Anoushik
Tamar Arda Houri Nanor Aleec Pateel Sareen MARAL Sevan style_images/master/snapback.png Maral, I love your name. And that list of yours is pretty interesting. I didn't know that there were so many short Armenian girl names. If I had a daughter I'd like her to have a short Armenian name (and of course, the reason is that it's easier to pronounce for non-Armenians). I always thought that I'd like my daughter's name to be Sona but now I think that Maral is a very beautiful name too.

ExtraHye
I looooooooooove the name Evelina. It's great because it's Armenian, and the Americans could pronoince it. That will be my first daughters name, no matter what.
nairi
Biurakn, Ani, Arpi, Arpa, Biaina, Arax, Adrineh, Yeghisapet Really, you can pretty much name your daughter anything. Just go through Armenia's nature and history (rivers, lakes, cities, ancient countries) and you'll find plenty of inspiration. Sevan is a unisex name, although I've mostly heard it for girls. Welcome to HF HighMare and good luck with the kid!

It has nothing to do with Catalina by the way

Arpa
Akh Maral Jan!! Where did you get that meaning of Huri as wind. Below you will find an incorrect meaning, nevertheless the site is good one with the exception that many names are attributed to Turkish as in this case. At best Huri/Houri can be intrepreted as "hur/fire" (see Hurik). http://armenian.name/index.php?a=list&d=2&p=1&w1=H As mentioned above the explanation of Huri as "fairy" in the site as incorrect besides it being Turkish. "fairy" is from the Persian "peri" as "gins and peris". Houri means "nymph" i.e virgin. From the Websters': Houri, Persian "huri": 1 A nymph of the Moslem Paradise. In the Koran the houris are representedas most beautiful virgins endowed with unfading youth. 2. A seductively beautiful woman. (Remember the 72 virgins?) Once again, the attribution to Turkish origins in the above site is sometimes a little irritating, as you see the Websters', a most turkophile publication does not even mention it. Some of the names in the above site are hilarious. BTW. Zepyur/Zephyr which literally means "breeze" is more likely to be interpreted as (gentle)"wind". Let us play a game, aside from the fact that there are such beautiful girl's name in the URL some of them may be subject to much fun. My all time favorite is Yughaber :) Not really. PS. It took me a while to see the phonetics of Hye Mare. My first impression was that it stood for "zambik/matak" i.e. female(mother) horse.
