Little bit off the topic: MAY I, PLEASE? Few years ago in one of our "armenian gatherings" a Canadian-Armenian woman asked another Armenian woman (she was from RoA): ---Inchpes gutats ek Chinastan@ ? The woman from Armenia looked at us, felt kind of "uncomfortable" and answered: ---De... Samalyot enk nstel, ekel, eli...

my interpretation would be: The bulb is the transcripts that religions use (koran, bible whatever), the sock is the religion, and the guys hitting their heads with it are people who engage themsleves with the two things. p.s. please don't hate me

After reading this post, I really felt sorry for... Storming! I don't know why?! Really, in the end of the post i felt like: "poor guy to have this kind of thoughts". (sorry, couldn't help it.) well, let's say Stroming is the smart and pragmatic one, i am the daydreamer... what ever. No, i have never thought or even had doubts about a dead body being used for necrophilia in a hospital or a research institution! U may call me naive, but i do believe in high morality of doctors! and others, too. I do know about cases nurses or even doctors killing their patients, but ...really... not entering the forest cause of being scared to meet a wolf?! And the bottom line is: "DEAD BODY IS USELESS FOR THE DEAD ONE ANYWAY!" Unless one beleives that he might come back to life, of course... I know that ancient chinese would cut the heads of the dead bodies if they didn't want those "bodies" to have second life: no life without head, ha My propose in life is to be useful, and I will do all I can to prolong that usefullness as far as possible! p.s. As a child, when i still didn't know that a dead body could be useful, I had told that I'd like my body to be burnt: saving place on the earth

I think one person can have as many answers to "are u afraid of death?" as many minutes (well, ok maybe hours or days ) in her/his life, cause the answer will be different during different times of life. When one is happy, successful, young, or has to take care of beloved ones etc then the person will want to avoid death, thus being kind of "afraid" or it. but when someone is going through many misfortunes in life, or is unhealthy, or very old and tired etc might not care about death, thus not be "afraid" of it. Right now i am very happy, so i'd like to avoid death, so i guess it makes me "afraid" of it for now. But i have stated that after i die, i'd like my body to be given to a hospital or an institution if they'd like to "learn" more about human body. as for my soul, well, i don't really care, cause without the body, i don't exist anyway. So, when i think how much i don't care about what happens after death, i guess it actually proves, that, probably, i am not afraid of it, cause i don't care.... well... i am little bit confused Anyway, i have had few car accidents, and when the others in the car were scared to death and screaming, i didn't feel anything and thought:"oh, well." Maybe, i am little bit strange Or... do u think it is possible to "ignore" death, because of being "angry" against it?

Out of the topic: please write my name with "t" in the end, PLEASE, PLEASE... don't laugh at me, but i kind of don't like seeing my name written in another way.

Yes, Azat, I was here during the floods. China took care of it better than the States did, having in mind the fact that the USA has more money, better technology and LESS PEOPLE to take care of which is not the case with China. What shocked me most about the huricane Katrina was what i heard and saw on the French news channel TV5: the US government has had hundreds of empty houses all that time, built and "ready" for emergencies (sorry, can't remember in which state exactly), but no family from New Orleans was "put" in them. in fact, the houses were empty all the time. SO MANY HOUSES!!! ALL EMPTY!!! and the government didn't evacuate people and put them in those houses that WERE BUILT FOR EMERGENCIES! in China and many other countries they don't have that kind of huge projects against emergencies, which is not good, of course, but I beleive if they had they'd use the houses for their people. I was shocked that the US government didn't "open" those houses for the people! If they can afford flying aircrafts to invade other countries, they can afford to evacuate their own people from disasterous places, can't they? or use that money to rebuilt the damage fast, no? Another huge thing was the racism durign the huricane: the poor count for nothing. i think the whole world was shocked, even the us citizens themselves.

