Got Graduate School?

hi there folks! :P,

recently I have been checking out grad schools, not that Im graduating college anytime soon, but I was just interested in the programs offered in certain schools.

I called a few schools to ask about their Phd and Masters programs in psychology and social work, I was just dumbfounded by what some colleges are charging by the unit-- private colleges run from 12 thousand a unit... i hope im wrong but thats what i was told...

If grad school costs soo much for a psych major, what does it do to the budget of a bio major or someone looking intop law school or med school- other long term programs?

is there anyone out there in the forum who is either applying to grad school or thinkging abuot it or has a degree or who has been in grad school>?

if yes...

then I have just a few questions:

* does it really cost over $200 thousand? estimated

*what was your particualrfield concentrated on?

*how long did it take you?

i know this differs with every major or each different type of program- but Im just curious....

Angel, usually you get a TA, GA or scholarship at graduate schools, this is for the majority of cases, at least for some of the years on the PhD track. It is rare that someone pays for everything for all the time in grad school. You may have to work to pay for the last 1-2 years, depending how long your PhD takes. But usually you can find some research type of job around the campus that also has to do with your subject.

I have been in 3 grad schools but have never paid for them, don't remember how much would cost if i had to pay but certainly it was much less than $200K.

During my senior year in high school I applied about four different universities. The one I really wanted to go is a privet university. I was stunned when I found out how much it cost ~ its $16,000-18,000  :o . Due to my good GPA I was granted $12,000 scholarship for the first year. But still I chose not to go because I did not want to put that kind pressure on my parents and didn’t want to end up transferring someplace cheaper. Anyway right now the university I attend has just increased their tuition by 33%

I am thinking about rubbing a bank would you like to join me Angel?

Angel jan, glad to be helpful. One thing you should remember, keep your GPA as high as you can while you are doing bachelors. It will help you a lot to get financial assitance in grad school (as well as GRE or other test scores, recommendations letters, etc.), and of course to get in a good school.
