Sip, if you've seen the Minnesota Wild play hockey, you will probably know what I mean. *Yawn yawn*

Yes, Azat, I agree. Besides, there have been cases where the perps regretted it and repented. It's not like we're asking them to release them into society, but killing them is SO wrong. Killing for peace is like... ummmm... never mind. LOL Not to mention cases where the people who were sentenced to death were later proven to be innocent. But what good is it after they've killed the person? That's a crime. It's disgusting.

Didn't say World Cup necessarily. Those teams are pretty good. And yes, Mexico has some pretty good players. I donno man, Brazil just kill the game. I don't like it. It's boring. *yawn yawn* And yes, USA was pretty good too. But you said 17, that's why I mentioned only 17.

Did anyone read the news about the boy who had his twin brother (fetus) in him??! The boy is 7 years old. He's in Kazakhstan.
-
Yea, Turkey was pretty good too.

Ahhhh. The Canucks did it again. Tied the game 2-2 in the last minutes of the 3rd period and scored an OT goal. The Wild d-men aren't consistent. I guess the salts didn't awaken Manny Fernandez enough. LOL It was a good game, certainly less boring than the previous Wild vs. Canucks games. Some bad calls by refs again though. Canucks lead the series 3-1. Now the Sens have a tough fight with the Flyers, and the Flyers are the team I'd bet on if I were asked who I thought would win the Stanley cup. So far, the Sens are golfing. The Canucks have shown to be one of the best (if not THE best) team in Canada. They play some very exciting hockey, good offence, GREAT defence, great goaltending, pretty smart moves and very physical confrontation. Seems to be the perfect mixture to reach the finals, but then again, who knows? The Blues were leading the series 3-1 and the Canucks with a huge come-back won the series 4-3.

Okie dokie. Now I get it. And I agree.

If I had to chose between life sentence and death sentence, I would pick the death sentence ... why? Since you are treated better and get to live longer, especially in Cali. We definitely need a more efficient capital punishment system. You mean you'd choose the life sentence? Cos you said you'd choose the death sentence cos you live longer and are treated better. Am I missing something? Unless you're referring to being treated better after death, that's another issue. LOL
-
Yea... If only. But you guys have a madman in the white house who himself has signed the death warrant of 147 (I'm not sure about the number) men and women. So it definitely won't happen while he's there.

You seem to forget that the Argentinean national team would've beaten the Dutch national team had the ball not hit the post 3 times. Pure luck. I don't think Argentineans are THAT good, but they're not horrible either. Speaking of HORRIBLE, Brazil barely made it to World Cup '02, and all of a sudden, they won. Wow. I wonder how and why. At any rate, there are tons of teams out there that are better than Brazil. And that picture was just mean eh. By the way, Sip, they're all married. And they're not "sissies" as the pic seems to imply.

LOL Nairi. Yea, I like the Italian team, they're cool. Although if you ask me, I don't like them anymore cos they're not as good as they were in '94. I love the Argentinean national team. Gabriel Batistuta is a great player, so is Diego Simeone. But the Argentinean team always loses cos of bad luck - they ALWAYS hit the goal posts when shooting at the other team's goal. The German national team is almost dead. By the way, do you mean the national team, or just any Italian team in the Italian league? Here are my teams: 0. England's national team 1. Liverpool 2. Newcastle United 3. Bayern Munich 4. A.S. Roma And by the way, I absolutely hate Fabien Barthez (the French goalie). Too arrogant. Van der Saar and Seaman are cool. They're good goalies. I remember Van der Saar when he used to play with Ajax Amsterdam. Oh, and I really like the Dutch national team. The twin bros, what's their name... ummmmm... I don't remember. Edit: Oh ok, now I remember- Frank deBeour and his bro (don't remember his bro's name). And of course, Djorkaeff is cool too. And Oliver Bierhoff, the German dude. And the other Dutch defenceman, what's his name - Jap Stam? He's an excellent defenceman. And who else did I forget to mention?