Few weeks ago, in a "foreigners' gathering" one foreigner was showing off with a book on North Korea. Everyone was thrilled about reading it later, of course: it was written by a westerner, so u can only imagine all the "good" stuff in it that they actually already had been told about, but wanted to be "re-sured" again. I am amazed how people, particularly the ones from rich western countries can be so happy to read and hear bad things and mishaps about other "different" (politically, economically, religiously, culturally etc) coutries! I JUST DON'T GET IT! u know, i read about the auther of that book: the introduction DIDN'T mention anything about him being in North Korea! so how did he manage to write a book about it, especially a chapter like "a tipical day"? In HyeForum we talked about a "historian" who is i think married to a turkish woman (if i remember right) and "works" on denying the Genocide, remember? i don't get it. i think it doesn't matter where things happen. what really matters, is that bad things still happen with all the technology and medicine and education and MONEY around... i think it's a disgrace for mankind not a specific country or a banch of people who are known as the "leaders" of that country. I know, i know... i sound too naive... i have even been told many times to stop thinking of changing anything in this world, cause it's impossible...bla bla bla But i can have my special ideas, right? and trying to make the world a better place is not a crime, even if noone believes in it, right? And, yes, the weak ones have always got my sympathy afterall, my country also drops under the category of the "developing countries"...
-
Oh, yeah, u might be right: it wasn't very wise to do it in THEIR OWN COUNTRY, they should have done it in another poor country, just like the rich ones do, right? And perheps even PAY for that, so it could look REALLY "legal". And as u like going far in the history, I think everyone knows why Japan was really bombed: to see the real strenght of the new wepon. As for the three gorges, u forgot about the "special fish" they have at the area too. But for me the most important thing is what my country has done to its' lake Sevan: it had an island, u know. so, when it comes to relevant subjects about other countries... well... my grandmother always would tell me: "mani mani ur es gnum? - mani asoxi durn em gnum". before pointing on at others, lets have a look at ourselves. Armenia needed Sevan just like China needs the project in the Gorges. Anyway, Storming, whatever u think about China, just know one thing for sure: it is not as evil as u have been told. Anyone/anything (including a country) that is different from the rest and doesn't take orders easily is always pointed at and discluded from the game (speaking out of personal experiences), but it doesn't make them worse. there are always many ways of achieving the same objective. China IS becoming stronger, richer, better... AND SO FAST! It has done so much in such little time, that others just can be jealous And freaking out of course Noone wants an aprising of a strong powerful rival.

No. Dis-respect is based on judgment, respect comes from the heart/feelings. I heard many times people to complain that some other ones (the child, or a friend, a relative etc) has no respect towards her/him. And I'd ask that person: "have u done anything to make the person respect u the way u want?" NO. "so, -i'd say,- the person has no special feelings for u,including respect. " The person would tell me then: "but i haven't done anything bad!" and my answer would be: "and that is why they don't disrespect u!" Respect is not a mere feeling for me, it is something strong and deep. i have some friends that i only love, but don't respect very much (but i don't disrespect them, cause i love them: it's impossible to love and disrespect someone at the same time), cause they are nice to me, but they are not good people: they enjoy hurting others' feelings.
-
Yes, the inequality in income is very very disturbing and the pollution, medical care, educational system ... many problems, that I hope they can solve as fast as possible.
-
I think respect is something we earn from others and something that others earn from us. And I think tolerance is something we are born with (some people have high degree of tolerance, some have law degree, some have non...), and which can actually change throughout life because of the experiences and knowledge we gain (or at least i hope so). As for HyeForum, i like it

Storming, u must understand, that, how much i hate saying this, but EVERY COUNTRY is FAR from being perfect! And u must know that THE ONES WHO ARE RICH AND HAVE THE MEANS OF CHANGING THINGS FAST, WHO PREATCH ONE THING BUT DO THE OPPOSIT ARE MUCH WORSE THAN THE ONES WHO ARE POOR, LACK TECHNOLOGY (or even worse, are not allowed by super powers to use it). WHY ARE U TALKING ABOUT THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA OR THE GULAGS OF RUSSAI: IT IS IN THE PAST AND WE ALL HAVE LEARNT FROM IT! (by the way, u could have mentioned the cultural revolution of china too). TALK ABOUT THE HURICAIN KATARINA AND THE SITUATION IN IRAQ!!! no need to go too far in history and blame for things u can not change. look what is happening now! yes, CHina IS DOING MUCH BETTER THAN OTHERS! yes, i DO prefer China than the USA or other western countries with double-standards. at least China is not attacking other countries right now! and it helps its people against natural disusters instead of killing innocent citizents of other countries!

It is so well made and sooooo true!!! Thanks for sharing it with us! Yes, u can't imagine what East Asian girls would do here to be with a westerner(=white guy/man here.) And the girls really don't care about his personality and looks: be he an old, with big-belly, bold, married teacher or a skinny drug-abusing ugly youngster, EVERYTHING IS FINE AS LONG AS HE IS A WHITE FOREIGNER. I must admit that East Asian boys/men are really very borring and most of the time not fisically strong, instead rather cute and tender looking, or very ugly Sometimes i feel sorry for chinese girls, cause they have no choice but marrying these guys

