Ludwig9
(and of course, the reason is that it's easier to pronounce for non-Armenians). I don't care if non-Armenians can pronounce Armenian names. Do you think the Chinese, Arabs, and other nationalites care if an Armenian changes their name to something easier. Do non-Armenians try to do the same for everyone else in the world?  Armenians have beautiful names which contain culture and history, something that should be shared with non-Armenians to educate people about us.  And yes, I know my name is a German name, but hey what can I do, I am only half Armenian. Maral
My feelings exactly....we dont' have to make our names easy so they can pronounce it better...who gives a darn if they can pronounce it or not! My name as simple as it may look took on many many different pronounciations...and I corrected it and corrected it and corrected it and they finally get the hang of it...let them struggle a bit and learn a few new things

Anoushik
My feelings exactly....we dont' have to make our names easy so they can pronounce it better...who gives a darn if they can pronounce it or not! style_images/master/snapback.png I do. I want people to pronounce my name correctly. But every time someone asks me my name I have to repeat and repeat and slowly pronounce and yell out loud my name until they get part of my name right. And even then they can't remember it. Sometimes I just tell them to call me by the last half of my name, which is Anoush. But even this is a big deal for them. I'm volunteering downtown for one of my classes and the supervisor there kept calling me Aroush even after I corrected her several times
nairi
I couldn't care less. Whenever new teachers see my name on paper and ask me how to pronounce it, I say: "Give it a shot. I don't know how to pronounce it either." Â My cousin once said to one of her teachers: "Just call me madam" I liked that one

Arpa
Is it because we know more Turkish folklore than Armenian? See below; http://armenian.name/index.php?a=term&t=5f5f5f60ab5e615b MosJan, please!! Can you have your "elves" cease to refer to Turkish to explain Armenian terms?!! Some may attribute the following anecdote to Nasreddin. The hell with him! (Please search my post about Nazar/Nazar-eddin) We have our own numskulls, whereby we need not to refer to others'. Kaj Nazar, Khikar... come to mind. Anecdote; Kaj Nazar's wife was about to give birth. She had an unusually large belly. All the neighborhood wise( read vhuks) women were called to assist. They were all busy monitoring the contractions. It was close to the end of day. It was getting dark. Artificial light was needed. They assigned Kaj Nazar as the light-man. They have him hold a lit candle. Number one baby comes out. Number two baby comes out. Number three baby comes out.... And, suddenly... darkness. Kaj Nazar had blown the candle out. A lot of "vlvluk" and confusion. They ask why Kaj Nazar had blown the candle out. His anaswer; "Luys@ tenogh@ durs e galis", bavakan e!" Bavakan= enough? Are we forgetting that 'bavakan" also means "satisfaction" as in "bavakanil"? Just as in the English "sate", to be "satiated/satisfied"? That is, when the stomach is full/satiated/satisfied? Why do we know more Turkish than we know Armenian? Don't ask me! Ask Ara B. who rejects our Ottomanism, yet promotes it day in and day out. You think we need "gurus" whose mother tongue is not Turkish?!!
