More than 10% growth of economy will be observed in Armenia in 2006-2007, Rodrigo de Rato, IMF Director-Manager told a press conference in Yerevan. In his words, IMF underestimated the pace of economic development in Armenia while forecasting GDP growth of 6-8%. Being without natural resources, Armenia reached high economic indicators which testifies about the effectiveness of its economy. "Compared to other regional countries Armenia is developing much faster," he stressed. In the opinion of IMF Director-Manager, growth of more than 10% and low level of inflation are indicators which can serve as basis for further stable growth of the Armenian economy. Rodrigo de Rato also noted that the reforms implemented in the country are directed to bringing the legislation of Armenia in compliance with EU standards which makes it possible for the country to compete in the world. GDP growth of 13.9% was reported in Armenia in 2005 against 10.1% in 2004.

You call that a lifestyle? Because of them Armenia is lagging behind. The intellectual community drives the country forward, not uneducated rabiz people, whos only meaning in life is to drive a mercedes 500. Can't you see, Armenia is regressing. The whole economy is in the hands of a few people, Dodi Gago, tsaxik rubo, lfik something and the rest. Armenian government does not create a friendly environment for small businesses, after all they make up most of the economy. I think when 50% of the population lives below poverty level and the people in charge drive expensive cars, go on weekend gambling trips to Dubai is called a failed government and a failed country

I can not agree with you more Anahid. I lived 15 years of my life in Armenia and visit often, I just returned three days ago and it is really sad that virtually almost all intellectual community has vanished. Just visit downtown Yerevan, all you see is the rabiz people, with their big sunglasses, dark pants, cell phones who think they rule the world lol Depsite all this, I made a goal to return there after I am done with my studies, it is not going to be easy, but I just can not imagine myself living in the states for the rest of my life

Arpa, your words sound very strong, if you feel so strong about Armenia, why did you come back from there, why won't you go live there? And as far as Kocharyan and Levon-Ter Petrossian, lets not get started, when 50% of the population lives below poverty level and Kocharyan and all his goons ride in G500's, I am sorry, but they are not our leaders

they are playing with fire by blackmailing countries like that Actually, I think with their desparate actions they are helping us

Azeri Press Agency, Azerbaijan June 1 2006 The England Turkish Dialog Committee lobby organization in Great Britain has drawn up a bill on the Belgium government recognizing the genocide it committed in Congo (APA). The bill was signed by British parliament members and has been included into the agenda for discussions. The bill is about the facts on massacre of millions of people in Congo, colonized by Belgium, by government forces in 1885-1908. The bill demands the Belgium government to apologize to Congo people and the international community for the genocide. This month, Belgian parliament is going to pass a law on sentencing persons refusing to recognize the so-called "Armenian genocide" to one-year in prison. The bill that the Turkish lobby submitted to British parliament is a response to this step taken by the Belgian parliament. The England Turkish Dialog Committee stated that the Belgian parliament should either refuse passing this law or recognize the genocide it perpetrated in Congo and apologize to the international committee for having massacred millions of people. The bill presented by the Turkish lobby was signed by Bottomley Peter, Conservative Party member, Lin Brown, Martin Katon, David Cheitor, AndrewDismor, David Drew, Cliv Grogan, Helen Johns , John McDonnel, Alan Mill from Labor Party and Andrew Georg and Poll Holms from Liberal-Democratic Party.

Uproar As French Parliament Shelves Vote On Armenian Genocide By Emma Charlton, Agence France Presse Angry scenes broke out in the French National Assembly on Thursday after lawmakers were forced to call off a vote on a bill that would make it a punishable offence to deny the Armenian genocide. Debate on the opposition bill -- which has sparked a diplomatic row between France and Turkey -- started late, and the time allocated for its discussion ran out before a vote could take place. Discussion of the controversial text will now be pushed back to October at the earliest, under the parliamentary calendar. Shouts filled the assembly as the bill's supporters accused members of the ruling Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) of stalling debate. Dozens of lawmakers ` angrily yelling "Vote! Vote!" -- had to be evacuated from the building after the leader of the assembly declared the session closed. Earlier Foreign Minister Douste-Blazy came out openly against the bill, which follows on from a 2001 French law officially recognizing the Turkish massacres of Armenians at the end of World War I as genocide. "If adopted, this text would be seen as an unfriendly gesture by the great majority of the Turkish people," he told lawmakers, warning its adoption would have "serious political consequences and weaken our position not only in Turkey but across the entire region." "Turkey is a leading economic and trade partner... We cannot accept this bill," Douste-Blazy said. The bill would make punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros (57,000 dollars) the crime of denying that Turkish troops committed genocide against the Armenians. The same punishment is on the statute books for people who deny that the Jewish Holocaust took place. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan -- backed by Turkish business leaders and unions -- appealed this month to France to block the contentious new bill, warning of the threat to bilateral relations. Ankara briefly recalled its ambassador from Paris for consultations this month, amid rising tensions over the bill. While the 2001 law was passed when the Socialist Party had a majority in the National Assembly, the new bill could only pass with support from ruling party deputies ` who had been given a free vote on the text. The bill has provoked divisions within both the UMP and the Socialist Party. Former Socialist minister Jack Lang said it would "undermine the efforts of those in Turkey who are trying to bring Ankara to recognize its history", and warned against a trend towards "criminalizing public expression". There has been much critical discussion recently in France about so-called "historical" laws which seek to authorize an official version of past events. In January President Jacques Chirac asked for a controversial law recognizing the "positive role" of colonialism to be struck off the statute books.

In my opinion Armenia needs to invest more in the IT and Technology sectors. Tourism is shaky. Building a new nuclear station is dangerous in that part of the world. Investing in the industrial sector is good, but with the blockade from east and west and Georgia charging up the ass, might not be feasible for foreign investors. Same way for agriculture, very expensive to export. Armenia was always famous for its human resource, so investing in IT I think might help grow Armenia's economy and maybe help us become the Silicon Valley in the region again -

So you are saying Russian troops were fighting for Armenians? Yes, Russians helped us in other ways same as Turkey helped Azerbaijan, but they did not provide us with manpower.