Stroming, chinese do more plastic surgeries than u can ever imagine: NOT ONLY eyes, but also nose, chin etc. and what they do to their eyelashes! i was shocked! anyway, as they say: "beauty requirs secrifises" and in CHina they can offord and they DO spend a lot on it. Sasun wrote well about the Wall, so i will skip it. There isn't any country (or at least a major country) that doesn't do bad things, and they in the west do much worse things, specailly having in mind what they preach, than China does. The communist idealogy didn't have as much impuct on chinese people as westerners claim! NO WAY!!!!! I grew up under a communist regime just like my parents, my friends, teachers etc did, but there is NO WAY comparing us (or russians, for example) with chinese: we are sooooo different! Even these days both in life and politics and specially in business there is MUCH MORE chinese specific traditional values included than communist ideas! trust me on this! if u come to China after learning about communist idealogy and the way that a social conutry should be, u will have major problams and will end up with a broken heart few days ago even a foreign friend of mine (an old professor from Canada) who has travelled and studied a lot all over the world, told me in shock that China is "the most capitalist country i have ever been to". just a simple example: THE EDUCATION IS NOT FOR FREE!!!! even the elementary education! as for Taiwan, u must anderstand, that Taiwan+Mainland=China: Mainland belongs to Taiwan just as Taiwan belongs to Mainland: the ruling parties are the cause of "separation". they have been togather untill the guomindang ran away from the Mainland and established a rule of it's own in Taiwan. if the communist party with red army had fought all the way to Taiwan and won, Taiwan would had been under their rule too. having 2 parties ruling one country should not be the reason for this country to separate: look at the koreas. westerners are very happy about the situation, cause they gain from it (military bases, economic ties etc) but it hearts me to see one nation and country separated like that. i would never like that to happen to my country. Besides, i have heard that the map of Taiwan is including the Mainland just like the Mainland's map is.

Although i don't listen to that kind of music much, but I really like "Anapati Arev". i dance under that song in my room very often But i never played it during my B-day parties, cause it does sound a lot like an arabic song, and i don't want others to think that armenia is an arabic country. i also don't wear traditional clothes i have from other countries, cause, again, i don't want others to think we in armenia drees up like that another thing about me: because i neither smoke nor drink, they(foreigners here) always think i am muslim As for the group "Reflex", well... 2 or 3 years ago they had a song "padali zvyozdi" (the stars were falling) and i liked it very much i find one of the girls quite pretty (the one that looks like a fox)

There was this couple that had been married for 20 years. Every time they made love the husband always insisted on shutting off the light. Well, after 20 years the wife felt this was ridiculous. She figured she would break him out of this crazy habit. So one night, while they were in the middle of a wild, screaming, romantic session, she turned on the lights. She looked down... and saw her husband was holding a battery-operated leisure device... a vibrator! Soft, wonderful and larger than a real one. She went completely ballistic. "You impotent bastard," She screamed at him, "how could you be lying to me all of these years? You better explain yourself!" The husband looks her straight in the eyes and says calmly: "I'll explain the toy . . . you explain the kids."

Yes, Sasun, u are right. I also don't like when westerners criticize china too much. afterall they ARE doing huge changes in every aspect of the life in their country. we must never forget the population it has: look at Armenia: merely 3 million people and so many problems! i really think that the ordinary people need to be educated about new big changes and/or must get to know it gredually before the changes can be trully excercised. see what happened to the USSR? the "doors" got open too fast and without any detailed imformation about what we thought would should be doing or we should get. for example, people were so excited about "democracy", "liberalizm", "capitalizm", but they didn't know that the other countries who more or less reached these 3 things, had a very long way to go and didn't get it over a night. so, I think it's ok for China to take all the time it needs to do all the changes it wants. afterall, "in the end it won't matter if it is A+B or B+A, cause the result is the same" like, (I AM NOT SURE WHO SAID IT), probably Deng Xiaoping said.

wow! really?! that's interesting!

they also have made changes in policies: from "和平发展"(peaceful development) to “和谐社会/世界”(harmonious society/world). why? because the whole world was and still is very anxious about china's development: they all see it as a big threat, and chinese just got fed up by trying to percuade others for the contrary, so they just decided to change "peaceful development" to "harmonius society" (domestic policies) and "harmonious world" (foreign policies) cause the latter "guarantees" and/or "shows" more peace and security as for the idioms and aphorisms, they have always been the part of the chinese culture: meaning that they have always been used by everyone, ecpecially famous people (like teachers, emperors, politicians in modern life whoever is famouse) for centuaries. i really don't see much special in what Hu Jingtao has said. it's been quite a while since they have the slogans like "做文明人,建文明社会"(become civilized person, build civilized society)etc. "Uphold/attach importance to science" has been "around" for a loooong time.
