Gorgor, the vowel thing is very Eastern Armenian. The Russian language really had not connection to it. It is mostly from Eastern Armenian dialects that cut the vowels to ease the pronunciation of the word. I would even be willing to argue that this influence is more from Farsi or Turkish but since I don't speak any of these languages I can't be sure.

Telling Phantom what is wrong and right and how he should save himself is prosletyzing and typical to the American Evangelical style "teachings". I am saying that this is not typical to the Armenian Church (and I would like to regard the institution of the Armenian Church as it is represented in all parts of the world not just US). The debate in this thread should be about the views of the Armenian Church not the general views of the Christianity and the brand of Protestant Christianity that exists in the US today (unless you want to change the title of the thread). So what is the view the Armenian Church on human sexuality? Of course, sexuality and particularly homosexuality is denied by any of the Christian institutions. That should not even be debated, I think. However, is the Armenian Church as harsh on denouncing homosexuality, or has it been as harsh throughout history compared to other Christian beliefs, and of course compated to other religions. Believe it or not this is a simple secular argument, this is not how YOU feel about the particular issue but rather how the general institution of the Armenian Church has been accepting this issue throughout history and today. The role of the Armenian Church compared to other Christian churches has been particularly unique based on our history. It has been and become a central institution for the preservation of our culture, literature and finally sense of what Armenianness is. Although the success of this can be debated as well, in any case because of our unique history and the unique role that the Armenian Church had throughout history, the issues of homosexuality and of sexuality have been mainly ignored or suppressed. In other words, the church did not "care" since it simply did not have time to care. I would argue, for that reason the preservation of the family values in the Armenian culture has been shifted to the family itself. Therefore, Armenians version of refraining from homosexual desires is mostly linked to the family values etc. not as much the religious beliefs. I am also trying to present you a view point that is somehow representative of Armenians in general (Armenia, Russia, US -various groups), not of just New Jersey or New York. ok, my 2 cents and my last post in this thread. Here are some definitions from Catholic Encyclopedia The name Apostle denotes principally one of the twelve disciples who, on a solemn occasion, were called by Christ to a special mission. In the Gospels, however, those disciples are often designated by the expressions of mathetai (the disciples) or dodeka (the Twelve) and, after the treason and death of Judas, even of hendeka (the Eleven). I find the Armenian Church open-minded, so again what is on the paper is not what happens in practice. It is easier to approach and have all kinds of conversations with our priests. Once I tried to do this with a Catholic one and I was unpleasantly surprised.

yes but in the case of the Armenian Church particularly it is more important to understand that what is on paper differs greatly to the practice. If the church is going to harass homosexuals then we as Armenians have not learned anything from our long history of harassment.

from time to time a young person of early twenties shows up in this forum charged with great nationalist or religious fervor and inspired or disappointed in whichever event in his or her life and tries to start threads like this one. they don't persecute minorities, they persecute their former persecutor, a little insight into history would help. There are Armenians living in those countries and they are not persecuted. Baltic states always had a lot of admiration and knowledge for Armenians and Armenia. With the same logic I can say that Armenians should stop hating everything Turkish.
