Genocide for the purpose of preserving the Armenian identity as well as to make the world aware of our presence. These thoughtless, greedy and selfish "moguls" unfortunately confirm the Armenian adage: "Poshan khanum ch'ullar".

MR AND MRS AMBASSADOR: BIZARRE JOB SHARE OF OUR MAN - AND WOMAN - IN ARMENIA FOR BRITISH EMBASSY hetq August 21, 2011 By Martin Delago In London & Will Stewart In Moscow The Foreign Office has been accused of making Britain a laughing stock by appointing a married couple to share a senior diplomatic appointment. Jonathan Aves and his wife Katherine Leach will take turns to be the ambassador to Armenia, each doing the job for four months while the other spends that time looking after their children. Critics in the former Soviet republic say the unusual arrangement means Britain is displaying a 'lack of seriousness' towards the country. The controversy comes after it was revealed that the current ambassador recently married an Armenian woman working at the British Embassy. The two developments have led to local politicians nicknaming the British mission the 'love embassy'. Mr. Aves, 51, and his 41-year-old wife will both have the title of ambassador when they move to the Armenian ¬capital, Yerevan, next January with their children Maddie, seven, Mimi, four, and Joe, two. But the announcement has surprised many Armenians and there is concern that it could reduce Britain's standing in the country, an important ally in the strategically sensitive Caucasus region between Europe and Asia. Although the Armenian government was obliged to accept the dual appointment, veteran diplomat Arman Navasardyan was critical. 'The British do not take us Armenians seriously. I doubt whether they would send a couple to the United States or many other countries,' said the country's former deputy foreign minister. 'Ambassadors normally spend their first two years getting to know the country and only the third year brings real returns. Yet here we have a wife as ambassador for a few months, then her husband. Then what? Madam again? 'The attitude here is predictable - raised eyebrows and laughter. We don't understand why Armenia should be treated in this manner.' The Foreign Office was so keen to avoid causing offence that it sent its Central Asia regional director, Laurie Bristow, to Yerevan in June to discuss the proposal with ministers. But the arrangement has caused particular amusement in the landlocked country because the current ambassador, Charles Lonsdale, 46, married his Armenian Press secretary two months ago. The only other country where there is a similar dual appointment is Zambia, where the job of High Commissioner - equivalent in rank to ambassador - is shared by Tom Carter and his wife Carolyn Davidson. An official Armenian source, who asked not to be named, said: 'There was some surprise but we were told this was the latest trend in the Foreign Office and that a similar scheme worked well in Zambia. 'Now the British have the letters A to Z covered by this arrangement, no doubt more will follow. My question is whether they would foist such a self-indulgent plan on a country they think of as important.' Britain recognized Armenia as an independent state in 1991 after the fall of the Soviet Union, and the two governments have strong trade and diplomatic links. Mr. Aves was a lecturer in Russian studies at Sussex University before joining the Foreign Office, and his wife worked in public opinion research prior to her diplomatic career. The couple, from Brentwood, Essex, recently completed a joint posting at the British Embassy in Tokyo but the move to Yerevan will be their first ambassadorial role. Ms Leach said: 'Doing the job jointly will enhance our effectiveness at work, as well as giving us both the chance to spend time with our children while they are young. 'We will keep each other closely informed during each four-month period, keep good records, agree a joint approach on key issues and ¬decisions, and will often attend the same events and meet the same ¬people as ambassador and spouse.' A Foreign Office spokesman said: 'Joint postings are a modern way of working which help deliver the best possible diplomatic service in the host country. 'They also provide better value for the UK taxpayer as they keep families together and reduce travel and shipping costs.'

KARABAKH SCHOOLGIRL REFUSES TO ACCEPT AZERBAIJANI AUTHORITIES' INVITATION DUE TO THREATS FROM AZERBAIJAN news.am Aug 18, 2011 Armenia STEPANAKERT. - After Karabakh schoolgirl Adeline Avakimyan received an answer from Baku to the letter she addressed to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, journalists of independent newspaper Nor Edge decided to find out how much the answer satisfied her. "You cannot call that an answer because an employee of Azernaijani presidential administration named Aslanov did not give an outright answer to any of my questions, although his letter was twenty times longer than mine," said Adeline. "I wrote that President Aliyev always speaks about Karabakh and war as if he has nothing else to think of and no other problems or goals actually trouble him. I asked, why he always thinks of invading our country. Why do they need Karabakh, which is not theirs? Isn't he satisfied with his own lands? I also wrote that if he starts a new war the whole Armenian nation will rise to defend our land but he, his children, relatives and friends will hardly go fighting - they will send ordinary Azerbaijani youth. I asked the President why he always buys guns when he could have used that money to build an easy and happy life for your people. Isn't it better than sending people to war? If I knew I will get this kind of reply I would never write that letter. Instead of answering my questions, they turned to telling fairy tales. They think I don't know the history of my country and try to fool me. What I badly dislike is that they referred to me as Azerbaijani citizen and called Stepanakert Xankandi. As if they, the strangers, are to deice how to call my hometown," she said. Asked about the invitation to visit Azerbaijan, Adeline said she cannot accept the invitation. "How can they invite me to Azerbaijan when in response to my letter Azerbaijani filled Internet with threats to destroy all the Armenians, began to call me and my compatriots with all sorts of dirty words. They think that I don't know how they killed and expelled thousands of Armenians living in Azerbaijan. I got convinced how aloof they are to me. I don't believe them. Instead I would offer them to come and see that there are Armenian alphabet letters carved on the stones of Gandzasar, Amaras and other ancient temples of Artsakh," said Adeline. On August 8, a schoolgirl from Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) Republic Adenile Avakimyan sent a letter to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. "Mr. President, Every time I watch TV, I read or listen to the stories of elders I get surprised: all the time you speak about Karabakh and war as if you have nothing else to think of. It seems you do not have any other problems or goals and no other issue actually troubles you. I never saw an Azerbaijani. I do not think about you, about your country and neither do my parents. I do not really understand what you want from our country. I know that you have never been to Artsakh, you have never seen our Gandzasar, Dadivank, Amaras but you always think about capturing our country. Why can't you be satisfied with your own lands? Why do you want Karabakh? Grandpa told me that before the war, even 50 or 100 years ago, when Azerbaijanis still lived here, they did not bury their deceased here, they took them to Azerbaijan, because people knew that this is not their motherland. That is why we have so few Azerbaijani cemeteries," reads her letter.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN RENOUNCE EUROVISION oikotimes.com http://www.oikotimes.com/eurovision/2011/08/16/system-of-a-down-renounce-eurovision/ Aug 16, 2011 ARMENIA World-known Armenian-American rock-singer Serj Tankian met journalists on August 15 at the big hall of Moscow House. Journalists asked about the possibility of the SOAD participation in "Eurovision 2012" song contest in Baku. "Eurovision does not worth System of a Down (SOAD) to participate in it" Tankian announced and added it was good idea to participate in the contest from political point of view. The singer also told the story how the information of their possible participation was spread in mass media. "A journalist in Finland asked me whether SOAD will participate in Eurovision song contest and I asked "What is it?" The journalist then wrote Serj Tankian will participate, and the rumors were spread". The singer also added he claimed to deny this information. "Even Turkish Parliament started to discuss this". Note, many people in Armenia want to see group System of a Down in Baku during the "Eurovision 2012" song contest.