OK, I thought about starting a soccer thread, cos the Lakers thread is getting the soccer talk. So maybe we can talk about soccer here. What is everyone's favourite team(s)?
-
Well I hate the Brazilian dude, what's his name - Roberto Carlos?! Yea, and I don't like Owen either. And that dude Ryan Giggs (is he with Man. Unt still?!) is nuts. The only British team I cheer for in the British league is Liverpool. Well, maybe Newcastle too. And if it's a Brit team vs. another team (i.e. Champions League, etc.), I'd sure cheer for the Brits. Other than that, I really liked the A.S. Roma games like 2 years ago, which is the last time I've seen any of their games, and I don't know if they're still good. Bayern Munchen is a good team. Dortmund - haven't heard about them lately. Man, Ajax Amsterdam was pretty good a coupla years ago, I remember how they lost vs. Juventus in the Champions League. But now I haven't been hearing about them lately. And Arsenal too. So where are the Lakers right now? I mean, what's their standing? Or is it the playoffs already?! They don't show the games here in Toronto unless you have cable or something, so I donno.
-
LOL Azat, that was funny. I had heard it before though.
-
Yes, Life is Beautiful is indeed a great movie. That brought me to tears. I don't know why I was so tearless with Ararat. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. Hmmmm... Well, I guess you have a point. Donno. But I still think Egoyan could've done better. I think Arsinée acted REALLY well in the movie.
-
Jesus Christ. Will you leave the fact that I'm not attracted to women out of this thread?! Thankyouverymuch. I would've posted the same thing if I were a girl/woman. Enough said. The link has been removed.

LOL Arpa, relax, it was just a joke. It doesn't express my views at all. I don't hate girls.

Domino, have you seen Schindler's List? If you haven't, rent it or download it off Kazaa or something, and watch it, and you will see what I mean.
-
Domino, When movies are judged for Oscars & other awards, they are judged on artistic quality and creativity, not for what they manage to say or not. Why would Ararat be an exception when being judged? It should be judged just like the rest of the movies out there - for what they are AND for what they are not. You are wrong about what made Ararat not get the hype it should've got (as you say). Everyone was waiting anxiously for the movie, and they had pretty high expectations of Egoyan. Before the movie was released, all I could hear were good reviews on the movie and good reports on Egoyan's talents - and I went into the movie theatre with those biased views, but came out disappointed. So you're wrong - it's not people's negativity that made the movie non-popular, it's the non-popularity and the absence of charisma from the movie that made people's views so negative. Movies are a way of carrying a message - and when judging a movie, they judge whether the movie did a good job at carrying the message - in what way was the message carried, and was it a good way: artistic, etc.? That's the bottom line of academy awards. It's not the theme of the movie they judge, but theway it tries to depict the message, and whether it managed to do it in a beautiful, artistic manner. Movies and cinema are art - they're not a simple way of just shooting a few scenes and doing something like a cheap report on CNN or something along those lines. Movies carry artistic beauty and challenge the mind and norms through means of the camera and the pen. Has Egoyan managed to do that? Party yes, partly no. The movie has lots of shortcomings, don't you think? It's not on the same level as Ridley Scott or Terrence Malick movies. It lacks a certain something, and I'm unable to put my finger on it..
-
OK, let's say it's a masterpiece. But say, here in Canada, why didn't it get any major hits? I mean, the movie opened here in Toronto at the Cumberland Theatre ONLY, and after one week, the theatre was empty. Canadian films surely have more popularity than just a week's time, right? And let's put aside the fact that Turks pressurized countries to ban the movie, but they didn't manage to do it here in Canada. So what explains the lack of popularity here in Canada - Egoyan himself being a Canadian. That should increase the number of people seeing the movie in theatres in Canada, especially if the media hype predicted that Ararat would win those awards, don't you think? Let us all be unbiased, just cos we're Armenians doesn't mean we have to brand everything Armenian as good, even if it's not. It wasn't a HORRIBLE movie, but it lacked certain artistic creativity. The cinematography was not all that good, the story-line was confusing and sometimes went in more than 1 direction off the topic of genocide, the acting was good, but it lacked spirits and enthusiasm. The movie did not really leave a big impression on me, even though I'm an Armenian and went into the theatre having a biased view of Egoyan's talent (in a good sense), and was expecting a great movie. It did not leave an impression like Gladiator did, or even a less popular movie like The Thin Red Line did. It lacked an element which would bring tears to people's eyes throughout the entire movie, not just at specific scenes. A movie, especially one on such a serious thing like the genocide, should be able to accomplish that. I agree that saying that it has NO artistic value is a bit too harsh, but it could've been much better. The soundtrack (and I repeat this again, because other soundtracks are not like this), is a repeat of one track over and over again, clichéd, and almost annoying with its repetitions (although the main theme is beautiful). I personally liked the historical parts, when Clarence Ussher sees the suffering of Armenians, etc. The picture was not all that good, the costumes not all that great. I don't know what it is, but the entire movie lacked a certain charisma. I don't know... Just my 2 cents.
