And most of the time, when I'm 'sharing' a connection, I'm using a server that acts as a gateway and use DHCP, or alternatively, a router. So I'm afraid any of my suggestions would be mere guesses. I'm sure you can find the right info on the web somewhere. try: DSL reports. They have a string user forum section where you would likely get the answer you need.
